I feel like we are really relaxed with homeschooling (too relaxed?)
I homeschooled my dd for 1st and 2nd. She went to ps for 3rd and I have her brought her back home for 4th(she was bored and ahead in school). This year I tried writing and rhetoric curriculum with her. She hated it, so I told her to write a story. She began her story a month ago and is still writing it a page a day. She enjoys this and her story is filled with interesting words and story lines. I figure I'll let her finish it and then type it and edit it. This will probably take until November. Is this sufficient for writing? We don't do grammer. I will in middle school though. She will start IEW at a co op next year(hoping it doesn't kill her joy of writing but I would love for her to learn structure)

Once upon a chef is my favorite as well as pioneer woman. Any others?

This happened to friend. He called the police/detective that worked in the case and recieved all the information on the guy. They ended up running him out of the neighborhood

Both my kids read it yesterday. They enjoyed it but said it was not nearly as good as the previous books so somewhat disappointing. They did not like the way it was written.

My first thought: are you eating enough?

I have always had dry scalp and still alternate dry scalp shampoos. I shampoo 2-3 times a week. The other times I use only conditioner. I use a hot oil treatment once a week and this seems to be the key to keep flaking and itchiness at bay. I use Alberto v05 oil...I know it's so 80's😊

I do think you should follow up with your dr just to be sure all your symptoms and test values aren't being overlooked. Having protein in your urine with the lower gfr value would warrant a follow up to me. Maybe since the numbers aren't alarming they didn't discuss it with you??

First what test dropped that many points?
Is there a reason other than blood testing that you think you may be headed for kidney disease such as diabetes or congestive heart failure?
Hydration status affects these tests as well.

Wow ok I think my goal is to just make it through the swim. Think I will hang to the very back. This will be interesting!
-
My first thought is that it's a very bold move you're doing. Why have you never learned to swim is my second - do you have a fear of the water? This will effect your capacity to do this kind of swim race. Do you know the water conditions you'll be expected to swim in the tri (e.g., pool, river, lake, deep, shallow)? If it's deep water, then you need to be confident swimming in deep water. If it's a river or lake, then you need to be able to swim in a river or lake, and these are much different than swimming in a pool. Lakes and rivers are cold, are usually not clear, may have strong currents, and may have weeds and other gunk in them. Even the shoreline can be rocky, slippery, etc. You should find out exactly where the swim will start and finish.
There are biathlons for running and biking, if the swimming doesn't work out. As much as learning to swim would be a wonderful achievement, swimming in triathlon race conditions are not the average swim environment. They are a completely different beast.
I do know how to swim and have been doing laps the best I can. Learning to swim efficiently and properly including breathing technique is something I have never learned.

So I'm going to do my first sprint tri in 2 months. I was thinking, "how hard can it be to swim..I can run for miles". Well, it's hard and I don't know what I'm doing and can't breathe properly. And I do know how to swim. Im not going to drown. I have never swam laps or learned technique. A neighbor teen who swims year round has offered lessons. I guess it's worth a try and hopefully she knows how to teach. Ugh, I'm a little discouraged! Anyone else learn to swim properly later in life?
Also it's an open water swim which is a whole another variable to through in there but I need to start with basics

I don't know... He should not have made that comment but I imagine he will be desperate when the time comes(on dialysis). Staring the possibility of death in the face and all.
My dad has had 2 kidney transplants and even with all the horrible side effects of medication, he much prefers being alive and not on dialysis which he says he extremely depressive. (The dependency of it and people dying infront of you all the time) it's scary.
My dad has never come out and asked if I would donate to him if needed but I would definently consider it if he asked.
If your son is asked in the future as an adult, I hope you will let him decide. Of course provide your wisdom to the disicion, but ultimately let him make the choice he will have to live with.

I definitely agree you should look at medical implications. I am a nutritionist, so I'm sorry you had bad luck with the previous ones. I hate using plate models and basic info for people. That is one reason why I don't do counseling. It really sounds like there is more going on than calories in and calories out; however, if you are curious, you can check her caloric intake using my fitnesspal app. (U have probably already done something like that)

She is right. But you will do what you want anyway. This is why I won't counsel people on nutrition.

A company my DH applied for wanted his high school transcript (he graduated 20 years ago and he has a college degree). Since we still live in the same town, I went up to the high school to seeing they had them. The woman laughed and said they only carry records 5 years back. She said he should put down a wonderful gpa on the application since there was no way to check it.
It's absurd to want a high school transcript that far back!

True! Both my kids in ps adore their teachers; however they still want to homeschool in the fall

My son is making a book trailer and he used a template. The template gives blank scenes. He doesn't want to use all the blank scenes but we can't get rid of them, so when we play his trailer the blank scenes show up. We click on the blank scene and the only option is to add a picture. I have googled and no one else has this problem apparently! Thanks for any help
We are using iMovie for iohone

Or can I only buy the solutions manual?
Thanks

Me too! While reading, I told my DH I was moving to Russia to cut grass😄I think it was what the artistic / creative class of Russia, which romanticized peasant life, thought of the upper classes.
I don't think it was likely very representative, even if it was realistic for some individuals.
I think that it was written, as many Tolstoy novels were, as a cautionary tale regarding the dangers of city life, upper class life.
You're supposed to think, "Anna Karenina, too bad she fell prey to such a life. I guess I'll go sheave wheat and make pickles now, to avoid her fate."
And frankly it did kind of have that effect on me, LOL!
-
I love that book. Levin was my favorite and I feel Tolstoy wrote himself into the story though this character. Anna made me mad but more I felt sorry for her. I think she knew she behaved badly and recognized her shameful ways and it ate her up inside. She didn't have the will to change and was too self obsessed.

Hoping there is 1 or 2 of you on here! I have been out of practice for 10 years and have a small opportunity that could lead to more business. An acquaintance wants me to do menu planning/counseling for her. To be honest, in the past I did not enjoy menu planning because it was tedious and I was nervous about offering menus and then people not like their choices/recipes so I stuck with clinical.
Do any of you do this or could you recommend a resource/ book to help me get started. I assume by now there is awesome software for this but to begin I assume I will use the usda database. I have reached out to classmates and hoping to hear back from them. It's been 10 years!
Any advice?

Thank you all for the advice and much needed perspective! I am going to talk to him today and work on checklists and resolutions. I should probably apologize for my overreaction...
Knowing what to do in these situations is so hard for me! I didn't have very involved parents growing up so usually I feel like I'm winging it, for better or worse.

My Ds 11 has lost or broken 5 pairs of goggles in 2 months. We make him pay to replace them by doing extra chores to earn money, but 5 pairs! This is getting ridiculous. He borrowed a pair from his friend this week and he lost those so now he will have to replace those too. He is a good kid but absent minded and sometimes reluctant to take responsibility. Well I had enough last night. I told him he needed to find a way outside of his family to earn money to replace the goggles AND I would not be taking him to do a fun activity that he has really been looking forward to today. He completely melted down because I'm not taking him. My DH says it seems harsh to include the missed activity as punishment as well since I'm already making him find a way to earn money.
What do you guys think?

I outgrew it after age 14. We never tried meds but I did learn to do laundry at a young age. I know it's frustrating
