  1. Next time, tell the stylist you want your curles to touch your shoulders when dry. Length of hair is always measured straight, so she actually did cut hour hair the way you asked. To achieve the length you wanted, it would need to be several inches below your shoulders.

Anyhoo... I think it looks great! I would love to have curles, long or short!:D

  2. Check out Apples & Pears Spelling. It is designed for dyslexic dc. It is a very different approach to spelling. There are no lists. If you go over to the special needs board, you can read lots about the program. I use it with my dyslexic dd and my ds, who is not dyslexic. I really can't say enough about the program. I love it.

If you go to the web site, you can preview the entire program. The program uses dictation as part of the learning process. It also gives a tremendous amount of repetition. I started at the the beginning of the program this year with my 2nd grader. I thought it would be too easy, and the first several pages was, but I am glad I did. It gave my dd confidence.

  3. Find out how much the forclosures have sold for in your neighborhood. Unfortunatly, that is the price you are going to be able to sell the house for. In order for the buyers to qualify for a loan, the sell price must be near the appraised value. The appraised value is determined by the average sell/forclosure auction price of the houses in your neighborhood. It doesn't matter if your house is nicer, the computer/bank generated value only looks at square footage and the sell price of surrounding houses.

We just closed a short sale. We did not do anything to fix it up. Our realtor told us not too because we were loosing money. Your house should sell if it is priced near the average cost of what the foreclosed houses sell for at auction.

  4. So, this might be old news to those of you with teenage daughters, but Kotex just came out with a "tween" line of maxi-pads, and it is LIFE CHANGING. They actually fit perfectly in my underwear without hanging over the sides, bunching up or getting awkwardly stuck to my nether-regions. Same absorbency, too!

    (I know, I know, I'm a grown-up; I should use tampons ... but I HATE them.)

I love them too! I even like the fun colors and designs.:D

  5. Within the Orthodox church baptism and communion are considered Mysteries (which is roughly translated as "sacraments" in the west). I do know Protestants who consider baptism - as we or Catholics/Episcopalians/Lutherans see it - as a works righteousness. We don't see it that way - it is how strict Bible only Protestants interpret it. I was trying to see how you defined works. Thanks for answering...

I'm cooking dinner, visiting with family and all the other Christmasy stuff. Gotta run, but hopefully I'll get back to this conversation tomorrow.

I have been taught that Baptism is a public profession or a public symbolic announcement of your profession of faith (acceptance of Jesus). I know some protestants believe it is required for salvation, but I have never viewed it that way. I'm not sure what you mean by 'works righteousness'. How is it viewed in the EO Faith?

  6. Hi Tabrett. You know I realized I started talking before I realized exactly what you may mean by "works". I shouldn't have made that assumption. Are you talking about things like baptism or things like being kind to neighbors? Different Christians traditions may view either of these as works. But then, you may be talking about something completely different from either of those too.

    Hum.... First Merry Christmas.

I would define works as attending church, tithing and being kind to neighbors. I don't define things such as baptist or communion as 'works'; would they not be defined as sacraments?

  7. It's all grace. The very next breath you draw is by the grace of God.

However, in salvation, God will not force Himself on you--or it can't be love--so it is up to you to respond to His offer of communion--in love. If that counts as a "work" then ...

We do good works so we can be like Christ. The goal is union with Him...so we want to be like Him. He did good works--so should we. :0)

That sounds very Armenian in thought, which is how I believe. I believe you must choose to accept God's gift of salvation. That is is freely bestowed to all and it is our choice to accept or reject. Is this similar to EO's view? If not, what makes it different.

What is the definition of 'works' from an EO view? I have been taught that it is actions that you do intentionally to please God; to gain favor to try to 'pay' for your salvation. I have a feeling this is not the definition of works from an EO perspective.

I believe that works are an outflow of of God's love for us that we show to others. That once you accept Christ, you have a desire to love and serve Him, not you try to show Him love and serve him to try and gain His favor. Is this similar to EO?

  8. Start with this short
. I nearly cry every time I listen to it; it is beautiful. Salvation is a journey, not just a destination. I'm not good with words on this subject, that is why offer this. I believe the other ladies will be able to explain better. I may have more later. (I have someone coming in a bit to fix the phone line)

How does EO view Grace? I have been taught that once you accept Jesus, you are saved through Grace and there are no works that can determine salvation, only God's Grace. Is "working out your salvation" the same as "works"? Is there a place for Grace? I have been taught that works are an outgrowth from salvation.

As you can tell, EO is very different from what I have been taught.

  9. How does the Eastern Orthodox Church understand salvation? I am coming from a Protestant Armenian background and am trying to hash out my views; maybe change.;)

Scripture references, for me to study that support the understanding, would be great!

I have tried to read about EO online and may have some questions once I learn a little more.

  10. I'm 40 and feel sharper than I ever have. My grandmother is 85 and in good mental condition. The things I notice that causes her problems with cognitive ability are vision, hearing and physical degeneration. Her brain is sharp, but she doesn't hear or see things correctly because of loss that comes with age. Her arthritis causes her to have to rest more and do less.

I think if she had perfect vision and hearing and did not have arthritis, she would be on top of things as well as me.

I'm not sure the problems she has can be prevented. They are natural occurrences with old age. She ate junk all her life and lots of sugar, but was always in a healthy weight range. She didn't exercise. Her brain is sharp, but her body is aged.

The only thing I can think of that could cause her to be so healthy, mentally, is she is a very spiritual person. She reads the Bible, prays, reads Christian books and listens to sermons all.the.time.

  11. Real homeschooling has taught me that LD's are not the product of neglect or poor teaching. Honestly, I thought if you started teaching a dc to read at 3 with a solid phonics program, they would be reading chapter books in 1st grade.:glare: Dc will only learn as much as they are capibable of learning no matter how hard you push. Some dc are natural readers and can learn via any method. Some dc need tremendous repetion for a simple math fact to stick. Real homeschooling has taught me that we expect way too much from PS teachers.

Real homeschooling consists of trying lots of curriculum to find the right one. Instead of being a fun learning experience, it has turned into a fight to help my dd stay at grade level.

It has also taught me how important it is that I keep homeschooling. If I were to send my dd to PS, she wouldn't learn anything.

  12. I'm taking a guess, after watching the commercial, that it could be shown in any time slot.:glare:

It looks like it was written to purposefully be used in time slots before 10pm. All the actors are clothed in regular day wear, the scenes are shot outside and not in a bedroom. Nothing tEa related is mentioned. No picture of the product is shown and it is verbally called a 'personal massager'.

The commercial writers probably followed strict guidelines to quallify the commercial for any time slot with the intent of advertising to moms who are watching shows with their families.

  13. Read WWE The Complete Writer. It would answer all your questions and explain the developmental stages from copywork, narration to writing without help. The ability to write a good paragraph doesn't happen till around 4th grade. It isn't just the ability to remember what you narrated, but also the mechanics of writing such as grammar, spelling and physical stamina of the hand. Beautiful narriations are what you want in 2nd grade.

Write down what he narriates and have him copy. Next year write down his narriations and dictate the to him.

  14. I have used both, but am sticking with R&S only because I want to use Bible stories as my readers. We start with The Early Readers Bible and then go the R&S 1st grade 2nd book (unit 2-3). Unit one is too easy after ERB and honestly unit 2 is also, so we fly through the books until it gets challenging and then slow down to one lesson a day. R&S doesn't have any character training stories. It is purely Bible stories.
