It's the opining of the urethra
Are you sure?? Or is this some kind of indie film title?

Darn kids' books - they make me cry all the time. My poor dd!
Sheesh - he worked so hard for that. It was making me so nervous he was buying all that stuff on credit, though. It all seemed doomed from the start.
That one got to me too. I mean, I didn't cry but I'm a robot.

I love really beautiful furniture and my grandparents and parents collected furniture like this over the course of their marriages and those pieces will last forever.
I just can't seem to bring myself to lay out that kind of money for investment quality furniture. Maybe b/c I still have little, sticky children and have reached max capacity on stuff I have to yell at them about. I don't know. Time will tell I guess.

Well...that is interesting.
It is articles like this that proclaim to have all the answers to make people better Christians, that alienate people and cause non-Christians to want to stay far away.
Nakia,
another conservative Christian
But why? The actions of a fringe group shouldn't lead to an indictment against an entire extremely varied population unless you're already disposed to prejudicial feelings against that population. I think these fringe groups are an excuse, not a reason, for people to unleash their anti-Christian feelings.
Zelda, a non-Christian

Kind of reminds me of when they started slapping "Zero Trans Fat!" on mayonnaise labels. (not comparing the Bible to mayonnaise, though I am a big fan of both)
Right. Or stuff that never had any fat. Like applesauce.

Not only can we make do with the Bibles we have, we can also find those same verses in those same Bibles...we don't need someone to highlight them in green for us. I can use ONE Bible to look up a variety things.
But everyone won't know how green you are if your Bible doesn't show it.
Maybe you could make a cover for it out of organic hemp that says, "I am not a plastic Bible".
-
but, but, Zelda!! is there such a thing as too much scripture?? ;)
That I would not know. What I do know is that the green revolution has sparked a tremendous industry as people toss their perfectly functioning but old environmentally un-hip products in favor of new, expensive green alternatives. I think its been brilliant marketing but I can't help but feel a little wry smile creep up whenever I witness it. Which is a lot here in Northern CA.

I'm not Christian or green but it seems to me that the really green thing to do would be to keep the Bible you already have that's working for you rather than consuming a brand new bible.

I'm going to say it largely genetic but I also think you don't tend to see many very heavy set advanced seniors. Perhaps maintaining a consistent healthy weight is very advantageous.
I was going to agree with the low key thing too but then I remembered my grandmother who is a bit of nervous bird. Maybe she's an outlier.

What kind of literature memorization does it have ?
Is it only poetry, in which case we have plenty in our home, or well chosen excerpts from classics, or something else ?
No, it definitely is not only poetry though there are some poetry selections. Drew posted a link to a site where you could view sample pages. I think it was yesterday.

I grew up there. INSIDE Detroit. You'll notice that if you ever say "I'm from Detroit" the first thing someone asks is "Where?" (meaning "which suburb?") Detroit. Detroit?? Detroit. Ohhh!!
Yup, I'm from the 810 myself.
I went to Wayne too! Many fine hours spent at the DIA. A hidden gem.
Detroit's still waiting for that renaissance. I hope it gets it someday.
-
Sorry Zelda - see, I KNEW I'd offend someone! :grouphug:
Not offended. :001_smile: Detroit has earned its terrible representation. Its been run into the ground by the powers that be.
-
Detroit.
But I guess it depends on how you define "worst" - worst for crime, schools, jobs, beauty, people, weather? Detroit hits a negative on all of those for me (my apology to anyone who lives there :tongue_smilie:).
I love Detroit. Grew up near Detroit. My dad worked downtown and I went to a university on the east side. Cool town.
But, there are parts of Detroit that give me deep anxiety just driving through...days and days worth.

If that's mean, I don't want to be nice. Good luck! :001_smile:

Happy New Year all! I need some tips and suggestions to raise my self esteem. I'll turn 50 this year. I have a great dh and happy home, but in this area I am really lacking. I am trying to loose a few pounds, probably need a really good haircut (it's very long and thick and plain), and want to find a few nice new undies. Other than those ideas, I can't think of anything to try. I feel frumpy and plodding, and without my denim jumpers I wouldn't have much else to wear. I do wear makeup, perfume, paint my toenails, but still I don't feel alluring on the inside. I would love some tangible ideas to try this new year to be a more sexy woman.
Ginger
PS. If the word *sexy* isn't allowed, I apologize in advance! :D
Honestly, I would reconsider the importance of sexy and alluring. The media and the popular culture would make you think that nothing is more important. They are wrong on this point too.
Not that attending to appearance isn't important but that's another matter from sexy. You've already suggested a few things that you think would make you feel more put together and they sound like a good start. I've got a couple of those on my list too. :001_smile:

We just dropped my folks off at the airport and now we will couch and wait for the ball to drop. Just as soon as I creak away from my desk.

 Um, no. I never considered that a kid would require therapy after having a medical procedure to correct a small anatomica/physiological problem.
Would it help you to use a surgical mask? Surgical gloves? Put a fig leaf over it?
Of course, each to his own.
I have to say I'm surprised by the reaction to the idea of correcting this at home. It seemed like a benign suggestion to me. Similar to correcting a minor phimosis or such.

Isn't this when it's most important, though? Don't we all hope our children will have the courage to speak up for those who need it? I don't think I could stand by and NOT say something if my girls were there hearing and seeing that with me. Though, actually, I don't think I'd have to. I think my DD6 would step right in front of me and do it herself, LOL!
I don't think its my responsibility to police the behavior of others. In this case the victim could have spoken for herself and for reasons known only to her chose not to. I would try to make her feel better in that moment but would direct none of my attention toward the offender.

Dh and I would be likely to get ourselves in trouble in situations like these. We're likely to say something like, "Excuse me! I don't care who you are but you can wait your turn just like everyone else. This IS a public place and we have every right to be here and you do."
This is exactly what I said to Hannibal. He wasn't having any of it.

Hello,
I'm new to this board, but have been using FLL 3 for 9 yo DD (3rd grade) since September. We switched to FLL from Sonlight, so this is my first experience with SWB's book.
Overall, I like the program, but am now finding that DD isn't quite grasping the concepts as quickly as they are introduced in the workbook. She seemed to do alright with the basic diagrams of verb/subject/adverb. But, now, at lesson 37, I find she is lost (and has been since we started clapping and naming the helping verbs around lesson 27).
She is an avid reader, and uses the correct forms of verbs in her sentences; her writing is pretty good. But, once we get past the very basics of diagramming and identifying parts of speech, the concepts do not seem to be sticking.
I am thinking that I should go back and review, or provide some additional exercises to reinforce these concepts. If so, I am wondering if there are any resources anyone knows of that would provide this extra practice so I do not have to reinvent the wheel.
Has anyone else used this program and found the need to slow down or review? I have seen many reviews of Level 1/2, but not many addressing Level 3. Perhaps because it is so new?
Thanks and Happy New Year!
Jennifer
I think you will be okay, actually. FLL4 repeats the information adding new information along the way. But, if she is really lost then it might not hurt for her to do the review lessons again (they are every 10th chapter or something). Those are long lessons that you can break up into 2 or 3 days worth of lessons.

No, I wouldn't have but I probably would have been delighted to watch you do it.
I'm in the category that would have made some kind of comment to the cashier in hopes of being comforting.

I was once trampled by Hannibal's elephants while on holiday in the Alps.
That was before I moved to Vermont where I was once pushed aside by Howard Dean's entourage (aka his brother) while Howard took his kids on a tour of the Ben & Jerry's factory.

Based on anecdotal information from my own life I would not do this because of your younger children. If it were just you and your dh I would encourage you to go ahead and give it a try. You can try to help in other ways. :grouphug:
What *thing* had you never heard of before you visited this board?
