  1. They have a grout stain that you can get at Home Depot that comes in different shades. I believe it is supposed to seal it at the same time as coloring it. So, my friend cleaned the floor well, without getting on hands and knees and really scrubbing at the grout. Then she applied this stain according to the directions. It looked great when she was done with it and she almost contemplated doing it to her family room and kitchen until she realized how long it would take to do it to such a big area. But hey, the bathroom looks great and didn't take that long.

  2. You know, ours might be LCD. I really don't know. I was far more concerned with how it was installed than I was what sort of screen this is!!!

How can I tell what type of screen it is? The kids are watching a history documentary on the computer right now, I could run to the living room and check!!!

I have no idea how to tell - I had to go look at the box from ours to see if it was 720 or 1080. I just know that we made sure we bought LCD after talking to various people in the know.

  3. I got the Keys to Algebra books for her. She would do her Singapore 6 math 3x/week and the Keys to books 2x. They were simple and introduced the negative numbers right off the bat. She loved that she was doing Algebra. The other nice thing is that they are inexpensive. She has since moved on to Jacobs' and is doing well in it.

  4. And it happens to be a Vizio. Our 27" JVC that dh bought in 1989 finally died, so we went browsing this weekend. I learned a lot. From what I understand, you want LCD, not plasma or HDP. The 1080p is supposedly the best, but also tends to cost more. We ended up with a 32" Vizio, LCD, 1080i. It has a great picture. I can't believe how clear the digital channels are - we don't have cable, just use rabbit ears, and it's incredible! The pictures look like we have cable. We are very happy with it so far. Sears price matched Sam's taking an extra 10% of the price difference off so it was $588. We could have gotten the 42" for only $945.

  5. My kids and I have all been taking it for nearly 4 years. My dh goes when he can. He's a yellow belt (the 2nd belt) and the kids and I are 1st degree black belts. Tae kwon do actually means punching kicking way so TKD is primarily a punching and kicking sport. Our forms have punches and kicks. We also do sparring sets, which would help us defend ourselves should we ever get in a street fight, and self-defense moves, which teach us ways to get out of bad situations like a choke hold, shirt grab, etc. I love the self-defense training. As we have progressed to black belt, our training is also including things from other forms of martial arts. For example to get our first chevron, we learned 12 different wrist grab manuevers like are used in hapkido (I believe). Our master stresses values in class. My kids have grown in so many ways from taking tkd - strength, discipline, confidence. I think martial arts are great and it's about finding an instructor that you like first and foremost, and then style.

  6. The Farmers Almanac do not believe in Global Warming. They said it is Earth going through its cycles. Remember back in the 30's to 50's they thought there was going to be an ice age coming.

Remember who is presenting the Global Warming ideas. The very people that are presenting are wanting to tax us for breathing carbon dioxide into the air. I have heard some really wacky stuff from the global warming people on how they want to tax people due to global warming. YIKES!

My belief is Earth is going through cycles as it always have done. Let's let it take its course.

I think we are awfully vain to think that we alone can control such events. I'm not saying that we, as people, aren't contributing to it and perhaps making it worse, but I do believe that most of it is due to cycles that would happen with or without us.

  7. Which one did you buy? I've got several here. ;)

I got Aesop with the B books. I wasn't sure if I wanted to start with A since ds will be in 5th grade. I think I saw on their website that they recommend B for 5th. Which ones do you have and are you using them? I was contemplating the workbook for older beginners for dd, but I want to check it out before I make any more decisions plus I need to figure out what else I'm doing with her next year.

  8. It's still pretty new, so I can't tell you how it will hold up, but I love it. It's a 2-in-1 pillow that has the memory foam and a traditional type filling. I find that I sleep so much better with the foam, but the foam pillow I had was too thin. This one is a great fit. My dh got it at Penneys, but I know they have them at Kohl's too.

  9. When we were back last year visiting dh's family, we got a room at the Springhill Suites on Weaver Pkwy in Warrenville. It's right off of Diehl Rd very near lots of things. We were very happy with the service. Our room had a queen bed and a sofabed along with a kitchenette.

I used to work on Diehl Rd before we moved, and I agree with the others that any hotels in that area would be fine - Lisle, Naperville, Warrenville, Wheaton are all nice areas. I would not go any further west than Rt. 59 though because there are not so nice parts of Aurora. I'm almost missing our old neighborhood just thinking about it. Hope you enjoy your trip there.

  10. We have one that is just the cooktop with a separate oven. We've had it for 10 years and have no scratches on it. I haven't been able to figure out how people get scratches as it's not like we are super careful about that. It is also so much easier to clean than the gas or electric coil stoves we've had in the past. I just use softscrub on it and it's so easy. I would get another one in a heartbeat.

  11. Center Point elementary school, Center Point, Iowa

    1st grade Mrs. Schaeffer

    Columbia Elementary, Mt. Vernon, Ohio

Can't remember principal's name but I can still picture him

2nd grade Ms. Zullo - I loved her

    3rd grade Mrs. Geiger

4th grade Mr. something or other - he was mean and I can picture him too

    5th grade Mrs. Bugbee

6th grade was in Mt. Vernon Middle School and I had several teachers there

  12. Next year my fourth grader will be using Singapore My Pal's are Here Science grade 4.

This is what we are using this year for 4th grade. It's our first year with it and I really like it because it is very simple and straight forward. I hate doing labs and I don't have to with this if I don't want to. The book presents things in small pieces and the workbook is great. We do the activities most of the time because they are pretty simple, but we have skipped a few if we didn't have things on hand for it or it didn't appeal to us. I'll be getting it again for 5th grade.
