I just wanted to say that I enjoyed this thread and I will be looking into some of these.:)

That's a good question. The reason is that I should have waited and done SL K with my daughter this year or even the following year. Instead, I was using it as a preschool program, and that was a huge mistake. I might very well return to SL when my daughter would be ready for the next level (Sonlight 1? maybe in 2nd grade?). But for now, I've already done what I could in the program with a 4/young 5 year old and it just did not work out for her. The LA was fine, but it was many of the other parts for which she was not entirely ready.
HTH! :)
Thanks for replying. Yes, I have seen several times that Sonlight K ahould be used for 1st grade and Sonlight p4/5 should be used for Kindergarten. I think that I am going to use HOD until first grade and then swith to Sonlight K. Good luck!!

I really need to find a good all-in-one curriculum (LA, Reading, History, Science) that's open-and-go because I do not / will not have time for much planning once this baby arrives. :) Any suggestions? My daughter is finishing Sonlight K and I do not want to do Sonlight again. I would be willing to do a whole other K curriculum that she and her preschool-brother can do together, but I would need to supplement reading for her b/c she placed into Sonlight's 2nd Advanced reading - any suggestions on how to work that?... I was going to do Galloping the Globe but it just looks like too much work to plan it and I just don't have the time. :( I've thought about Heart of Dakota, My Father's World, simply buying from Abeka or Bob Jones, etc. But please help!!!!
I was just curious about why you do not want to use Sonlight again? I was thinking about using HOD until my dd is 6 and then using Sonlight K for 1st grade. I am just collecting opinions about Sonlight.

for a 7th grader. I do not want anything to formal. She loves to draw and paint. I am looking for something maybe for a beginner. I have been looking at Artistic Pursuits for Junior High. Has anyone used this? Could it be used for someone that has not had much art experience?

I think the principal made the right decision. It's too bad the mother sees this as the school's problem and not a parenting issue.
This large, adult-looking male is not a behavior problem (so he doesn't belong in an alternative school - those places are terrible.) He isn't failing because he is trying and not making it. He is failing because he just isn't doing his work, studying, etc. (as far as we know according to the article.)
If his mother thinks there is a problem, she should push the school to test him for learning disabilities. If there are LDs, then the school has legal responsibility. If there isn't, the old saying fits - you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.
Very well said!!

I use a utensil caddy that I bought from Pampered Chef a long time ago for about $15. I use it for everything markers, scissors, crayons, colored pencils, gluesticks etc... they each have thier own compartment.

My dd12 just mastered the books of the bible in 2 weeks using this song. My 3 year old can also recite up to 1 and 2 chronicles. Good Luck!

What was your favorite book from Core 5?
Tales of a Korean Grandmother was one of our favorite books this year!! Torches of Joy is good, but it is really looong! We have been reading it since January. We did not do the bible (RGAA), it seemed too time consuming! We follow the bible reading (Core 5) and do our own bible study. We do love the EHE though.

It depends on how much grammar she has had previously. I might start her at R&S 5. Rod and Staff is incredibly rigorous and requires more than a lot of other programs. I have heard that the 8th grade level is more like high school or college.
Thank you, I have heard that also. I think that I will look into 5 or 6 first.:)

if we have never used R&S English before?? She will be in 7th grade in the fall and I am wondering if I should start with 6 or 7?
-
I just purchased R&S preschool books and they are great, but I will not be using them until next year when my dd is 4. She will not get the full benefits until then. I love Kumon books. I love BFIIAR. We are pretty much just reading the BFIAR books right now. We have done a few lapbooks with the books and I get all of my ideas from homeschoolshare.

We have just started with Sonlight this year and we are doing Core 5. We are loving it! I am just wondering, how many of you have started with Sonlight and stuck with it for many years? Do you use the LA or the Science?
-
I will definately be purchasing the TM!:001_smile:

I am going to purchase this for my dd next year. For those who have used this, should I purchase the teachers guide also?

Every day is full of little blessings, taking the time to recognize those blessings is a challange! I just love the name!
for those who want something visual but simpler than workboxes, have you seen this?
