  1. School is usually done around the dining room table. I have most of their day-to-day stuff in a set of drawers there. A bookcase with their books is in the hallway, and a filebox for me is hiding in the dining room. I don't think I'd be able to keep all the school stuff in one room, so why try? I know they would not want to stay in one room.

We have a nice kitchen counter that dd9 works at when I need to help her. If she doesn't need me then she sits at the table, on the couch, on the floor, out on the deck, wherever is most comfortable for her.

Ds17 likes to roam. The only place he's not allowed is in his room - he tends to get distracted by his phone, the game system, or his guitar.

    Works for us.

  2. I like Singapore, but this is one problem we have had, too. If you get it, good. If not, you're struggling. :001_huh:

We ordered the Intensive Practice and Extra Practice workbooks. We don't use them for every lesson or concept, but when we need them we have them.

We got stuck on the concept that with money a whole is a hundred, but with time a whole is sixty or twelve. We just stayed for a few days, doing several pages each day until it clicked.

  3. It's not too late. Go for it.:)

A good coach will teach him valuable skills and encourage him through the rough start-up.

Ds - now 21yo and in colllege - started cross-country running and track when he into ps at ninth grade. He wasn't the star, but he did manage to do well and really enjoyed it. He is athletic but not competitive. Other team sports were stressful for him.

  4. Between my dh and I, we seem to have done okay with our two.

My favorite resource has been How to Raise a Gentleman by Kay West.

It's not so much parenting skills for you as it is life skills for the child.

I had ds16 use it for copywork (still do when his attitude gets rough)

My best friend swears by Bringing Up Boys by James Dobson. It does work for their family.
