  1. We are using Writing Tales 1 and 2 for my 4th grader, Jump In for my 6th grader and Lightening Lit 7 for my 7th grader. We are very happy with all of them...for some reason, we didnt enjoy IEW or Writing Strands, although they work very well for many of our friends.

    Good Luck with your search.

  2. Hi,

We are currently using the following and love all of them. I wouldn't say they are necessarily for gifted kids....I think all kids could benefit greatly from this style of interative hands on study..anway, here is what we have:

I Wonder-K ( this is by far my favorite)-Great for wiggly worm kids, ages 5-6.

    Mystery Disease-using for Grade 6

    Stock Market-using for Grades 6-7

    Mystery River-using for Grade 6

Patterns- Grade 1 ( not using yet)

  3. Stephanie K..have you personally used this curriculum? SpyCar..can you provide the link to that comment? I have personally used pre-level 1 Chem, Chem 1, Bio 1 and starting Physics 1 and in each case, there has been absolutely no mention of evolution in any text. They are written from a very neutral viewpoint.

I get very concerned when statements like above are posted without links to support them. If you could please provide the links or PM, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks,

  4. Well, I have a very different perspective after losing my only sister ( age 45) and brother in law ( age 44)...(they have surviving children) this year in separate tragic car accidents....same thing went on with my siblings for years....I have three brothers...each never acknowledging my gifts....until my sister's wake...when each of them in their own way told me how much they appreciated me all of these years and how in hindsight, they wish they had a chance to tell my sister the same thing, but now they never will....want my advice?? Life is too short for stuff like this. You really just dont know what tomorrow will bring so just pick up the phone and clear the air.....and just ask them what they would like to do for holiday gift giving...for all you know, they really treasure your generosity:) You are a great sister for doing this all these years....despite the lack of response....but you need to talk to them before it might be too late one day and you will never really know how they feel.....just my two cents...Blessings:)

  5. Hi,

I am trying to plan for next year and I was hoping to have at least one or two subjects the kids could complete independently. Has anyone used these CDs and if so, are they challenging? Do your kids like them? Do they save time compared to having mom say all the words? Any thoughts would be appreciated. I have two very strong spellers currently using Sequential and one finishing up All About Spelling that has informed me she would like to try something different "on the computer".

    Thanks,

    Colleen
