  1. I plan on having my twin sons, rising juniors,  take the PSAT this fall mostly as practice for the SAT's. They have done very few standardized tests and my goal is for them to feel as comfortable as possible. Any suggestions for how to prep this summer? Is one study guide better than another? How much time per day for study? Khan academy? Any suggestions from those who have gone before would be so helpful for us. Thank you so much!

  2. I wanna play!! Are we doing this in September? I try to get in 10,000 steps daily. We were at the beach last week and I didn't walk nearly as much as I thought I would ( helping to watch 8 children on the beach may have had something to do with that;) but one night I was literally steps away from hitting it and so I just walked around the bed in our room. Seriously.

  3. I did a brief search but didn't come up with anything so thought I'd ask. What are your experiences with Plan to Eat? In my ever growing quest to make my life easier, I'm considering trying it but don't necessarily want to pay $$ or go to all the trouble of importing recipes if it's not helpful. Anyone? Thanks:)

  4. If you limit the electronic time they have, they'll be forced to do something else. My boys would spend all their free time with electronic devices/WII/computers if allowed to. It's great to see them play, build, create in real life again, instead of on an electronic device. Oh, and getting outside and being active is my first suggestion.

LOL! I'll tell my boys that I want them to go outside and do something and then I'll see them in the driveway playing with...................Legos!!

  5. Our entire immediate family, 17 in total from 16mos to 53, are vacationing in the Outer Banks next week. This is a first for us and we are so excited. I know there are tons of things to do, restaurants, etc. I was hoping those of you who have been there before would share your favorite restaurants ( date night and family oriented), coffee shops, ice cream shops, shop shops:) places to take the kids and the like. We are in Corolla but are happy to drive anywhere within 30-40 minutes. Thanks!!

  6. We did. I just added the stories in FMoR to our days as a read aloud and then used some of the questions from the teacher's guide to discuss them a little. I did not require them to know the history for the quizzes or tests though. The kids really liked the stories.

This is pretty much what we did last year. I read a chapter on Mondays, discussed a little and that was that. No quizzes or tests. My boys enjoyed the stories.

  7. We've started "school lite", just enough that I can feel justified calling it a school day but not enough to cause a melt-down on anyone's part:). We will be going on vacation next week and then will ramp up to full speed the week after that. And my boys were surprised to find out that they are now officially 7th graders:)

Edited to add: Pay no attention to the siggy, have to change almost everything in it.

  8. We pick up the boys from camp this morning! Cannot wait to see them. I expect them to be very tired ( and happy, I hope) and for me to have a day full of doing their laundry;)

I did get some school planning accomplished this week as well as fun things with dh. We took a daytrip to Annapolis, went out to dinner with friends and played mini-golf last night.  Oh, and watched Les Mis;) Now, it's back to reality.

    Pick up boys

    Do LAUNDRY!

    Some school planning

Dinner: Grilled Pork Tenderloin, grilled corn on cob and lemony potato salad (directly from this month's Southern Living)

Now it just needs to stop raining :glare:

    :grouphug: Jean :grouphug: Praying

  9. Good Morning! Wow, you all are up and going for a Saturday:)

Melissa, You did in one day what would take me a week to accomplish!  :hurray:

Tammy, safe travels and best wishes on your property/house hunt. Let us know how it goes.

I get to stay home today!! Each day this week required me to go out for something and I am so not a "runner". I like being home.

    Walk

    Bake blueberry muffins

    Chili in crockpot for dinner

    Mop kitchen floor

Organize and start to pack boys things for camp next week

  10. Good Morning!

    Done:

    Laundry in dryer

    Bible study

    Walk

    Breakfast

    To Do:

Package sold curriculum and take to PO

Pick up boys from my moms

    Kohls, Target, Costco, Library

Dinner: Chicken tenders, mac/cheese, peas and coleslaw

  11. I actually timed myself today to see how it takes me to do certain tasks. I cleaned two full baths, one half bath, folded and put away two loads of laundry, dusted the master bedroom, vacuumed the downstairs, made two trips to the outside trashcans and walked up to the mailbox. I did all that in about an hour and a half. The boys were at my parents and dh was not home so I had no interruptions. And I was motivated to accomplish everything before lunch so I could sit by the pool. :coolgleamA:

On a typical day I think I spend about 2-3 hours on inside house stuff. If I work outside, it's probably another 30 minutes or so.

  12. Thanks for the suggestions! I'm making a list:) We've lived in south central PA all our lives so we've been to Gettysburg, Philly, Inner Harbor etc. many times. Love them and will go back. Some of these suggestions are places we've not been to or even heard of, thank you! I'm going to run them past dh. I'll let you know what we decide on. Annapolis is also in the running; we were there about 8 years ago and loved it. It might be time to revisit;)

  13. Good Morning! It's another gorgeous day. An extremely rare phenomenon is happening today: I will have the house to myself.  :hurray:  My mother is coming this morning to take the boys overnight and my husband (who works from home) will be out on business all day. It's so unheard of that I have a hard time believing it's actually possible.

    Done:

    Bible Study

    Walk

    Breakfast

    Laundry in washer and dryer

    To Do:

    Replace sheets in Master

    Clean Master Bed and Bath

Clean half bath and boys bath

    Dust and Vac

    Finish laundry

My goal is to have all that done by lunch so I can relax by our pool all. by. my. self:)

Dinner:  Will be out, of course, since boys are away. I'm thinking Macaroni Grill since we have a gc there.

    Have a wonderful day!

  14. I know there are at least a few of you who enjoy doing this; any and all suggestion considered:)

Details: Our youngest sons will be at sleep away camp next week and I thought it would be nice for dh and I to go away just for the day. I would like to stay within a two hour drive of south central PA (Harrisburg area), thinking on the lines of a nice, quaint town with shops, restaurants, etc. Anything historical and or near water is a bonus. I would prefer to just park the car and walk for most of the day. Can't wait to hear what you come up with:)
