My dh and I met when we were young (19) but didn't marry until we had both graduated from college. We are one of those sickeningly rare couples that don't fuss or argue. He is a joy to be around every moment of every day.
I married up, without a doubt. :D

:seeya:there!!
And welcome to the .

When I first read your post my first thought was, "this kids probably not into the arts...". I love the whole great books idea too but that is not my dd's natural bent. She is math and science all the way. So, while I do want her to be well read and familiar with great books, it's sort of a waste of her time to sit around debating the merits of The Great Gatsby when she would rather be pouring over science journals and turning my kitchen into a lab.:001_smile:
My degree is in biochemistry so I completely understand.... I love to read but have no desire to analyze every piece of literature I come across. Yes, there is merit to being able to do a character analysis, but that isn't my focus on learning for my dd (our son, OTOH is the polar opposite...) IMHO, math and science need to be textbooky. That's what my dd wants to major in and it is what's going to give her a firm foundation to prepare her well for college.
Please, no judgement here.:D I know some families use living books to teach science, etc. I just don't think the textbook approach is all that bad, and may even be preferrable depending on your dc.
Maybe a textbook based curriculum would be just the thing to get him excited about school again.

We bought an Igloo backpack at Target for $27. Target has exclusive rights to sell them. I know because I called to get a new liner replacement and the Igloo company told me they are ONLY available at Target.
We use the heck out of it. I found it isn't only good for Disney, but it is great for all those "let's meet at the park or museum" days as well. DH takes it golfing for his cold drinks too.
For places like Disney, it has saved us thousands.

Thanks for this!! Love, love the backpack cooler and will be picking one up today from our Target. :001_smile:

That is awesome.

What about having your pastor or youth pastor sign along with you? I suppose they want some kind of outside verification for behavior. And I don't think it's a diss against homeschooling, as much as a protection for parents who know the school and have trusted their kids to go to the dance. I know, a pain, but it may help to try to find out what the school is really after.
Best wishes,
Lisa
:iagree: Awesome idea to have your pastor sign the form. Let me know what the outcome is. This is fascinating to me.:D
ETA: Read through the entire post... so glad he can go to the dance!!

I voted Dive w/ BJU...
I'll be watching this thread as I am having the same debate on what to use with my dd next year. I haven't used either one yet but have noticed through wading through a bunch of old threads that it seems like BJU is thought to go a little more in depth than Apologia.

My two dc are eating soup for dinner tonight. :001_smile:
And I've never met a soup I didn't like. :D

I've got nothing to offer other than a :grouphug:.
I hate those kinds of dreams...

Depends on how hot it is in your house...
If it's hot, it mildews quicker.:D

I think your son's "twin" is living with me. :D

I am missing four adult teeth as well... we didn't have fancy implants (back in the dark ages :D) so I had bridge work put in. It's pretty common and easy enough to fix these days with orthodontics and implants..

Wow... interesting poll. No one has selected "8" yet.
I just have my two.:001_smile:

It's not wacky at all...
I'm a Christian and it was one of my favorites growing up. My dd (11yr old) loves it as well. It's a beautiful story written about friendship and family and the ties that bind us all together... she'll love it!!

I believe that there is exactly one correct worldview - that of God's. QUOTE]

I love the name Sadie!!:001_smile:

I am not familiar with the programs you mentioned, but I really like HWOT cursive. I haven't used any of their handwriting before cursive. Their style is simple, up and down, and the program progresses nice and slowly. Handwriting is definitely not my son's favorite subject, but he doesn't mind HWOT.
:iagree:We love Hand Writing Without Tears here too!!

I live in a major metropolitan city and run on the street. I've nicknamed all stop signs and red lights "dessert". If I can just make it to the next light or sign I get to stop for a few seconds and enjoy "dessert" before I cross the street.
And.
Keep.
Running.

Praying for you and your girl this evening... just thought I'd bump you up and ask for an update too.:D

Love, love, love Ben and Jerry's New York Super Fudge Chunk.
You should try it.
It will change your life.:D

It's an APB.

I voted "other" because we just used the free version where you can only access a few of the videos. We forget that it's there as a resource so I'm not sure that I would ever purchase a subscription. On the occasion that my dc have seen them, they really enjoyed it, and loved taking the quizzes afterwards.

Just thought I'd pop in and give you a virtual :grouphug:. My dh is currently on an extended vacation near your son. (For a year, sigh.) I understand what it's like to not have your best friend with you... I'm sorry. Wishing your dh safe travels and that the time passes by quickly for you.
Which version/translation of the Bible do you use and why?

I love the NIV. I've read the bible through with other translations but the NIV is what I seem to pick up time and time again.
