  1. The number was 4 hours after her last meal . Thanks so much for your response and trying to help me. I'm always so concerned going for doctor visits that the only option is medicine. I'm looking for my Andrew Weil books right now but of course cannot find them at the moment. Of course I would medicate/treat if there was a diagnosed problem and we couldn't make it better with natural / common sense avenues. Appreciate any feedback you and anyone can offer.
  2. My 15 you daughter has has been very thirsty for almost 2 weeks now . She fasted for Yom Kippur for 26 hours plus had a stuffy nose during this time. My neighbor brought her blood glucose kit over and her number of 82 seemed normal from what I saw online. I will make an appt at the doctor but was curious if this could still be residual from her fast 12 days ago, possible stress (sophmore in high school.......public but small school, specialized in performing arts although she doesn't seem unusally stressed) or if anyone has experienced something similar. I don't think the thirst has been non stop for all 12 days but easily 75% of them. Thanks so much. Sharon
  3. We currently do not take any vitamins/supplements however we used to take a few. I'm sure there are all different opinions out there but I'm just curious what other families are taking and their beliefs about why they take or do not take vitamins/supplements. Thanks for your time. Sharon married to Marc for 21yrs 18yo college freshman @ Williams 15yo high school soph @ Performing Arts Academy almost 13yo hsing 7th grader. saxon 8/7, writeguide/ om science and history, latin history readers, intro to lit course soon, robotics, preparing for Bar Mitzvah.
  4. Almost 13yods just finished 3 yrs lfc primers a-c. Do you think spanish for children primer a would be a good next step for someone that wants a new language and may be attending a public high school career academy in 2 years that only offers spanish as its foreign language? Figured this way he could go in with a leg up in this area since his science and history may possibly be lacking (if he even gets in) Thanks in advance for any input.
  5. Good morning. My almost 13 yo son just finished 3 years of" latin for children " and I was quite pleased with his understanding and ability to work through all the intricasies of the program. Now he would like to start french but I do not know where to begin. My mother in law passed away a few weeks ago and most of the summer was spent helping my in laws. Grateful we were able to do what we did but I'm very behind in piecing certain areas of his curriculum. Any input is more than welcome.
  6. Thank you for your response. Examples really make a difference so thanks for that as well. Could you tell me what the hebrew writing means that you have in your sign off area? Sharon
  7. Hoping some latin experts can help me out here. My 12yods uses lfc primer c. The question on his quiz was: in what situation should you use the imperfect tense? He answered when the past actions are habitual or incomplete. They also wanted him to include things that happened over a period of time and things that happened periodically. This info was in the grammar section of the chapter but our schedules have been thrown off the last few weeks and we started this chapter a few weeks ago (normally we do a chapter a week) Anyway, he is questioning this and I'm having a hard time explaining with examples. Any suggestions or is this getting too detailed and since he had the main idea, should I just leave it be? Thank you so much in advance for any help you can offer. Sharon
  8. Should I be concerned that my 6th grader would prefer to do any writing assignments he has only on the computer as opposed to old fashioned pen/pencil and paper? Should I try and encourage my 6th grader to do some of his writing assignments with pen/pencil and paper or let him write to his hearts content on the computer? He does have to write for other subjects such as latin translations, math, workbooks etc. but paragraphs, summaries etc he prefers (understandably so) the computer. Is it worth the fuss to have him do old fashioned way sometimes? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Sharon
  9. Does anyone have the 6th grade science curriculum from oak meadow that you'd be interested in selling?
  10. Getting panicky trying to decide on history / science/ literature program for ds 6th grade. Sounds like OM gets great reviews. Wondering if some of you just buy the materials/curriculum or are some of you enrolled in a specific subject with teacher support? Would love feedback on both. Thanks so much married to dh 20yrs ds 17yo ps sr. dd 14yo ps fr. ds almost 12 saxon 7/6, lfc primer c, spelling workout, hebrew, fll4, science kits, eclectic history, writeguide, building thinking skills.
  11. Thanks again Sue for your response. You mentioned essays. Assuming this is not something that Mr. Powell grades? I guess what I'm most concerned about is the possibility of him matriculating back to "school" in a year or three and not sure I'd be able to properly critique his essays right now. Otherwise HAOH sounds like it may be worth giving a shot and doesn't seem like you have to pay up front, just monthly? If so and if not working out, we could possibly abandon for something else? (although truly hope it works) Thanks again.
  12. Thank you so much for the responses, I really appreciate the pros and cons and how you presented. How independent would you say this program has been for you? I guess it depends on the student but I'm looking for something as independent as possible but interesting enough where he wants to discuss. My history is mediocre at best but my dh loves discussing history and this would give a nice ave. So, thoughts on how independent he can be (he is almost 12yo)
  13. Has anyone heard of this online class and if so, do you have any comments? Sharon
  14. This is my 3rd yr hsing our 11yods and I really do love it but I need him to do some subjects independently. He has no problem working on his own with engaging material. Ideally I'd love some online classes in this area but don't know what is really good. He is bright, interested and exposed to an older brother who is laid back on one hand but totally motivated academically on the other hand.(17yo went to a private school that almost doesn't exist anymore so not available for 11yo) I just need some time to focus on my 17yo's college path for a few months and helping out aging inlaws 1-2 days a week . Other curriculum: lfc primerC, hebrew language and parsha stories, saxon 7/6, fll4 (need to move on but still find this very thorough) writeguide, buidling thinking skills, spelling workout, violin, baseball, continuous legos, reading, and love wife to dh 20 yrs. 17yods sr. local hs 14yo dd fr. performing arts academy(public) 11yo ds hser
  15. This is my 3rd yr hsing our 11yods (6th grade) I tried the wtm route for history and science our first 2 years but feel I need something more structured and teacher friendly for myself since hx and science aren't my strongest. Could you please give me your favorite secular recommendations in both these areas for his age group? Thanks married to dh 20yrs Sept.16th 17yods-ps-college bound(just switched from 9yrs in private to public for his sr. year) 14yodd-ps-performing arts academy 11yods-lfcprimerc, saxon7/6,building thinking skills, hebrew, fll4, lots of reading (just finished WEsting Game and loved it), writeguide, violin, baseball, lots of hugs
  16. Can anyone suggest an online latin tutor? My 11yods has been using lfc last 2 years and has done very well with it. However, occassionally , there are mistakes which can be quite frustrating for both of us probably because I am simply learning along with him (although he is miles ahead of me) and have no prior knowledge of latin. Thanks so much again, Sharon
  17. For anyone who has or is using lfc, could you please give me your feedback on this program? Thanks so much, Sharon
  18. My 11yods has used lfc for last 2 years and is ready for primer C. I am impressed each year how he remembers all the different conjugations, vocab. etc. however lfc can sometimes have a lot of mistakes in both the workbook and answer key. I do email the author and he usually gets back to me but not always. My question is does anyone use another latin program that they think he could slide into and are you familiar with any online latin tutors? Thanks in advance, Sharon
  19. would like to use either Building Thinking Skills or Mindbenders books for my 5th grader for the logic portion of his curriculum. Any comparison of these would be appreciated asap.
  20. Our first yr hsing our almost 10yods. All is going well however I was indecisive from the get go about science and what to use. We're doing ancients with sotw and in our reading (for the most part) . I was going to follow what wtm recommends but I keep leaning toward something more diverse. Any suggestions? Sharon
  21. Thanks for all the responses. Paula, I actually have not used the dvd for lfc yet. We have it, but I've gotten so anal about television even though I know this is educational......... I really should just check it out myself, maybe it will be more helpful. For fun, I asked ds tonight right before bed if he remembered the case from 1st declension noun chapter and he did! He was proud and encouraged.Thank you!!
  22. Does anyone use Latin For Children(Primer A) with FLL or any other english grammar program other than Shurley? Our almost 10 yods is loving the program thus far, however chapter 3 seems to involve grammar he isn't familiar with and its been a little frustrating for him. LFC says they're integrated with Shurley Grammar , so does this mean if he doesn't use Shurley , the frustration may continue? He loves the activity book and all of it, they just threw us with First Declension Noun along with its case and noun jobs. It tells you not to worry about noun jobs until later, however he has no familiarity with case (Nominative, Genitive,Dative,Accusative, or Ablative) yet. Anyone have any input? Thanks so much in advance. :001_huh:
  23. Not sure if we handled this properly. Our 12yodd dau. was bit by a cockapoo yesterday on her side(meaty part aroun hip) and her hand. Both broke skin, side was black and blue pretty quickly, bleeding seized quickly. The dog is up to date on its shots. Her hand looks better, her side is about the same. We were all out of town when this happened (actually on layover to attending a big party last night)My dau. seems fine, played in her soccer game to day, however I;m wondering if she should get a tetanus shot since I'm sure its over 5 yrs. since her last one. I'm never one to rush for meds when they're ill, etc. Their bodies usually fight pretty well on their own, but this is a little different. Any advice?
  24. Seems there was more of a negative response to artes latinae than positive. I appreciate everyone's input. Any suggestions for a program for my 10th grade private school son who has 2 study periods a day? Never has had latin, great english grammar knowledge etc., has only had hebrew and now takes french. I just started latin for children with my almost 10yo newly hsing son and we are enjoying it, so I'm hoping I can help my 10th grader a bit if necessary. Just need an accredited self-tutorial program that others have had success with. Thanks in advance:001_smile:
  25. Any opinions for artes latinae for my 10th grade private school son who has never had latin (hebrew only foreign language up till now but is now taking french instead) He seems to have a pretty good grasp of the english language grammar rules etc , and is pretty self-motivated.
