We began with LFCA way back when and did ok but dd and I are not good with the methodology that is memorize now, learn to use it later, KWIM?
We agonized 3/4 of the way through LFCB and then found Galore Park. Thank Heavens for these boards!! We are doing LP1 this year for 6th and really clicking with it for the first time. It is hard work for her, she can be mentally lazy, but she is really learning to work with, read and translate well for the first time. With LFC (and I have not seen the newer version mind you) she could chant endings and vocabulary like the dickens but there was so little actually using them in context that she never got it. I was actually quite taken aback at how little she understood Latin after almost 2 years.
Prima Latina with my little one was the same situation as LFC, although we did enjoy memorizing the prayers. I am now doing Lively Latin with her which fits into our LCC style beautifully. She is too young for Galore Park.

We are loving Lively Latin for my 7 year old and later on perhaps you could check out Galore Park's Latin Prep. My 11 year old and I really have fun with it.

I love it. We switched from Rod and Staff which we did from 1st-5th. I wish we had found it sooner, my eldest would have had a much better experience.
It is rigorous and thorough and a little bit of everything in each lesson for review and mastery and a new topic. For us, that is what finally worked for my dd.

I have only seen some of the TWSS but have had no problems with the lessons. My daughter's writing, which used to be an insane battle is no longer. Her writing and attitude has improved by leaps and bounds. I heartily recommend them. Esp. the ones by Lori Verstegen.

If you do decide to do so, the odds are huge that you will never see that money again, even if the relative is close to you and even when they are on their feet financially and even if you have it in writing that they will pay you back.
If you can take the hit and you want to help, go ahead, but don't expect to get paid back.

After our 2nd, dh had a vasectomy and THEN we became convicted the other way, that we should have let God decide for us. Sadly, we have had neither insurance or funds for a reversal since then and biologically my time is running out. I get teary these days as my youngest is 7 and growing so fast and I think, wow, I only have 6 years left with hsing my oldest and see....now i am crying again. Oh well.
-
Its the age, really. Get sticky hugs from your little one and cry into his hair while you read those picture books to him. Thats what I do when I get hurt by the older one. Her I assign penmanship practice in her room.

We use them regardless of what history curriculum we are using. I actually don't care for her written materials but have listened to the cds with SOTW and now with MOH. I have been known to just pop them in when we are knitting and on car trips too. Her style is delightful. I WOULD listen to the samples on the website first, there are some people who find her incredible annoying. Unfathomable. :D

They were a delight.

We school year round too and after reading the laws I came up with this that I write in our Letter Of Intent...
- Our home school program will meet or exceed the standards of structured learning time as defined in 603 CMR 27.02.
I refuse to agree or submit anything saying we will school the 180 days Ma requires because that is for the PS. I also don't want to be snotty and say that almost every day 365 we are doing something because it isn't any of their business KWIM?
Hope that helps

We have read them aloud and dd 7 has read them alone repeatedly. They are charming.

It's awful out there for the self employed.

The Waltons seasons one and two only. (after that there is adultery and such)
The African Queen is a huge favorite.
We went through the entire Stargate SG1 series, which I only has to edit three times. It is one of our very favorite things to watch.

Masterpiece Theater's Pollyanna

I can't help it, anything LOTR makes me smile. Not that that little cutie you have now isn't adorable mind you, it is just I think karenciavo post and the wisdom of the ages of Galadrial just sort of melds with it.

Very nice.
You will not be disappointed with Van Loon. I found that a local university library has a copy of his book about ships that sailed the 7 seas. I read just the introduction to my boys, who are fiends about Horatio Hornblower and everything to do with the British navy and the Napoleonic wars -- and then I had to return the book! He was quite the truth-teller, a straight shooter.
Ok, I'll just start getting up at 3am instead of 4 and get right to work on that study guide!!! Another project is just what I need....:D
Actually, let's just get Plaid Dad to write it. Yeah, that's it!
What is the title of the book about the ships? I am not so much a Horatio Hornblower fan but I have been reading the Bernard Cornwell books about the Napoleonic wars (and drooling over the dvd versions with Sean Bean). We have a snow day so the kids will be outside all day and I can read to my hearts content!! Hurrah!

I do so love the prose, parts of Churchill just beg to be read aloud. It is as pleasing to the tongue as a good red wine. When reading with the kids I do have a stack of reference material so we can ask and answer those types of questions that come up. I wish I could write a guide but as much as I am a history addict and an organizing fiend, I am under-qualified for sure to do so.
I just bought a copy of Van Loon at a bookstore that was going out of business, I can't wait. I also was able to snag Churchill's 6 volume WWII set.
He is such a joy to read and a true product of his times.
Hey, I know, YOU write one and I will be your first customer!

Is there such a thing as a study guide for this set? I own it and love it but thought something along the lines of a study guide would be helpful when I read it with my dd.
TIA

It is called "Talk to the Hand" subtitled " The Utter Bloody Rudeness of the World Today, or Six Good Reasons to Stay Home and Bolt the Door"
It is a delight.:D

I can't stand that stuff, it hurts. Will pray all goes well for you and yours. :)

I agree with Cadam. I think it stems from the leadership. My church is about 350 people, with families from only 1 child to having 7. Children are viewed as a blessing and reward from God, and they're a responsibility, as well.
My point isn't to brag about my church, so much as point out that the church body should be helping and supporting each other, even in extremely hard times. Family size should make no difference as that's completely between the couple and God.
We do things in much the same manner. We have families with 6 little ones and families with 1 little one. Always babies are a gift and always the families are assisted. The little small needs are so constantly filled by and for each other in a way that blesses both the party in need and the person helping out. Our Pastor promotes unity as a church body and having servant's hearts and we are blessed to have most of the church body truly love each other. The church body is supposed to reflect our relationship with Jesus. I am sorry that you are having struggles in yours.
