If they use the SSN as the insured's ID, you don't really have a choice. Legally, they can't make you give it to them but they can choose not to do business with you if you don't comply.
I'd ask to talk to a manager and see if they have an alternative. I can't imagine this doesn't come up often.

My dh takes the Kirkland brand acid reducer from Costco. It's worked really well for him for over a year.
He also avoids acidic foods (tomatoes, oranges, lemon/lime), coffee, chocolate and mint. All this has helped him a lot. Another great acid reducer is a couple bites of a banana as soon as you feel it starting..

We've been twice without the kids and now that we know what's what, we plan on taking them for an extended tour in a couple of years.
The farthest north we've been is Venice. This last time, we took the train from Venice to Florence, then rented a car there and drove to the place that we were staying. Book your trains at the station, NOT ahead of time. It's the cheapest way to do it.
We've stayed in many different types of places and we found that the cheapest way to go was to rent a small villa near a small town, along with a car, and do day trips. We ate breakfast and most dinners in, and we often packed a lunch to take with us. We'd hit the local Coop (grocery chain) and stock up on fresh meats and breads and fruit. We'd buy coffee and gelato while out in the various towns, so that we could use the bathrooms, otherwise, you pay for public restrooms and they're usually very scary!
When we did eat out, we asked where the locals liked to go, and it was much cheaper than the touristy places and the food was always amazing. In any town, avoid sitting outside in the streetside cafes...they are hugely expensive, even for a coffee or a soda.
There are lots of places that you can go that don't cost anything or don't cost much. Eutruscan tombs are very cool, as are the monastaries (sp?). Of course, all the churches are amazing...you just go in and walk around and no one cares. Many places have areas you can go into without paying and then portions that you need to pay to see. Just walking around all the small towns will take a lot of your time.
We stayed about 20 minutes out of Florence and during our day trips, went to one or two towns each day and even drove to the beach on the East coast one day. It really wasn't too far...maybe an hour and a half away.
We drove through the Chianti region, went to Siena, Volterra, San Gimigiano, etc. I could go on and on.
We can't wait to go back with the kids.
I actually have to run, but if you have any questions, I'd be happy to give you more specifics next time I'm on!

Keys and wallets go on top of the fridge in a bowl. Cell goes in a small bin for electronics (phones, rechargers, ipods, etc.) on the counter below an outlet. Mail or papers go in a magazine holder right next to the electronics bin...it's still on the counter but neatly contained.

Happiness is...chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate while on a 'girls only' weekend at the beach. I leave on Friday and can't wait.

Okay, I'm seriously jealous!! I love Italy.
I would look online, like Melody said.
I would happy to do the research if you let me come and be your makeup/hair/toga artist!!

I've done both. I prefer to give them the work needing to be done for the day and I only set a timer if they're dragging it out.
My kids get 1 hour of 'screen time' per day (if they don't take it, they lose it) and they can't have it until all their school work and chores are done. This is a huge motivator.

Me too....dates and gym nights with dh! I also go to two monthly Mom's Night Out's. One with a small group of friends and one is a bigger homeschool group.

Two of my best friends growing up are in 'the business' so I've met a few people through them. One of them was married to Dustin Nguyen from 21 Jump Street and I met the cast a few times. We also had them over for dinner often, and Dustin would tend to bring friends who happened to be in town, so we never knew who we'd end up with at our dinner table. I've visited a few movie sets with the other friend, and saw, but never met some of the stars.
The most famous person I knew was Johnny Depp...before he was somebody.
My dh met John Travolta without me once. He started chatting with my dh in a hotel lobby in Seattle.

I second this!! My ds who always hated to read, listened to the first of these books on tape, got hooked and ACTUALLY READ the rest of the series!!

We belong to a HS activity group that gets together for PE, games and fun classes (like Art), as well as outings.
There are also lots of places in our area that have HS days...bowling alley, roller rink, lasertag, etc.

Are you in the Portland area Moira? Do you belong to any of the local groups? Maybe we've met!

We did a 'curriculum chat'. We all brought our favorite curriculum, or anything that we thought others might want to see, laid them out on tables (by grade) and everyone spent an hour or so checking the books out.
I was able to see a couple of things that I really wanted to check out but never had a chance to actually see. I also found a couple of things that I didn't know about, and we're now using.
We spent the second hour talking about curriculum and other assorted homeschooling issues. Of course we all brought some goodies to share too.
It was a fun evening.

Got the house cleaned up, and decorated for my ds's Wii party (which is loud and going on right now!)

We store flour and sugar in buckets that seal tightly. Believe it or not, my MIL asked the bakery at her local grocery store for their butter cream icing buckets and they gave her a bunch. They work great.

I've had it done AND worked for a dentist and I wouldn't be put out. They are generally not as gentle when the people are put out, so recovery can be a bit more painful. (I'm not saying that his is always the case, it's just what I've seen).
I was awake for mine, and it was no problem at all.
What's your favorite quick dessert to make?
