  1. I can agree with everything 3bookworms said in post #13 - sorry, I really must learn how to quote.  ;)  I live about 2 hours north of Toronto on Georgian Bay(Lake Huron) and we occasionally visit Toronto to see the sights and visit friends.  I might also suggest the Ripley Aquarium, Casa Loma, and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra at Roy Thomson Hall.  I didn't notice the ages of your children, but the symphony has a wonderful periodic series of concerts specifically geared for youth.  There's also the Air Canada Center where you can catch a hockey game, or the Rogers Center (next to the CN Tower) where you might catch a baseball game.

And yes, it has been a VERY cold winter - 'freeze your nose hairs' cold!!  :nopity: ;)  AND, we have LOTS of snow, but I live in a snow belt so it is to be expected.  (We are looking forward to spring and maple syrup season!  :) )

See you when you get here!  :seeya:   ;)

  2. I realize, as I begin to research, that proofreading and copy editing are two different things.  I am just wondering if any of you do this professionally, how you got started, what are the pros and cons, what 'education' did you have, etc.  Do you enjoy it?  Which of the two do you do and which do you prefer?  How much time do you spend at it?  Is it lucrative enough to meet your needs?

I am in the very beginning stages of exploring this as an option to earn extra income.  It is only a small idea that has been in the back of my head for some time now, and keeps drifting to the forefront every so often.  I thought I would pick your collective brains for some practical advice before I proceed further.  TIA!

  3. So I thought I would like to make a slow cooker chicken casserole tomorrow, but I want to use only what I have on hand.  I would like to make it hearty and include vegetables as well as the chicken.  I've already been looking through Pinterest and Google, as I am not a great cook and don't have a natural knack for throwing things together.  My experiments don't always turn out so well.   What I want to know is what combination of ingredients I have that you all think would go best together.  Here's what I've got: boneless, skinless chicken thighs, a few cans of cream of chicken/cream of celery soup, milk, several boxes of stovetop stuffing, pasta, spices, cheese, spaghetti sauce, hash browns, bacon, a potato, a sweet potato, frozen mixed vegetables, frozen green beans, frozen corn, and fresh celery.  So!  What do you think?  :001_smile:

  4. A very sad day for us here in Canada, for sure.  Thank you all for your kind words in support of Canada.  Many of us are just in shock about all of it.  There were many who thought 'it couldn't happen here'.  It is so incredibly sad to think of the unarmed reservist soldier serving as an honour guard at the War Memorial, being shot dead in cold blood.  Also sad for the sergeant-at-arms who killed the shooter and had to take a life, but in so doing, saved many.  :(   Just sad in so many ways...  (Many of us were really touched by the truly class act of the Pittsburgh Penguins!)

I bet a lot of things will change now with much tighter security in government offices.  DH and I were saying how glad we were to take a trip to Ottawa last year with then 7 year-old DS and we had the freedom to tour the Parliament Buildings, as that same degree of freedom won't likely exist after today.  :(

  5. Happy Canada Day!  We went to some festivities in our local big park, but skipped the fireworks that just ended.  We couldn't face going back with the heat and all the crowds and trying to get our DS to bed at a decent hour.  Maybe next year.  Maybe we're getting old.  ;)

  6. "Why isn't your child in school?"

    "We educate him at home."

"But he could be in school if you wanted him to be, right?"

"But we don't want him to be.  That's why we educate him at home."

  7. I am trying to decide between two levels of Zaner Bloser Handwriting, and even after examining the online samples for both of these levels, they still look pretty similar to me.  I am just wondering if any of you are familiar with these two levels or have had experience with them and can tell me how different/similar they are.  It is this one:  Zaner-Bloser Store - Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Grade 2C Student Edition and this one:  Zaner-Bloser Store - Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Grade 3 Student Edition.  Thanks in advance!
