  1. Our last house had all hardwoods, dark too... We got area rugs and it really helped. If you want the hardwoods to stay nice under neath, get rug pads like from home depot/lowes. I didn't in my last house and there was some staining when we moved the rugs. This house, I got rugs for the hardwoods with pads, I move them every couple of months, sweep good and then put it all back down.

  2. It's been more of a 4-day Mother's Day for me (pretty much because my husband forgot Mother's Day all together several years ago and since we've always been busy and too busy to do more then a meal out)...so I went to a late movie Thursday night, then to a billard hall for a late night date. Afterwards, we sneaked in like teenagers since our kids were sleeping, it was fun. Friday and Saturday were really busy for him at work, so he said take both days and do whatever I want. So we went to B&N and bought books (it's my weakness, I feel you can never have tooo many books) and enjoyed some relaxing days at home. Saturday afternoon the kids treated me to a buffet which is a favorite of mine because I can get an all veggie plate. Today, we had breakfast together, my daughter drew a wismical drawing on our whiteboard and we all went out shopping for rugs and lamps. It was a really relaxed couple of days. It totally made up for the past several.

  3. Used Kenmore, got it as a set with our washer, It works great! Looks newish even though used, a few dints but nothing major plus I saved over 755 going this route and the appliance used store we purchased from has a 1 year warrenty, that if it breaks they will come out and fix for free or replace with similar machine. So far we've never had to use it and our dryers last for about 3-6 years sometimes longer...

  4. 11-13 years old. After a child has been introduced to advance concepts of multiplication/division/fractions/decimals/percents. I just can't see doing 3 years of middle school math. I have always been of the mine, keep advancing in Math no matter what until we up to Cal.

So I combined 5/6 grade concepts and then started pre-algebra. It took a few months to pick a pre-alg program that my kids wanted to stick with and worked for everyone. We tried saxon, BJU, and Keys to..., & TT. They choose Teaching Textbooks. I do plan on supplementing if they stick with it through high school especially in Geometry & Algbra 2.

  5. My youngest has never slept well. As a toddler we've adjusted him to stay up very late like 10pm-11pm and then he goes to his bed, 80% of the time he'll stay asleep till 8am. But every 3-6 months he has a shift. He latest is he doesn't want to sleep alone and he talks a hour in bed before he will fall asleep. It's hard on everyone but currently he rotates between his brother and sister and us. He only has a nap some day for less then 1 hour. He just doesn't need sleep. He has had sensory and eating issues which he's gotten over or we adjusted for. I hope one day he'll sleep like my older kids 8-12 hours.

  6. Pretty good but long and not done yet. We do take a few breaks for lunch, quiet time (30-1hr so my youngest can nap), folded laundry/put it away, & we just had a cookie break but they still have 1 subject left each. But even though it was long, it's been peaceful and an easy day all in all. Even my tot likes the relaxed way of having breaks in-between subjects. We'll see how their work looks when I check it this evening.

I hope others are off to a good start...

  7. Wish I was starting but I have decided to wait until after New Years. We have a family thing with my DH side and we are traveling out of state for my side for a few days so I hate to start dieting and exercising when I know I can't stick with it. I've been on maintaining my wt. since Halloween. I really want to get losing again.

  8. Already saw it with DH. We decided to see it without our older kids. It was great, different then the book. Some scary scenes and I am glad we didn't take my older two. My daughter (11) doesn't like really scary stuff but it ok watching sci-fi/fantasy during the day, she can even have nightmares. My son is the same even at (12) but not as sensitive.

  9. I like going after Christmas (not super early) especially bookstores like B&N. They have tables of 50-90% off of books, tid bits, and children's stuff on sale each year around the area I live even on lego kits. Since we have a membership I can get close to 75%+ on most things on sale so I really stock up especially for my DH side of the family we have to give to great nieces/nephews.

I like to going to craft stores too especially when items are 75%+ off. I am not into mall shopping. But this year I may go to an electronic discount store to get a tablet for my oldest. His sister own one this past summer from the lib. & my youngest uses my old kindle for starfall and such occasionally. So that leaves my oldest with nothing and it would be nice if they could all play at the same time, even for 30 mins it's a nice break and lots of educational/review apps.

I skipped Black Friday ( I did go out on Thanksgiving just to be with my DH and talk since stores were open but we brought nothing) and probably will cont. The sales were not that great in my area and I am not a huge online shopper I still like to see things in person.

  10. I buy stuff used at consignment sales. I use wipes like baby wipes and just wipe down each item. I've done this for everything from books, to legos, to game parts. I then take a rag and wipe of any left over juice/liquid. If something is sticky I might scrub harder with an old toothbrush and soap. I take everything part and let it dry. I've never had any issues with germs or anything like that. I have found a few cookie crumbs but only because I unscrewed the screws to a few toys. It's extreme but my DH is allergic to animal hair so I have to be careful and make sure nothing is on the toys.
