I read your PM, and FWIW, I don’t think his language would be any problem here.  Not in that post at least. What he’s claiming would likely be a problem for a majority of people though.

You mentioned initially that your trip to Walmart was to get craft supplies for your kids. I love craft supplies as much as the next person, but that would be an example of something considered unnecessary.

The majority of people also believed Bernanke when he said subprime was contained, this guy knew it wasn't. He also knew that WaMu was toast. He's very good at looking at numbers and recognizing patterns, I've followed his work since 2007. I trust him.

The restrictions are to control the spread of disease. It’s spread person to person. The greater number of people interacting, the more it will spread. If Walmart is packed, it will spread to more people than if Walmart is sparsely populated. People are going out for things not required. If only essential shopping is happening, the stores will be much less crowded.

Do you have a reference for this? I haven’t seen anything to indicate we are anywhere even remotely close to having enough people infected for herd immunity to kick in yet.

As far as something official, there is a paper out of Germany this week. Google covid 19 study Germany. There is nothing "official" here yet, but the person I read is doing the math that shows we're lining up with that as well. I'll send you a PM, this guy is a math whiz, but I think this board would find his language offensive....

I think a packed Walmart parking lot is precisely a sign of why the government is having to get more restrictive. If Walmart is packed, the current restrictions aren’t working and that is causing them to need to close more things. People should only be there for necessities.

I don’t doubt there are CSAs somewhere that work that way, but none of the ones I know. They save their own seeds and/or order from specialty supply places, and those orders have all been placed by this point.

Which  Isn’t actually to say that I agree with not letting people buy gardening supplies. I think there should be a way for people to get the supplies they need to grow food. Preferably curbside pick up.  I had wanted to have veggies planted by this point myself, and haven’t been able to do to it due to not meeting the stay at home requirements in my area.

What do you mean by the last sentence? How long do you think it’s been around? I’m getting the impression that because social distancing measures are looking to have significantly flattened curves most places, people are thinking that means the measures weren’t required in the first place. Which was a predicted outcome of successful social distancing – – that people would think it was an overreaction. But the fact that we are still dealing with significant outbreaks, some large enough to overwhelm local hospitals, despite most people being under stay at home orders, should be pretty sobering. Without those orders, the story right now would undoubtedly be incredibly different.

The R0 was already being suppressed due to herd immunity, before the lock downs.

  4. Looks like she might be dealing with a protest soon if she keeps it up. Extraordinary actions require extraordinary proof. The models were outrageously wrong. I give them the benefit of the doubt for the first couple of weeks. The evidence is mounting that this virus has been around longer than they originally thought, but they surely know now.

  5. I can't help with annoying relatives, but our friend who is a general contractor has a friend who does carpentry. A large regional home builder pays this guy beaucoup bucks to be a "fixer." If anything goes wrong, he goes in and cleans up the mess.  He can basically name his own price, because he is reliable and talented. He does other things in the higher end homes as well, again, naming his price because he is talented. And no, it isn't all about money, but building a beautiful staircase can't be outsourced to another country, and he loves his work.

Open Tent Academy - look for instructor Jonathan Meola. He uses a lot of videos in his instruction. My neurotypical DD is in his class on US History from Reconstruction to the present. She gets a little bored watching all the videos but I know for sure he likes to use videos in his classes. (His background is in film studies, I believe...I think I read that in his instructor profile.) If you sign up your daughter for the US History course that uses Joy Hakim books, you can get them as audiobooks. That's what I did for my kiddo - although I did that more for expediency than for reading support. She listens to the audiobooks when she goes for walks in the afternoon so she gets in her P.E. while doing her history reading!

    Good luck with your search!

That sounds great, I'll check it out. Thank you!!

  7. You are doing the right thing. My sister had just turned 20 & BIL was 21. My mom was apprehensive but totally supportive. My parents gave them a beautiful wedding. Less than a year later, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, and two years after that she passed away. My sister has wonderful memories and photos of their wedding day. They have 4 awesome kids & have been married for 22 years. Anything that a naysayer could have said means absolutely nothing today.

  8. The "average" range is pretty broad.  Kids at the bottom have not mastered grade level skills (and actually, kids who are dead average have not actually mastered grade level skills either, but no one is going to admit that).

That's scary. Our first go at homeschooling was in response to feeling that was the case. We did Phonics Pathways back then, and that seemed to catch her up a good amount. High school level material, especially the amount of reading required, is overwhelming to her at this point. I'm trying to change things up with more videos, and reading to her.

  9. Thanks for the response, I'll check out that information. She's 16, and has had epilepsy since she was 11 months old. She has had a mixture of public/private/and homeschool. Her most recent evaluation included the diagnosis of specific learning disorder with impairment in reading. They suggested OG based instruction, so we went with Barton. She was always on the slow side with reading. When we were concerned when she was younger, the public school said she was within the average range. Looking back, I think they may have redefined "average" to get out of giving services.

  10. My daughter has epilepsy and when she has seizures there is usually a trigger, like an illness or sleep deprivation. Last Tuesday, we tried Barton for the first time. That afternoon, her seizures started up. She had a number of them Tuesday, and one on Wednesday morning. She has been fine since then, until today. I had put the Barton aside and tried it again today, she had a seizure this afternoon. Can using a certain part of the brain trigger a seizure? We couldn't come up with any other possible trigger.

  11. Okay, so I have had times where my heart will suddenly race, and it comes out of no where. It only lasts a few minutes, but I feel very anxious during those times.

I also feel , daily, like my body is constantly vibrating, almost humming inside.

I have been diagnosed with depression in the past, and slight anxiety. Does this sound like all part of it?

I have had past experiences these last ten years that have put me in "fight flight" mode quite a bit. It's so much better now , but I'm still suffering from the affects I think.

I plan on seeing the dr again soon, but just curious if anyone here has had similar symptoms, and what they did to help them.

    Hello Peaceful Isle,

I was searching the forum today after a trip to the ER on Friday. My first experience was accute, some pain followed by dizziness, racing heart, and shaking. Thought it might be a cardiac event, but they ruled it out and want further Thyroid testing. After that accute event, I've been having episodes like you describe with the vibrating feeling. It is not sparked by anything and comes out of nowhere. I also have a past history of the fight/flight experiences as well. Were you able to figure anything out? I have a doctors appointment for next week, and I already wrote down the thyroid tests that previous posters suggested. Are there any additional tests you would suggest? Feel free to PM if you prefer. Thanks!

  12. The cast was excellent. I was so sad when I got to the end. Murvet's mother was a hoot. I had to stop the show multiple times when I knew something bad was going to happen (usually Petro in action) & go back to it later, lol. I did look some things up during those times & finding out the real story was probably a good thing, as I was able to prepare myself. I won't say anything more about that though - don't want to spoil it for anyone watching!

Anyone else been following this case? I admit to having a morbid fascination with this guy who had it all and threw it away. This will make a dramatic miniseries one day...

His house is still on the market http://www.realtor.com/realestateandhomes-detail/22-Ronald-C-Meyer-Dr_North-Attleboro_MA_02760_M38924-37001

When everything went down with the first murder, the helicopters and press in the area was crazy for a quiet small(ish) town.

  14. Do you want to stay on property? If so, they have Disney's Magical Express that provides transportation from the airport. They also have a transportation system to get to the parks, this is all included with the room price. You also get to schedule fast passes for rides before people staying off site. They have discount codes for room-only discounts, as well as free dining deals at certain times of the year. The forums at disboards.com are a great resource. We've flown Southwest from our area, and book directly on their website. I can help more if you're staying on property, we've never stayed outside of the Disney bubble. :001_smile:
