  1. Hi,

We are a non Christian homeschooling family. I have to enrolled my son in TPS English 3 LS,but as I saw the placement paper literary analysis question, they ask for a Biblical reference in the essay. Would the teacher grant us an exception with using the Bible as reference? As an exception, could my son use our own Holy Book as a reference so that they can still see how the student can incorporate citations and integrate outside sources in the essay....

Has anyone had this scenario? How did you tackle this problem?

    Thank you.....

  2. Not the PP, but:

Looks like it's full.  But there are 3 options for the summer:  click here and choose summer 2017, life skills, high school level.

My daughter is taking the August 21-24th one as a "Welcome to High School" course, LOL.

    HTH!

    Thanks for the link!

  3. Thank you ladies, for sharing your experiences. May I ask that does level 1,2 ad 3 English courses contain grammar in diagramming? As my daughter hasn't been taught the grammar in a diagramming way so how easy or difficult it would be to deal with the diagramming? Secondly, my daughter often needs an office hour so How easy is to request and arrange office hour each week with the teacher?

  4. What sorts of errors is she making?  What is her grammar background?  My son used Jensen's Punctuation, but it was after using the MCT grammar books for a few years so he was solid on things like identifying clauses.

She has used 2 years of MCT grammer but I don't know why she is making errors. Could you guide me how to do this book?

  5. We've used Landry Academy for Literature and Composition courses and right now kids are doing some Excelsior classes this Spring. We have had Mrs. Whitlock at Landry and now have her in Excelsior and we are fond of her teaching skills. Now in the phase of planning for the year 2017-2018 English classes for my 2 children.

So, I'm wondering what Potter's School courses have been done by your kids and what your opinion of the course was.Why did you or did you not like it? Pros and Cons?  Did you see growth in your student's writing skills? Are there the weekly slides in pdf or any other format and recordings on the student's dashboard to view it as needed later on? How much time consuming they are and how much challenging...? Are the TPS English courses rigorous and comprehensive?(Comprises of Grammer, Literature and Writing components altogether) What should be the student's English courses at TPS, if he/she has to do AP English Language at by the end of the road?(Depends on testing placement if she starts from English 2?) How much competitive is student placement in a certain level of English course at TPS? How easy is to request and arrange office hour each week with the teacher?

Which English teachers would you recommend for these Levels:

English 1: Kristy Massie, Ruth Ann Fed., Lorri Wilkie, Abigail Gray, Lori Talbert, Adria Day, Jimmy Leonard

English 2: Diana Thomas, Kristy Massie, Ruth Ann Fed., Abigail Gray, Nancy Shearon, Lori Talbert

English 3 Literature Survey: Linnea Geno, Vanessa Bush, Diana Thomas, Nancy Shearon, Ruth Ann Fed

Do Parents have to check the Math HW Qs. before handing in(Like Landry Academy)

If anyone wouldn't mind sharing any experience with these teachers and courses I would appreciate it.

    Thanks for reading!

  6.

If anyone has taken the Writing and Literature courses for High School from Homeschool connections then:

    Here are my queries:

1)Do they cover summaries, outlining, Biographic sketches, protagonist /antagonist writing, citations, literature analysis, poetry analysis, literary elements and pick out specific themes of the book, How to annotate, Narrative /Expository/ Descriptive/ Persuasive, compare/ contrast cause and effect essay, Timed essay and 3-5 page response papers?

2)How much time is expected to spend on assignments, writings and readings per week?

3)May I ask how many papers/Essays are included in the Development and advanced writing courses?(High School Simplified writing 2,3 and 4, High School Essentials writings 2,5 and 6, Vocabulary and writing 1 and 2)

4)Are there secular literature options for High school? Are there literary response paper and analysis essays in literature courses? and how many papers? Do they have suggested schedules for writing and literature courses?

5)Is grading by rubric difficult for the parents? What are the charges for instructor grading?

    Thanks !

  7. My son would need some Basic Programming courses with some projects to practice and some support if he gets stuck. He did Scratch and some Phyton programming along with code.org. I have seen some programs online:

    https://www.udemy.com/kids-coding-introduction-to-html-css-and-javascript/---$19

    https://www.codecademy.com/learn/learn-html-css---$20per month

    https://www.khanacademy.org/computing/computer-programming/html-css

    https://www.udacity.com/course/intro-to-java-programming--cs046

Any Coursera or Edx courses for beginners? Which one to choose?

Can those whose kids have taken online classes share your experiences including any pros/cons? Thanks.

  8. My son has finished Tablet class Algebra 1 in the spring. Ds(13) is working through Khan Academy and EDX algebra and is doing pretty well with it. At this point, we're looking at Algebra 1(Saxon Math) in the fall.

I think over the summer, I'd like to use something to review and retain all the skills for the advanced Maths.. Any ideas of what I could use for this?

I would love to hear your experiences with all these options.

Khan Academy Algebra 1 or Algebra 2 and Geometry

    Mathhelp.com Algebra 1 Algebra 2 and Geometry

AOPS Prealgebra or Algebra (without books just use the site)

Which one would be the best option for summer learning?

    Thank you!
