  1. My quiche is just so-so, so I want to try a different recipe. What is the best quiche recipe out there?
  2. Does anyone have/use this particular crock-pot: The Crock-Pot® Programmable Countdown Slow Cooker? (the one I just bought is model # SCVC609C-SS) I got it for a good price at Costco and it came with a free Little Dipper pot. The reviews on this model at Amazon are not very good and I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with it and could give me some feedback before I commit to keeping it. Or if you have a recommendation for a better slowcooker to get, please post. Thanks, Brenda
  3. I have a family of 7 (4 teenagers). Do I need a 6 or 7 quart? Do you prefer round or oval? Is it worth paying more for the enameled, or is plain cast iron better? Is any brand just as good as any other? Where's the cheapest place to get one? Thanks for your input. mom2jrcsc
  4. I find it terribly bland and boring. Tell me some good (and easy) ways to fix it.
  5. What makes a better pot roast, oven roasting or crock potting? The crock pot is certainly easier.
  6. But need something bigger to hold more yummy veggies. I used a bottom round roast which is a pretty tough cut of meat. I salt and peppered it. Browned it in the iron skillet on both sides in oil. Added 1/2 cup of red wine, covered, and put in a 300 degree oven. After cooking 1 hour, added potatoes, carrots, and onions. Cooked another 2-2.5 hours until tender. It came out fork tender and so good. None left.
  7. Anyone have a basic shortbread recipe that tastes like Walkers shortbread? There's so many different recipe versions out on the web, I don't know which to choose.
  8. and roasts them himself using a hot air popcorn popper. You can't get better flavor than that - it's to die for. And it's pretty cheap. Even after paying shipping, it comes out to only $6-7/lb. He's got me hooked - I never even liked coffee until a few months ago.
  9. What are your recommendations for a new one? I use it almost daily. I have been thinking I would splurge and get a Zojirushi when this one died, but are there others I should look at too?
  10. We bought ours in 1993 and it's starting to show signs of not being able to keep the temp down in the safe range (not sure what problem it's having). Do they get to the point where you just simply need to adjust the thermostat to keep the same temp? Should we go ahead and replace, or continue to monitor?
  11. Does it work for mosquitoes? We're in GA and have TERRIBLE mosquitoes - open the door and the house is full of them. I'm tired of always smelling like bug spray. Can anyone vouch for this product, or is there another natural one that ACTUALLY works?
  12. Can't roast or grill it - it's already diced and cooked. It looks stewed (kind of soupy). If I mash and put it in tomato sauce, will the seeds disappear so the family won't see them?
  13. My mom gave me 3 packages of frozen eggplant, but my family won't touch the stuff. If I puree it and make something out of it, will they be able to tell? What could I put it in or make out of pureed eggplant?
  14. Except that my DH (the pickiest one in the house) doesn't like the taste of the popcorn. Everyone else loves it.
  15. I hate deep frying because of the mess, plus the added fat. Anybody have a method or recipe for homemade Oven Fried Onion Rings?
  16. I've been grinding popcorn in my Nutrimill - works fine. However, dh doesn't like the taste. So, I got a hold of some dried yellow corn (the big kernels) to try. Can my mill handle this? Will I break the mill if I try it? Has anybody been successful at grinding yellow corn in the Nutrimill? If not, what do I use to grind it?
