  1. It seems that the author says that you can not snack on this plan (page 179). If you have a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast do you then need to really fill up on fruit and other stuff to make it to lunch?

No snacks...wow - it seems like it would be so tough to follow this plan!

Also may I ask if you lost weight on this plan, have you kept it off? Did you do so by following the Maintenance Plan?

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

  2. Thanks for all the feedback. After advice here I called DOT for our state and found that I can write a letter which will be anonymous. They can then test her and make a decision based on her test.

Also, tomorrow we have an appt with the neuro. and I am going to ask her opinion. In the past she has said that mil can drive "so long as she can find her way around town" (!!!). I am going to ask her to put it in writing which I have to imagine she would absolutely refuse to do.

So I am trying two approaches to try to ensure that she is safe (and the rest of society is as well!)

Bah I hate being the bad guy! Dh is (mostly) on board with me. I just told him here is what I plan to do.

    Thanks again.

  3. My mil is driving ...really poorly. She has dents and scrapes all over the front of her car. Her transmission is leaking (not sure if it is from somesort of impact) and the family's helper says she "drives about 80-90 miles per hour".

My dh doesn't want to stop her from driving. It really concerns me. Her car is not driveable and now they are considering buying her a new one.

How do I have this conversation that she must not drive, and not get a new car without upsetting basically everyone?

    Very, very stressful.

  4. a person's spine. My dear stepfather had a hip replacement last Monday and he has an open (but small) bed sore. My mom plans on calling the hospital tomorrow but is wondering if there is something she can do in the meantime.

He really likes to sleep on his back since his hip replacement.

I can't tell you how much I would love some help on this since she is so overwhelmed at the moment.

    Thanks

  5. DD's theatre has a specific hierarchy to determine who gets the most desirable roles. Obviously skill plays a part, but how many previous productions they've been involved with; siblings (all about funding), etc. I don't remember it, but DD was disappointed that she didn't get the coveted "Sharpay" role in HSM. SHe was on the cusp, but it was her first play with that theatre. Next time she might, but there has to be some method of determining who gets roles.

Let DS enjoy his experience without feeling your annoyance at his lack of lines. If he loves theatre, it will come. If not, kudos for him trying drama. Many are afraid of public speaking and he's already beyond that! That is something to celebrate :)

I was not annoyed in front of ds. Just said "You're going to learn so much no matter what". I think what you wrote about public speaking is right on for him. He is shy and this will really help him loosen up.

    Thanks everyone. Hissy fit averted.

  6. I know my novice child won't be getting the lead in the play. On the other hand why would the another child in the group get a plum role 3 productions in a row? My son was not even asked to read for a lead roll.

The real drag is that I have to drive an hour round trip 2x a day for 3 weeks! My mom sponsored the $350 price tag of this theater camp.

Would you complain? Am I being a stage mom?

  7. I am interested in know how many calories I need to lose weight. I would like to lose 25 pounds and I am pretty tall (5'9"). I walk/hike for most days of the week for about 30-60 minutes.

Would someone just tell me what to do?!?

I just tried about a week of the no s diet and gained 2 pounds! I think I just need to count calories afterall.

    Thanks for any feedback.

  8. I read that headline on MSN the other day. I did not even read the article. I check later and it had been moved or taken off. However, the idea was so thought-provoking to me. I have really been looking at myself and my habits and making some ideas about changing a few things.

For one, it would bug me if my dh spent as much time on the internet as I sometimes do - so I have been looking at that habit with the idea of cutting back.

I also think that he might like some changes around the house that I could initiate and maintain (calling Flylady :)).

Have you ever made some changes in the spirit of being a better spouse that you would care to share to inspire the rest of us?

  9. Husband said the RAV has a lift gate in the back and the CRV has swing gate in the back, that is what he prefers. Myself, I can't even tell you what they look like. Guys and cars....

I have a '08 and the trunk goes up. I really like it. Turns on a dime, parks easily. I only have one complaint - the little table between the two front seats. I think it was a really poor use of space. I am always losing stuff under it. Other than that - I think it is the perfect car!:)

I think it is a little noisier than my former car which was a Crysler T&C.

My SIL has a RAV and loves it.

Go test both of them and then sleep on it.

Good luck - I think you have two good choices.
