  1. I went through this with my father too. He would sigh and mutter about how much money my degree cost (I was on scholarship and loans, so I don't know where he got off muttering, but hey!) just to spend my days wiping butts and noses. but he's come around now that my eldest is obviously thriving w/o institutional school. :D
  2. we are finishing up our kindergarten work and i am prepping for 1st grade to start in late summer/early fall. we are secular homeschoolers and i have yet to find a life science program that i can be satisfied with in scope and material. so i am trying to hunt up the resources to cobble together something. i need some good biology related experiment resources in particular. activities that aren't too hard to put together at home, but things that are advanced enough to interest DD. the suggestion in WTM to do some of the activities mentioned in the spines recommeded for animal study are way too cheesy to interest her. she's a very dedicated little scientist and adores scientific method structured projects she can execute herself. any suggestions would be great. evolutionary material is totally fine with us too. thx in advance for any help.
  3. (posting for the first time on this board) just thought i'd add, i've found doing a "unit study" on a particular math topic/concept is very popular with my DD when i run out of math curriculum for her. we've used some of the free downloadable lesson plans from the Core Knowledge Foundation that are written for classroom use and adapted them easily to homeschool unit studies to explore things like time, money, fractions, algebraic thinking, measurement, etc. and sort of beef up our Singapore/Miquon work here and there. ITA with everyone else- let him take it and run with it.
