  1. What textbooks are you using that you do not like? Maybe a textbook with a more interactive approach would help or you could add living books to it to break up the information into smaller bits if it is too dry.

    Hi Kissy

We are using Apologia Chemistry. She did Abeka Biology last year with DVDs and a coop lab. The text is okay but I think she is bored and is going very slow. We started this mid-year because we were wrapping up Biology.

    Thanks again

Actually another question for everyone: I noticed other sciences, do we have to do Chemistry and Physics for her high school credits? Or can we do different sciences: Marine Biology; Astronomy? Does it matter as long as it's three years of science? THANKS again

  2. Hi I am interested to know if anyone has put together a science curriculum using real books with science kits for 7th grade.

I would love to do something like this now with my 7th grader. We have tried textbooks and are not happy.

Please share if you have put something like this together.

    THANKS

  3. Quick question how important is it ??? How my child holds his pencil when writing. I have realized that he is holding his pencil/crayon resting on his ring finger versus his middle finger as the writing instruction suggests. I have always written on my ring finger. Should I re-instruct him on holding it on his middle finger? He is 5 soon to be 6. Comments/suggestions welcome! : )

    THANK YOU!

  4. Would those of you who use Truthquest please breakdown exactly how you use it? Do you read to your children out loud the summaries and then have them do the readings? What do you do after they read? Narrations? How about for high schoolers? THANKS for all your help. It is greatly appreciated.

  5. I am not totally clear on what you are saying, but if I understand correctly, the coop is for the Ker, you work with him in the morning, and the coop is in the afternoon 2x per week???

If the above is correct and you really want to do the coop, this is how I would make it work. I would do absolutely nothing else with the Ker on those 2 days other than the coop. I would spend the entire morning working directly with the 10th and 7th graders. You should be able to manage to instruct 2 kids in all material in the morning. Depending on their maturity, I would leave the older 2 at home to work independently on their assignments and only take the Ker and the baby with you.

    HI sorry I wasn't clear....it's really for my 7th grader. I have a K, 7th and 10th grader. Thanks

  6. I have agreed to homeschool together with a friend this year two times a week to do 4-5 subjects (grammar, math, geography, science, health). Now this little co-op per se is just for one of my children (7th graders). I am homeschooling three this year (K, 7th, 10th and 1 year old in tow). My friends homeschooling for the first time (7th). We go to her house to do this. The problem so far when we do this I end up not working with my other two that day. I can teach as well but it is difficult to bring our things there. Also I have a baby. I was going to make this work by doing it in the afternoons so I can work with my little guy K in the morning and my 10th grader can get things done as well. But so far afternoons have become difficult. She has suggested she can come to my home no problem but I am homeschooling the three in a two room area so this would add two more people to the mix. Not sure if that would work. I do not mind doing this really I know the boys like it but I am still trying to make it work. Can you help me figure out a workable schedule or ideas? I do feel we are doing too much together as well. I was just thinking of doing science together and health. I don't know...... My little guy is really excited about school and I want to keep him and me on a schedule and of course my 10th grader has a lot of work to do plus the other subjects my 7th grader has. We still haven't incorporated all our subjects together yet I know once that happens it will be more difficult. I do not want to miss out on any days. Help.....

  7. HI Colleen

Yes I wanted to know how did you set up your notebook and what did you put in each section. I was re reading it and she does mention it within the text but in writing she mentions putting it in the history notebook. I was getting confused or am I getting too perfectionist about it. THANKS for your help.
