  1. My husband grew up in Kenya and Zambia. We lived in Namibia for two years, and in South Africa for a year and a half. We left our hearts in Namibia and have wanted to return since the day we left. Our plans are to go back as soon as possible. At this time our house is for sale and we are getting rid of unnecessary stuff.
  2. We have used Editor In Chief and Math Detective, and will use them again! This year we are going to try out Word Roots.
  3. Oh, yeah. Over $1,000 worth of organizable goodness! Bring it on!
  4. Love it! We used it last year and I have ordered more for this year. I have used another art program before and it didn't work well for us. ARTistic Pursuits has been interesting and fairly easy to use.
  5. We do Easy Grammar and FLL. This last year FLL3 made diagramming sentences relatively painless.
  6. I have the Teacher Guides for levels 1A-4B. I just don't have enough posts logged in to sell them on this site! Oh, well.
  7. I have it. It is free, and I was given a permanent number from the start. Love it!
  8. School is usually done around the dining room table. I have most of their day-to-day stuff in a set of drawers there. A bookcase with their books is in the hallway, and a filebox for me is hiding in the dining room. I don't think I'd be able to keep all the school stuff in one room, so why try? I know they would not want to stay in one room. We have a nice kitchen counter that dd9 works at when I need to help her. If she doesn't need me then she sits at the table, on the couch, on the floor, out on the deck, wherever is most comfortable for her. Ds17 likes to roam. The only place he's not allowed is in his room - he tends to get distracted by his phone, the game system, or his guitar. Works for us.
  9. To clean, I use Pond's in the winter and Noxema in the summer. Oil of Olay year 'round to moisturize. I used the sensitive skin without sunscreen and loved it, but I can't find it anymore. The sunscreen irritates my skin, but not enough to stop using it.
  10. We've used Maps-Globes-Graphs by Steck Vaughn ordered through Rainbow Resources. Love it!
  11. Check out freeneedle.com or just google free purse or handbag patterns.
  12. We have loved using The Elson Readers and will continue through the series. When we find something that works well and is enjoyable we stay with it!
  13. Enjoy your time to yourself. You will have plenty of time to do what needs to be done later.
  14. I have to add that when we were in Namibia and South Africa it was pronounced with a very long 'oo' sound - 'roo' ee boss. Here it is generally pronounced roy' boss.
  15. What about mono? That is how it was for ds.
  16. I like Singapore, but this is one problem we have had, too. If you get it, good. If not, you're struggling. :001_huh: We ordered the Intensive Practice and Extra Practice workbooks. We don't use them for every lesson or concept, but when we need them we have them. We got stuck on the concept that with money a whole is a hundred, but with time a whole is sixty or twelve. We just stayed for a few days, doing several pages each day until it clicked.
  17. It's not too late. Go for it.:) A good coach will teach him valuable skills and encourage him through the rough start-up. Ds - now 21yo and in colllege - started cross-country running and track when he into ps at ninth grade. He wasn't the star, but he did manage to do well and really enjoyed it. He is athletic but not competitive. Other team sports were stressful for him.
  18. Between my dh and I, we seem to have done okay with our two. My favorite resource has been How to Raise a Gentleman by Kay West. It's not so much parenting skills for you as it is life skills for the child. I had ds16 use it for copywork (still do when his attitude gets rough) My best friend swears by Bringing Up Boys by James Dobson. It does work for their family.
