  1. So, I accidentally posted this on the wrong board...retyping it here...not smart enough to figure out how to move it!!

Just a thought. I was out buying heart medicine for my old lady beagle yesterday, and had an idea.  I asked our veterinarian if we could “pre-pay” for our next service.  She has been our vet forever, and had just started her own practice a couple of weeks before the shut down. She seemed thrilled. Her business is really hurting.

I’m also way too much of a germaphobe to eat takeout right now, but we have begun to call local restaurants and purchase gift cards over the phone. I heard this idea on a podcast, and thought it was a great suggestion to help local restaurants through this time.

I do know that these suggestions are not possible for everyone, and that our contribution is just a drop in the bucket. However, I just wanted to pass along the ideas in case anyone else is in the position to do the same.

I’m off to “pre-pay” for a cut and color.  This one hurts. I really need a cut and color now.  I’m thinking of covering the mirrors in my house...

I hear you. I am keeping my fingers crossed but preparing that my kid will be studying all summer because they will delay those exams until August. I really would hate losing the summer, but I think that’s another possibility.

This option scares me the most.  My son works a summer internship and was planning on taking a dual enrollment night class.  Can’t imagine how to continue to prep for four APs in the midst of all that...so. Much. Stress.  Sigh.

Remember that everyone will be in the same boat for this. Try not to panic. There will be make up tests I’m sure. And every student taking the APs will have had disruptions bc of this .  It will be a different playing field with regard to the SAT2s, as well, I imagine.

I am trying to remember and live the truth that the resilience our driven kids can learn through this is    huge.

But ((hugs)) to you and your child. None of this is easy. At all.

Thank you very much for this reassurance. I’ll try to limit myself to one anxiety attack a day until this passes 😊.  I so hate the dependence we all have on the College Board in general, but I do understand that this is out of their control.

I’ll just have to put on my big girl pants and get used to the fact that fall of senior year will be insane!

  4. I waited a while to answer this question, hoping that someone with experience with the biology test would chime in, but I hate to leave your query unanswered. My son has taken the SAT Math II and the Physics exam, and he found the College Board study guides with released tests most helpful, followed by Baron’s guide and The Princeton Review books.

I like Barons for AP test prep, but I’m not as familiar with the subject tests.  However, I have seen many students panic after a Baron’s practice test.  The ones with which I am familiar are a bit harder than the actual exams.  I always try to warn my own students to keep them from panicking.  Unfortunately, I am not at all familiar with biology testing in general.

You might also check into AlbertIO.  We always get personal subscriptions for AP test prep, but they may have SATII prep materials as well.  I’m off to check...

  5. Alisoncooks,

Thank you so much for sharing.  Your picture brings tears to my eyes.  Please welcome your daughter to the family for me!  What a beautiful sight.  Praise the Lord!!!

My uncle baptized me in a lake when I was 12.  It’s one of my most cherished memories, and you just brought it back to me.

May your daughter always walk with the Lord.

  6. I am sitting by the fire right now.  I should be in church.  My son was asked to help serve communion this week, and he had to tell the church that we would not be there for a while.

I attend a Protestant Church of about 300 members in a metropolitan area.  Our church cancelled all small group activities, such as Sunday school classes, yet decided to meet as normal for our large worship service.??

I have been in touch with a couple of my elderly friends who have decided to stay home to protect their own health. I am so happy that they have made a wise decision about this, but I am worried for those who will choose to go as long as the doors remain open.

All this to say...my heart hurts this morning. I almost feel as if my faith is being tested...we are trying to prove who is the stronger Christian...who won’t ‘neglect assembly’.  I know that the Lord is with me right now, in this room, and yet I feel such guilt!

Hugs to all who are struggling with this.  May the peace of the Lord be with us all.

  7. I realized that we didn’t have one this weekend.  We live in a very urban area, and there were no thermometers to be found.  My wonderful mother is now sending one that she easily found in her teenie-tiny small Texas town drugstore.  Makes me appreciate both mothers and the convenience of small towns.

  8. So, I’m using this time to revisit the music of the 1980’s and 90’s and update my Spotify playlist.  However, my renewed education has given me an all new appreciation for Mr. Mister’s  “Kyrie”.  I hope I spelled that correctly!!

Does anyone else want to add an oldie-but-goodie to my list?  I’m walking far down memory lane at the moment...

... because I'm seeing that in WWS2 and WWS3 the introductory material mentions that the instructor ought to have worked through the program.  Are y'all actually doing this?

    Just wondering.  🙂

I have read all three and highlighted them cover to cover.  Does that count?  I’ve taught several groups of kids through the first two books.  I have learned a TON just reading them!  I imagine if I actually worked through them, I could rule the world 🤗!

  10. So far, there is no plan.  My son was supposed to take it tomorrow, and our schools closed today. I sat on hold with the College Board and got a useless message that gave me no information at all about a possible plan B.  We tried to get him registered in the county next door, but they wouldn’t let us.  So very frustrating.  Their other dates conflict with AP exam week and/or SAT II subject test exam dates.  It’s a mess.

There is a diagnosed case in my friend's daughter's school in Fairfax County, VA. Last I heard, the school is still open.

That explains it.  Fairfax Co. schools came to a screeching halt this morning at midnight.  They had intended to use Monday as a student holiday while the administration figured out how to go forward. Looks like activities won’t resume for a month, but there is no word on when schools will reopen.  SAT was cancelled for tomorrow 😞.

  12. Count me as one who found it funny, and I am one of those conservative Christians they are parodying.  If the shoe fits...my son was never allowed to watch Sponge Bob, but I can honestly say that we missed the instructions about making crafts from toilet paper rolls!

Thanks for the link.  I sent it to a couple of friends.  I needed a laugh.

Editing to add that I just proved my point about being sheltered!  I mentioned Sponge Bob instead of The Simpson’s...  I truly can’t tell the difference!

  13. I voted for the second, but I don’t think you could go wrong with either.  They are both beautiful.

I agree with everyone above about darker finishes being nightmares to live with.  We fell in love with the beautiful dark hardwood floors a year ago when we bought our house.  My mother warned me that we would hate them.  Mothers are always right.  I absolutely hate taking care of these floors!  I have a bit of OCD, and can’t stand it if things are not pretty and clean. Please be smart and get the middle shade.  You don’t want too light or too dark...trust me.  Think of this as a public service announcement 🤣

Point taken. You are right. I apologize.

Thank you.  You certainly don’t owe me an apology, but I am impressed that you can step back and think about it.

I think we are all on edge.

Have you read the hatefulness that Rush has said about his fellow human beings over the years? It is truly vile. I don't mean political discourse. That's par for the course. I am talking about the kind of stuff that makes you sick to your stomach, as you describe. I wouldn't wish harm on anyone. But, it has happened, and as I said, karma.

I won’t comment on Rush.  He owns his own opinions.

Mimicking behavior of which you disapprove doesn’t make your behavior justified.

Kindness is always the right answer.  Always.

    Samesies.

ETA: Ok, I will be a d*ck and say that Rush will know the meaning of the word lethal soon enough. Karma, dude.

I am so sad to see this level of discourse on this forum.  I have no idea what he said or didn’t say, but I don’t find it acceptable to wish ill on anyone.  Public figures are people.  I can’t wrap my head around this level of hatefulness.  I sincerely hope that you just had a moment of passion, and don’t wish harm to anyone. I hope we all strive to be the good and find the good in people in stressful times.

I have no idea how to word this post so that it doesn’t sound terribly preachy. So be it.  Reading your words made me sick at my stomach.
