  1. Print postage from Paypal at home, problem solved. :)

If I would have argued with the cashier or not would probably depend a lot on the price difference. After that, it would depend on how long the line was, how I was feeling, etc etc.

I have pushed things before, going back and forth between the cashier and the manager guy there. I had printed out international postage from home (Canada), but it would not let me insure it online. The USPS site said to purchase the insurance separately at the PO. The cashier and manager guy both said no, they could not do that. I said I wasn't leaving until this package was insured and on its way to Canada. The items inside were pricey and it was curriculum, so the package itself was heavy and expensive to ship. They figured out a way.

  2.

Really? I went back and multi-quoted your posts (and that was only your posts in half of the thread) but I'm not going to throw them in your face. I do think you have the attitude that you are a martyr over this and the first to suffer in this way. There have been dozens of helpful, thoughtful replies and you seem to just want to continue to complain about how hard it is for you and how wrong the Church is. That is your choice.

Moxie is not the one pretending to be a martyr in this thread.

  3. What? Who was rude and condescending to her? All of the Catholics I've seen post have said we totally understand her predicament, we are right there with her, we struggle too, but we have also pointed out that it is up to her to reject or accept the Church's teachings on this. She just continues to complain and freak out.

    What???

I guess caring for her is telling her to do whatever she wants with no guilt whatsoever?

Who? I'm not going back through the thread to find names. You must be reading the tone and content of the posts differently than I am then.

I see rude and condescending, including the post I'm quoting.

  4.

You came on here and complained very loudly about a hot topic that is one of THE most misunderstood teachings of the church, not in a social group, not in PM. Many Catholic women sympathized and tried to help, and they ended up having to defend their faith for it. They took arrows for you, and you still were bitterly complaining.

Tell me to stuff it all you want, I don't care. These women went 6 pages trying to be nice and taking hits for you--for YOU--to help you. Not only to help you understand, when you wanted none of it, but to console you and *counsel* you.

You didn't take any arrows and many women that posted here were rude and condescending. Give me a break!

  5. Wow, there are a lot of unhelpful and rude comments recently in this thread.

I feel bad for the OP and what she is struggling with. She came here for some support and maybe some uplifting advice. Instead she got a bunch of people saying that since they're holier-than-thou, like to suffer, and pretend to be martyrs, the OP should be too.

The RCC doesn't hold an exclusive license to God. That concept is out there for anyone and open to many different interpretations.

I was raised Catholic, both sides of my family are Catholic, and I've known plenty of Catholics in my life, but have never, ever seen any of the attitudes from Catholics that I have seen here on this forum. It turns my stomach.

  6. Alphabetical skills are useful in other areas besides dictionaries. Libraries and bookstores usually put things in alphabetical order. Indexes in the back of books are in alphabetical order, as well as glossaries and whatever other appendixes they want to shove back there. :) I would imagine there are other examples that I'm just not thinking of now.

I feel it's pretty important to know how to how to alphabetize in general.

  7. I forgot about Eragon. That was a bad movie.

I'm curious if you read The Hunger Games before seeing the movie. I advised everyone I knew to read the book before seeing the movie. They did the best they could to explain what the story was really about. But if you were unprepared I can see how it would be a revolting movie to sit through. I remember the first time someone recommended reading that book and described the story. Ack. What kind of a book is that? I had no desire to read it. Now I really appreciate it. I understand it's not for everyone. I cry the first 15 minutes every time.

I have read the books, but haven't seen the movies. I think it's on Netflix now, so I was considering watching it.

  8. I've gone over alphabetical order with my son before and he's done a small amount of dictionary work. Today one of our lessons was dictionary skills. He had six words to look up. He was acting like it was killing him. He is the drama queen. I won't mention how long that took, but it was a while!

Like your son, he would find the first and second letters, then get discouraged, start flipping through pages w/o really looking, flop to the side and give up. Oy!

I have no advice, just wanted to commiserate.

  9. I think it's interesting how I really liked many of the movies people are mentioning. I love Avengers. I watch Point Break every time it's on TV (despite the bad acting and my hatred of Keanu Reeves). Same with the original Red Dawn. I adore Les Miserables.

And who can possibly hate Raiders of the Lost Ark or Rainman? Probably the same people who love the LOTR movies. :tongue_smilie:

Hey! I love LOTR (I even dressed up opening night) and I also love Raiders of the Lost Ark. Rainman however is another story.....

  10. I cannot remember the name, but that movie about the people left behind when scuba diving in the ocean. I kept waiting and waiting and waiting for something to happen. But no, they just bobbed around for hour after hour.

Open Water. When I was in the Navy and we were underway, someone was watching this in our office. I made fun of it the whole time it was on, but then I liked the ending. The vast majority of movies have happy endings, it was nice to see one that didn't for a change. At the time, I didn't know it was based on a true story, which makes the ending very sad and I wonder why they would make a movie about that. I think there was a sequel as well.

  11. I'm such a movie snob and so limit my movie viewing, I can't even think of any that I don't like that also have actors that I normally like.

How about Spiderman? I like Toby McGuire, I like Kirsten Dunst, but the movie was terrible. Too much CGI. Oh, there was some Steve Martin/Queen Latifah movie I was dragged to see in the theatre that was really bad too and I like Queen Latifah.

This quote from George Carlin sums me up pretty well:

"If a movie is described as a romantic comedy you can usually find me next door playing pinball"

ETA: In Spiderman, Kirsten Dunst leaving her job waiting tables in 3' heels. I found that to be so unrealistic that, next to the CGI, it ruined the movie for me.

  12. We have a tower fan in our bedroom. If you get one, do not buy the cheapest model available. It still oscillates, but it makes a horrible noise doing so, so we keep it in a fixed position. :) We bought it last summer when our a/c was dying and our apartment complex was dragging it's feet in replacing it. We like it overall and use it everyday, though we also have a/c.

My mom has a nicer tower fan, a taller one that sits on the floor. She doesn't like to keep the a/c too cool in her house, so that works for her. I think she may have two of them.

  13. We school year round, our school year starts in January. We don't take any "planned" breaks, but we take it easy during regular school weeks. We average 3-5 days of schooling per week. These past three weeks have been three day weeks. :)

I like stretching things out throughout the whole year and not being rushed. If there is something we want to do, we're not tied down to any strict schedule.
