that your dd had lingering strep issues. Was it because of not finishing the antibiotic? Dh was mentioning the events of our day to someone at work whose sister became deaf from scarlet fever. I don't know a lot of specifics, but she had taken the antibiotic. Can you tell me more about what happened with your dd? I want to be sure I do all I can to resolve this. Thank you!

I knew it when I read the online descriptions because she had every symptom. Dr. put her on an antibiotic. Ds still isn't over his bad virus either; it's been over a week now, but at least he's on the mend.

Maybe you could start a new thread asking that?

Still can't get ahold of the dr.-now the line is busy. I'm almost certain based on what I'm reading online. Sigh.

Dd8 has had a fever (high at times-103 to 105 was the highest) and sore throat since Tues-no other symptoms. I called dr. yesterday and she thought it sounded like a virus, to give it a couple days and see what happens. Last night she popped a rash on her upper chest, now it's spread over her stomach and partly down her arms. It's not too bad looking and fairly light. It looks like a heat rash. Could it just be a result of the virus she has, or something more? I'm waiting for the dr. office to open.) Her symptoms sound like scarlet fever, but I don't know how common that is.

I don't have a blog, and I often wonder how bloggers can have the time and energy to actually DO the things they're documenting in their blog, and THEN blog about it too! I admire those people so much; it's not in my makeup to be able to do that. Don't feel any sense of failure over your short-lived blogging-it's a sign of great wisdom that you realized that for you, your energies will be better spent elsewhere.
The Internet has been both a blessing and a curse to me. I am trying to get my priorities straight right now too, so I can understand your struggle. One thing I know: We will never regret less time spent on the computer and more time spent with our families.

I went to Homeschool Share, and that combined with the other practical ideas have me feeling for the first time that this is actually doable for me! I'm picturing this as an afternoon fun-time together, doing the unit studies with lapbooks from HS Share-I love how they do lit based unit studies so we have a starting point, and yet it's not too overwhelming. THANK YOU! (And I'm sure my children thank you!)

how do you plan it ahead of time? Do you tie these things in with your studies, or just pick a random lapbook or activity to do and do it? I'm rethinking our school day and trying to add more activities, etc., and I have NO clue how to do this!

I just downloaded this-what a wonderful resource and to share it for free is a blessing to us! I love how it's tied in with the WISE guide too. I will pick and choose from this and maybe try to pick out some grammar with some of these selections. Thanks again!

I'm thinking like SL LA does, or Bravewriter Arrow, where they have them do dictation but also dissect the passage in terms of grammar, etc. ( I love the aforementioned programs, but we're not using SL so doing their LA wouldn't make sense, and Arrow is too expensive for what you get.) Is there ANYTHING else like this? This would be for a very advanced third grader. THANKS!

that the thicker tights helped keep my legs warm too!
I have a friend who wears long skirts exclusively and always looks really pretty, modern, and pulled together-never frumpy. She is the most modestly-dressed person I know, and also one of the most stylish.

Now that dc are 8 and 5, I can finally put a little effort in without worrying about bodily fluids on me! I hit some great finds at consignment shops and got some cute knee length skirts with some lycra in them for comfort-J Crew type stuff, some of them a nice A-line cut, and some tops that were more stylish. What really helped the look was all the cute tights available this year-I got grey, black, brown, etc., some with little patterns in the weave and so on. I wore them with flats or Born shoes, which I also found at the cons. shop. The Lord provided well for me in this way. It really does make a difference to feel pulled together and ladylike, modest and stylish, yet comfortable. As for the pointy shoes though-no way!

I ordered "The Prodigal Girl" to start with and I'm delighted to have other titles lined up!
Now, for the George MacDonald books, are they made of up different series to be read in order, or are they standalone?

I can't have caffeine because I am HIGHLY sensitive to it. If I had a quarter cup of caffeinated tea in the morning, I wouldn't be able to sleep that night. Dark chocolate even does this to me. However, mercifully, milk chocolate isn't so bad! I stick to herbal teas, but I could do decaf tea, especially if the mushroom would take most of any remaining caffeine out.
Has anyone here had any noticeable results in any way with the kombucha?

It's about 3/4" thick, like a pot roast, and does have some fat (but not as much as a pot roast.) The recipe I'm using is dump 1/2 bottle ketchup, 1 package onion soup mix (we use Fantastic Foods because there's no MSG), and a bottle of beer over the roast, throw in potatoes and carrots, cover and cook at 325 for 3 hours. (Try this recipe-easy and everyone loves it!) It calls for pot roast though, but would this type of roast work? I hate to ruin a $9 piece of meat! THANKS!

these are all wonderful ideas to get me started! I appreciate the practical suggestions.

I was hoping to find more in that genre, thank you!

books WAAAY back on the (sniff, sniff) old boards. I am really enjoying them. They are nice light reading that is uplifting and edifying!

I just ordered it from my library. I've been looking for something like this for a long time! Yummy!

He seems to be on the mend some as of tonight, after another three hour nap today. The fever finally broke and he's a little more like himself. I'm so grateful for the advice I received here about this! Especially now that this afternoon, dd8 out of the blue spiked a 103.5 temp with a headache so bad she couldn't lift her head off the pillow, plus a sore throat; no stuffy nose. The wisdom I picked up here about speed of onset, etc., really helped me to see that this is something different than ds had since his started more gradually and with a cough and stuffy nose. I appreciate having a place to ask questions and receive answers that help me become more knowledgeable in all facets of my mothering!
Do your children ever get a body rash when they have a fever, or is this scarlet feve

I in NO way meant to insinuate any wrongdoing on your part. I understand because I am an under-reactor too, and our pediatrician is even MORE so! She told me yesterday over the phone that it's probably just a virus because she hadn't seen any strep coming in at all! So I even felt kind of funny calling back today (not that she made me feel that way at all-we love her, and she's always been right before.)
I am so sorry you went through so much, and I was just trying to get a feel for what the situation was so I can make sure I take the right steps in treating this to avoid long-term problems (which I've been hearing a lot about today and it's alarming!) Thanks for posting. I'm glad your dd is doing well now!
