I feel pretty strongly about the dating issue. I believe we will follow more of a courtship model in our family. There is nothing redeemable that I can find about getting your heart broken as a teenager. Passionate love relationships should be for those intent on marriage. That said we will give our dc many opportunities for friendships and group outings with both genders like we do now. But a boy, a girl, and a car won't be happening around here in the teen years:D.

I am confused, do you write on the glass and if you put paper in w/no glass, how does it stay in.:glare::bigear:
You put the paper into the frame like you would a picture and write on the glass. The paper is just background color.

Wow! I have so many unused picture frames I couldn't wait to try this out, and it really works!!! And while digging around in a box of frames I came across an old mirror....Yep, it works great! And it works with both wet and dry markers.
Of course my dd prefers to pick her own color for background:001_smile:This would be a good way to personalize each child's board.

We use both LLATL and Writing Tales. LLATL is very easy and I like the way it is set in units (Book Studies, Journal Writing, Research, Poetry). I love the way Writing Tales does grammar, but dd finds the writitng assignments repetitive. It does get a bit boring doing the same layout all year.

If I didn't use caller ID we would never finish school at a reasonable time. We have a feature called "do not disturb" on our phone. If you are calling you will go straight to the answering machine, but the screen on the phone lights up with the caller ID so I know someone is calling and I have the option of answering....but the phone never rings! I love my phone!

:hurray: I know what you mean about seeing your name on the birth certificate. When I saw my name as birth mother on our dd birth certificate I started to cry...and we had raised her since she was 6 months old! There is something about it being finalized..real..forever.. Congratulations!

I don't give "extra" work to be done in the evening, but dd usually does her reading in her room at night, and sometimes asks if she can work ahead on a subject.

This was listed on the Freebie site. It has lots of timelines, speeches, and general information broken down into time frames. I haven't had time to go through all of it, but it looks pretty good.

I go once a week on our way to co-op class. It's in a college town, which is also full of homeschoolers, so the book section has some real treasures! All kids books are .25 softback and 1.00 hardback, regardless of the shape or size. I've gotten full Abeka curriculum for under $2.00:001_smile:

Hmmm. Alot of "great curriculum, but..." I've looked through a student activity book and the teachers manual, but haven't gotten to do a "hands on" with the student reader. History is one subject which really keeps dd excited about school. She loves activity guides and worksheets, so this just looks so perfect for us. Since we usually curl up and read history together an over abundance of information isn't a problem. Thanks for everyone's input!

Has anyone used this? We have been using SOTW, but I would like to go more in depth for US history next year. I've looked at sample pages and it looks interesting. I like the way it talks about "the atmosphere in which the event occurred, the event itself, and the impact the event had on the future of our nation". Any insight on this curriculum would be greatly appreciated!
