  1. Thank you! It seems most like Derek Owens for Physics. How many hours per week did your children spend on the class? I know a cheaper option would be Kinetic books which the umbrella school could order for me so I can get the solutions manual! Any thoughts on KB principles of physics compared to Derek Owens. Thank you Kelli
  2. Hi my DS is starting his senior year and I have yet to figure out a Physics class for him. He needs it to be Algebra based as he has not taken Calculus. I was going to do Thinkwell but it uses Calculus. It has to have a way for me to asses his knowledge since we are under an umbrella school. I need to keep him accountable, but I can't teach physics! He is taking his math and english at the local university. He can't take college physics there until he takes his math as it is a prerequisite. Any suggestions? Thanks KelliNC now in Alaska
  3. How do visual latin and latin prep differ, other than delivery methods? Is one grammar based or vocab, immersion? Is one way better than another? TIA Kelli
  4. We looked at Lukeion but the class times did not work for us. I do not like Rosetta stone because the software crashes often on our computer and even set to focus on reading and writing Latin it is mostly spoken you listen and repeat. I will order the Galore park Latin Prep and see if that is more tolerable. Thank you Kelli
  5. His Grammar is strong but mine is not. I was hoping we would learn together. For now he just wants 2 years hs foreign language. Basically 5 hours a week. I would say step by step. I noticed that Latin prep has books, workbooks and answer books per level are all three needed? TIA Kelli in AK
  6. We have been using Rosetta stone for latin and we are not thrilled. I have read through many posts. Would Latin prep, visual latin or Wheelock's be better for my ds16 and myself to learn latin? Thank you Kelli in AK
  7. This is my second year homeschooling my DS 16. He asked me to after 9th grade in PS. He will be taking a healthcare class at a local school for 11/12 graders since he has a strong interest in this as a career. We are in AK, moved here last summer! He has taken all the AK state testing and passed with advanced in everything. I used write at home last year and that was positive for him. I feel awful that I don't know what he needs to cover since he went to public and private school most of his life and has always been in Honors classes. I think Lightning literature, LL with lord of the rings and teaching the classics all sound great. Honestly, I don't think I know how to analyze literature so what would be effective for him and doable for me? I have read many books for pleasure and in College but literature pro I am not. DS will be taking, thinkwell Chemistry + labs, Chalk dust Geometry +ALEKS, Healthcare practices, Rosetta Stone Latin, American Government. He is also studying for PSAT/SAT and wants to take some AP tests in May. I would love some suggestions. Kelli in AK
  8. I am trying to figure out this year, only my second for my 16 yo son. Last year was not a great experience. I want to do it more like college classes to help prepare him for the discipline and organization that is so important. TIA Kelli now in AK
