  1. He sounds a lot like my 3 1/2 year old son. I don't remember the older two children being like this. They were much more mellow than this kid. He's a constant ball of energy. He jumps on things. Screams. Meltdown. Breaks toys. Talks constantly. More energy than 3 other kids put together. Lucky for him, he's also insanely cute and loving.

     

    I find I have to keep him entertained more than I did with the older two. He can sit for HOURS with play dough and be content. This keeps him out of mischief. I can also set him up in the kitchen sink with some plastic cups and spoons with the same result. When left to his own devices, their is destruction and mayhem.

     

    It seems to me that kids like this require us to stay on top of them at all times. Not the easiest thing to do when you have other children and homeschooling to deal with, but somewhat necessary for everyone's sanity.

  2. I would check into Medicaid & WIC. I thought PG women were automatically covered. I'd call all local social services agency.

     

    If your husband is unemployed and you have no health insurance you should qualify for Medicaid for pregnant women.

     

    My husband got laid off when I was 3 months pregnant with our first child and I had to go that route. I was treated very well and had a good selection of doctors to choose from. In fact, I was able to use the same doctor I had selected before becoming pregnant.

  3. I just wondered because oatmeal sure doesn't give me energy into the afternoon. It makes me feel sluggish about 5 mins after I eat it (if that was I am eating) and hungry 20mins later. I couldn't imagine anyone eating it for breakfast and the energy lasting long enough that they wouldn't notice they hadn't had lunch yet!

    I have that reaction to pancakes. While I love the taste, especially blueberry pancakes, I get full quickly, feel tired and sluggish, and I'm hungry again in 20 minutes. I have to have eggs and sausage with my pancakes.

     

    But "they" say that oatmeal is supposed to be fulling, nutritious, and sticks with you.

  4. I've found IRL that most homeschoolers don't talk about homeschooling?!?!?

     

    I noticed this with the locals I met. It's about 5 or so families that started getting together, and they NEVER talked about homeschooling. After spending a little more time with them, I wondered if they even were homeschooling. Of that crowd, I was the most rigorous. I've actually decided that they weren't a good fit for us, for many reasons.

     

    The other family that I know is possibly more rigorous, or at the least, her children are more motivated, cooperative, or productive than mine. :glare:

  5. I had all four children in a hospital. The first two with a mid-wife, the third with an OB, and the fourth with a mid-wife.

     

    The fourth birth was absolutely perfect. Everything about it was perfect. We went home when the baby was 27 hours old. The goal was 24 hours, but my husband and I were having some trouble finalizing the name and getting the birth certificate handled.

     

    We stopped at Grandma's house on the way home so the kids could see their new baby brother.

    Me? Hell no. I don't eat oatmeal unless it's a cookie. I think oatmeal is repulsive. I don't like the flavor, the texture, or the smell.

     

    I eat a high protein breakfast. I function best on high-protein and low carbs. I get most of my carbs from fruit and vegetables. I seriously limit my bread, pasta, potato, and rice intake.

     

    The OP asked where else she could get carb sources from and oatmeal was one of my recommendations.

  7. We have the same problem here. I can dust and 2 days later I need to dust again. Dusting is my least favorite house hold chore. If I have company coming, I have to dust the night before they come before I go to bed!

     

    We were even running air filter most of the time. It drives me crazy. I don't recall having this much dust in any other place I have lived.

  8. It's 1:30 here. We had brunch instead of breakfast or lunch because we are horrible morning people. It's been complete chaos here so far today. That seems to be a theme lately. No snacking for me. Trying to lose this last 15-20 lbs. I'm not hungry, so I'm not eating!

     

    Three wishes?

     

    1) I wish the kids would just sit down and do their work without me having to remind them "Sit down and finish your work" every 30 seconds! It's getting old. Really old. We haven't done any history all week because of this.

     

    2) I wish I could get up earlier and be a more productive morning person. I really want to do my work out in the morning too. Mornings are just disastrous and I dread them.

     

    3) I wish we had a bigger house and more money. I know, most people wish that. But seriously, we don't have enough room for 6 people. And we really need a second bathroom.

     

    No conventions for me.

  9. My "I hate clutter" self says get rid of it.

     

    My sentimental self says keep your favorites.

     

    My frugal self says keep it all.

     

    Not very helpful is it? Seriously though, I would get rid of everything too small for your youngest except your favorite outfits.

     

    As for the stuff you are keeping, yes sort it by size. That's what I've done with my second youngest's clothes that I saved for the baby. It's so easy to just grab the box marked "12 - 18 months", throw it in the wash, and move on rather than having to dig through tons of clothes.

  10. Asians know that brown rice is healthier for you. But traditionally (at least in Japan where I grew up) brown rice was seen as poor people's food. The richer people could afford the polished white rice.

     

     

    The same thing once applied to bread . Only the wealthy had white bread. The peasants had brown bread.

  11. When the kids have any meal or snack, it must include a protein. It helps keep them feeling full longer, and helps with whining and melt downs.

     

    Some days the bigger kids need a snack, some days they don't. It usually depends on how much they ate at the last meal, if there wasn't enough protein in that meal, or the next meal is going to be late for some reason.

     

    The younger kids eat much more frequently. In fact, between the two little ones, I feel like I'm always making food for someone.

  12. Target has some -

    I don't know sizes here, but I will warn you that I am 5'3" and skinny, and they make me look like a short square. I was very disappointed.

     

    I was just about to ask how they look on us short people...I'm just about 5'3" and I really like those dresses. :glare:
