  1. Wow...I have no idea. I think I'm too much of a Pollyanna for most of this. I always expect things to get better than they are, and I honestly try to see the good in everyone. I love being happy waaaay too much to be bitter with life. :D

:iagree:There is a lot of sad reality in the pps but just reading the thread title (more than once) nothing sprang to my mind.

ETA - Regarding happy marriages, we have one too. An awesomely, awesome marriage better than I deserve. Dh and I say we have it and there are a few other couples we say have it too, not that we can define it.:)

  2. So anyone going to make this event. I really want to but I haven't brought it up to my dh yet. I always feel guilty asking to leave for the day, I'm not sure why I don't think my dh really minds. I think it would just be me, even if my dh is interested I don't know what we'd do about the kids and I don't really want to take them. Truth be told I'd like to have a break for the day and this seems like a great way to spend the time!:)

  3. FYI - we were in the CVC stage for about a year and a half. You may have a while yet.

I was thinking the same thing. My two girls did progress beyond CVC words, learning long vowels, blends, etc. but still had to sound out each word slowly for a long time, at least a year. My 2nd grader is still doing this but I have thankfully noticed her speed increasing.:)

  4. What I meant by my answer on the other thread is that I don't look at the curriculum and plan extras or deeper lessons. My kids do like projects, experiments, etc. and usually have their own ideas of what they would like to do and I (try to) let them and help them with those things. Often they are not at all related to what we are learning. My elementary age children have a couple hours of free time (at least) on most days and they are not allowed to use that time in front of a screen.:)

ETA- After reading the other posts I'm going to ditto this.

We don't do any of the things on your list, but my kids do plenty of those things in their free time. My philosophy has been to do the basics well and then give them plenty of unscheduled free time to let them explore on their own. I wouldn't survive if I did the "extras" as part of school.
