  1. If so, have you looked at the home school lending library in Pflugerville? My friend who uses TOG gets lots of her books there. Membership for a year is $39.

    Here is the website:http://www.christianhomelibrary.org/

Hopefully that link will work. If not, try searching for Christian Home Library.

Actually, I don't :blushing: live in Austin. I didn't think of that when I picked my user name. My actual name was already taken and everyone had such cute names (which were already taken, lol). I was petting my dog, Austin, and drinking a cup of tea and that equals user name. :D I don't think well under pressure, lol.

  2. We are using TOG Year 2 and it just isn't working for us. We haven't gotten too far because it seems like we can't get a handle on it and we have had some problems getting things from the library. I ended up buying more of the books to get us through the first unit. I don't feel like my dd (10th grade) has learned anything. I'm ready to throw it out! I am really wishing I would have just gone with Sonlight. I don't know what to do or how to save this year of school. Any advice?

  3. In hindsight, one of the best things my doctor did for me the day after my first c-section was sit down next to my bed and explain (again), why he chose to do the c-section. It helped my state of mind so much in the instances where someone has suggested that I could have prevented my c-sections if I had just been better informed.

I think hearing why your doctor did or wants to do a c-section is one of the best things you can do. I had one with my first and I'm not sure exactly why so I don't know if it could have been prevented or not. With my second I was thinking that I would be having another c-section but in the last couple months before my due date my doctor talked to me about my fears and his reasoning for thinking I should try a vbac. He assured me that as soon as I was at the hospital in labor that an OR would be made ready in case I needed it.

    Philothea,

All of that basically to say, I would talk to your doctor/midwife and the doctor who wants to see you to see what the reasons are and to discuss your concerns with them. A solution that is pleasing to all of you may be able to be reached.

I'll be wishing the best for you.

  4. One such family, the Kuesters (Kee-sters), had a daughter they named Candace. For short they called her Candy. I always felt bad for her having a name that inspired people to make jokes about.

There were a few Candace/Candy(s) around where I live. Its kinda funny, since I grew up with hearing that name a lot, I never thought anything about it.

  5. You aren't the only one to use crisco! I use butter flavored crisco - and we make great chocolate chip cookies. According to my mom the toll house recipe she used way back when originally called for shortening.

I would never make them without crisco!

And also - getting them off the cookie sheet quickly prevents them from getting crispy. Let them cool on wire racks.

:iagree: I haven't had a problem since I started using butter flavor Crisco. Before that, they always went flat.

  6. I live about 45 min. to an hour from St. College, we take my mom's cat to a vet there. I don't find the regulations to be that hard. Keep a list of what you do every day to show at the end of the year along with samples of the work done, have that looked at by an evaluator (there are a lot in the St. College area), get the letter from the evaluator and turn that (plus the stuff you showed the evaluator) into the superintendent. It's a bunch of paper work but not difficult. I use Homeshool Tracker and mark the things done and then print it out at the end of the year.

  7. We bought a set of books from them. Well, actually my dh did. It was a few weeks after my dd was born and I had to have some minor surgery as an out patient. I was in bed still out of it when the college boy came to our door. Dh figured that since we homeschool it would be great. He did come in and ask me but I would have told him to buy anything the way I felt :001_huh:. We really haven't used them though. I try, but no luck.

  8. I've enjoyed reading these posts, I realize I don't have any real friends. I would enjoy a little quiet time if dh took the kids for a week, then I would probably hang out with my mom. I am busy with the kids and things so normally if we do anything we do things with my dad and step-mom or church stuff. I just figure it is the phase of my life I am in. I wouldn't be against having a friend, I would probably even welcome it, but I have always been a shy person so the other person would have to start it.

  9. :lol::lol::lol:

This has been my week! When I had enough of it two days ago and changed all the rules my dh got mad. So I also adopted the I don't care attitude.

    My contribution:

Please leave all your half empty pop cans and glasses on the coffee table so the big dog will spill them when he wags his big tail and of course I will love to be the one to clean it up, that is of course, after I have found where you left the cleaner, paper towels, or little cleaning machine.

  10. The first Christmas I was married, I gave them homemade chocolates (a tradition in my family) and my fil took me aside and told me that homemade gifts are not acceptable in their family.

 I must say, I was shocked when I read this.

I try to be frugal but sometimes my dh is worse than the kids when it comes to wanting things like video games. My kids are bad when it comes to wanting to go to McDonalds when we are in town.
