  1. Lisa from Organize 365 has agreed to do a organization workshop the first night of the Cincy convention for homeschoolers who will be in the area at that time. It will be the same venue as her other workshops. I am driving my van over if someone needs a ride. It will be Thursday night and she is talking about setting up a Sunday Basket for those of us who already listen to her podcasts, tackling the incoming paper for those new to her ideas. She was a teacher and her organization style makes so much sense to me.

  2. I was thinking I was crazy or something. I am NOT a computer developer or any like that but I thought there are a WHOLE lot of bugs in this thing. It is so not what I signed up for. I love Rebecca @ WPD but I am so sad and disappointed. The upgrades that they promised are soooo slow coming. I just am at a loss over the whole mess.

From the threads I've read, I (as an ex-software developer) completely agree. I still can't believe they charged money for what was essentially ALPHA level software. That was not beta. Beta software has all functionality present, but might have some bugs to weed out. Alpha software does not have all functionality present and may or may not work at all at any given moment. You don't charge money for alpha software. Even charging for beta when it's not super duper close to being release worthy seems very wrong to me.

This whole fiasco has made me sorry that I purchased the paper WPD planner this year (which I've ended up not using afterall... I really am a total computer gal). I won't make that mistake again. I can't support a company that would charge people to test their alpha level software. :glare:

  3. I really dont know how to express how helpful this board is to me. We had to go through a lot to get our dx and our dr was helpful but didnt give me the 'common words' for these offical dx. I just put together that the math part is what everyone calls dyscalculia and was wondering about the written expression part. All the books, workshops forums refer to dyslexia, dysgraphia and I didnt want to be adding titles that were not true but they seemed to fit what I was dealing with! Thank you ladies.

  4. Now your talking. These all sound wonderful. I dont mind Christian homeschool conferences. Just let me know upfront that is what I am going to and I can decide. Our local conference is Christian and I think they do a great job but they dont pretend to be otherwise. It is getting harder to find workshops where the presenter isnt selling something they are presenting on. It gets old. But the larger conventions are getting so expensive to have vendor space, vendors present to drive customers to their booth to insure they cover their costs. One my favorite HS ppl doesnt do the big conventions anymore because she wasnt covering her costs but I think she is still popular within the HS community.

They could be next to the "Mike's Hard Lemonade" free samples (over 21, of course)

Which is across from the IKEA setup where you can buy bookcases and desks right on site.

"How to accessorize a bookcase with books"

"chocolate and wine: limitations based upon your age, alcohol tolerance, and family size"

"Planning your first trip to IKEA"

"From the kitchen table: classroom setup and organization for all the spaces you do school"

  5. One more thought. We have done both R&S and Shurley. I love the simplicity of R&S, Shurley was to much for me after a while but... my friend with 3 older kids does SHurley for 9th grade to review and complete the grammar season. The kids say the jingles help them remember for their ACT/SAT testing. They didnt love it at the time but all three have come back and said it was helpful. HTH

  6. This post really spoke to me. Thanks Scuff. I have cleaning cycles but the problem for me really is I keep bringing those deals in the house. I need to let somebody else find those deals. I am decluttering my basement and it is just sad. I looks like a have and elementary school :tongue_smilie: .Maybe I will get brave enough to post a picture.

Just keep doing it. Keep purging. Keep getting rid of stuff. Eventually, it changes the way you think about stuff. You get that twinge of want and then think, "But where would I put it?" or you see that cute nick-nack and picture it dusty and in a donation box 3 years from now. Decluttering is a lot of work and needs to be done on a continual basis anyway. The more you do it, the more you begin to guard what comes into your house. After 10ish years of decluttering and living in a small house, I don't have any desire to go garage saling. I just don't care what deals i'm missing out on, because I know most of it is someone elses junk. I have my own junk, why do I want to spend time and money on theirs? So unless i know ahead of time that someone has something that I truly need, I stay home. (and most true needs can be found on CL much easier than a garage sale) so, just keep doing it. The art of decluttering is perfected over time. But the great thing is that your house will be better for it immediately. And eventually you'll be given a bag of kids clothes and imagine it all ober the floor. Your first thought will be, "Where am I going to put all this carp?" And you'll immediately sort and donate half of it before it even makes it into your house.

ETA- We also keep a continual donation box at the bottom of the steps, in the basement. As we live life, if we find something we don't really need anymore, it goes in the box. This helps keep things in check, though major purges are still needed every once in awhile.

  7. I have the sterlite ones and they are very sturdy. I have the other kind for myself but I got it from JoAnns, not so sturdy:( For an older child I think it would be fine but not young ones who may be rough. I like the rack and boxes for the younger children.r It really helps for them to be able to see the work that needs to be done and see the accomplishment of empty boxes.

  8. Make sure her form is correct. I used a Getty-Dubay book that helped me with that but I am sure you can look it up on the net. And then just stay next to her when she is writing and dont let her practice writing in correctly. I really like HWT for preventing letter reversal but I am just starting this with my 6 and 4 yo so not long term experience yet:001_smile:

  9. I dont print it all but I have printed a lot as I go. We have this http://www.workboxsystem.com/printerinformation.html and printing is so very cheap:party:. For me it was so worth it. I use it now for our boxes that they can do when I am working with the older boys. I keep mine in binder right now but I am thinkig of changing over to http://www.1plus1plus1equals1.net/2012/03/behind-the-scenes-storing-printables/
