  1. Road runners are real? You've just made my night!!!!!!!

We had them in our yard all the time when we lived in AZ. I haven't seen one yet in El Paso, or anytime during my travels around NM.

    White Sands. It looks beautiful.

White Sands is beautiful. I forgot to mention it in my post. My kids just went today to go sledding on the sand dunes.

  2. These are all such great ideas! Thank you. :D

dh and I both really love Catwoman's idea of a dollhouse play area. My girls have a large collection of American Girl dolls and accessories, and this could be a great space to create a fantastic play area for them. I'm envisioning the front of the closet with shelves, baskets, and hooks to organize accessories, and the back space decorated like a play house.

We emptied out our craft/art room today, as we outgrew it, and had to set up in a different room. I think it'll make a fantastic reading nook. dh offered to hang rain gutter bookshelves for me next weekend.  So, now the kids will have their comfy reading nook, and a fun new play area for their dolls.

  3. Sigh, if only it wasn't directly under the stairs - then I could totally see it being a fantastic hideaway for me! But, I'm envisioning myself settling down for some relax time, then having my kids running up and down the stairs like a pack of wild elephants!

My girls are into American Girl dolls, so a dollhouse - I can see them loving that!

Fantastic ideas! Thanks so much - Keep em coming!  :hurray:

  4. I'm looking for some inspiration. I have a closet under the stairs (and just off the kitchen) that is approximately 45 SQFT. I have nothing to store in it, and absolutely no idea what I can use it for. The first half has enough room to stand up in, however, the back half, is only 5 ft high. When we first moved in last November, the kids thought it was the coolest thing ever, and used it as a clubhouse - they've since gotten over it, and haven't been in there for many months. However, if I spiced it up, perhaps they'd use it again. Maybe a book nook, or something like that...

If you had a space like this, with no need for storage, how would you use it?

  5. We moved from VA to El Paso last November. I did all of the research online and found all of the potential homes that would work for us. My parents have a second home in El Paso, and know the city really well. They did the footwork for us with our realtor and took us along via Facetime. After we got the paperwork rolling, we traveled together as a family, and the construction was completed on our house a week after our arrival. We very much trusted the opinion of my parents, however, on construction quality and location, so that was definitely key!

You mentioned staying with family, so I don't know if you'd have someone that you could trust that would be willing to help you out like this. Also, if you're already familiar with the area, that'll make it much easier.

It's always nice to travel together as a family - my husband is in the military, so it's not uncommon for him to be gone for weeks, months, or even a year at a time. We've had to move many times without him. This was the first time, actually, that he was with us - so it was a special trip.

  6. We did our homeschool room in the Rivulet and Daffodil colors from this collection (sorry, I couldn't figure out how to post paint chips). Though, I really like the Rivulet, and I am considering repainting the yellow wall so they're all the same - it's pretty with the extra white trim.

  7. We got her in the store and I asked the lady helping us why her hair didn't look as nice as the displays and she told us that you have to brush and set the finger curls from the beginning.

Thanks for this tip - I think I'll order the hair care set and give this a try.

  8. My dd5 has Caroline. Her hair is a bit of a pain - I brush it every few days to keep it pretty. She's not quite old enough

to do it on her own yet. It takes quite a bit of time. She has Kit hidden in the closet for her birthday that's coming up.

She'll be easier for her to take care of on her own.

  9. My husband is a big salad eater - his favorite is flanks steak salad. I just marinate the steak in 1 cup balsamic vinegar and 6 tablespoons of olive oil, then I boil the marinade while I grill the steak and use it as a salad dressing. I put the steak over a bead of baby spinach and lay the steak over it in thin slices. Then I top with the warm dressing and large shavings of parmesan cheese. I usually have bruschetta on the side as well. Simply diced tomato, garlic and basil mixed together with olive oil and placed on toasted homemade bread slices.

    He'd eat this every day!
