  1. Put me down in the "love" camp too! My son went from kicking/screaming/crying (and that was me!) our way thru Book 1 of Horizons 4 to TT6. He "got" the concepts and didn't really have any trouble "doing" the math. He was just overwhelmed with all the problems not only on the page and the lesson for the day, but also what was 5, 10, or 20 lessons away. I like that in TT all he has to focus on is the one problem at a time. He can't look ahead 30 lessons and say "ahh that's too hard, I don't know how to do that!!" Also "Math 6" has given him the confidence that he can be "good" at math. I find that no more confusing than 5/4 or 6/5. And while I wouldn't say he loves math, there usually isn't a drudge report! I smile when I walk by and hear DS with his cool "tutor". Now I have the time to figure out how the heck this Miquon works for my dd :tongue_smilie:

  2. Okay. Now, I'm offended. I'm CRAZY!?

JK. I'll join you in the moderate/wishy-washy/wine drinking/chocolate eating corner!!!

Jennifer ohpleaseohpleaseohplease let me come to the corner! I'm a super fun square peg .

I was telling my sister how irritated I was with the "left-wing liberal""right-wing republican" either/or of the world.... I decided I am a "chicken-wing vegetarian"

  3. Bless you!! Bless you one and all!! Thank you for letting me feel normal again!! I am often left thinking 'how do I seem like the crazy person now'? (Not saying anyone else in particular is particularly crazy... but just so opposite and adamant.... and loud) I am a moderate/ wishy-washy/ wine-drinking/ chocolate-eating / can't we all just get along / what's so funny 'bout peace, love and understanding really, really nice person!

So indeed ,a beach with you ladies sounds lovely... so instead of my head in the sand it would be "toes in the water, @#$ in the sand, not a worry in the world , cold beer in my hand...."

  4. DH & I are in the "talking about it" phase, but I am pretty sure we are getting close to the "starting it" phase. I heard it was good for people with type II diabetes ( which my DH is newly diagnosed) . I just need to break my addiction to carbs and lose some weight. What books do you all think I need? I was going to order some stuff from half.com, so I wanted to go ahead and get what I need for a go(combined shipping) deal.

    There's

    The South Beach Diet

    a cook book

    a dining guide and

a good carbs, bad carbs guide.....

Any advice as to what I should purchase??

  5. My dd is about to lose her mind because she can't figure out how to make Link turn while he is hanging from the rope in Dragon Roost Cavern. If anybody knows how to make him do this, please let me know. She tried the little gray knob thingy that the instructions said to do, but it didn't make anything happen.

Please post if you or your dc knows what she is doing wrong.

MY ds says she needs to hold down the R button while moving the control stick (the little gray thingy) left or right. "It is the key to winning the Dragon Roost Cavern level".......... I have no idea what I just typed, but that's what the expert says..........

  6. WOW! thank you all so much for all of this advice. I knew this was the place to ask! I appreciate it so much. I know my parents.... if I don't have a plan when we get there, we won't do anything at all. It is actually the first time my children have ever "been" anywhere, so it is not only a family visit, but also a grand vacation adventure for us. I thought 2 weeks sounded like a long time when I planned the trip, now I am not so sure! We will definately make it to Galveston, or elsewhere, for a beach walk, as well!

  7. We are coming to Houston next week to visit my parents. My children are 11yo ds and 6 yodd. So what should we do?!?!?!? There seems like sososo much to do. We certainly can't afford the time or the $ to do it all, so I'd love some advice.

( I know about the CityPass, but that seems like too much pressure to do everything)

I'm thinking the Space Center, the zoo, and the Children's Museum(we have reciprocal zoo and museum membership, so that would save $$) . My dd would love an aquarium as well ~ what about that Downtown Aquarium? I read somewhere it is a restaurant? Oh and Ikea~ I must go to Ikea!

  8. We recognized Martinmas... but just a little. We read Matthew 25:31-40 and then read St. Martin's story in the Children's Book of Virtues . We meant to make lanterns, but didn't quite get there, so we lit last year's lanterns at dinner. Also pulling out last years coats to donate to the shelter for women and families is an important part of the tradition. I love Martinmas, but it is still new to us. Each year I get a little better at recognizing it....at least this year I remembered!!
