  1. Has anyone figured out how to get to the instant que that we set up on Netflix? So far, I can only scroll through the movie selections on the TV but can't figure out how to find the instant que. I remember reading something about it on another thread but that was before we got our Wii.

    Any help appreciated :tongue_smilie:

I had trouble with that, too. Yes, you go to your netflix account online and when you go to the tab marked Queue, you'll notice two tabs: DVD and Instant. When you find a movie you'd like to watch, you'll need to select In Instant Queue so it goes into that list instead of your regular queue. Then I just go to my Instant Queue and edit it so the movie I want to watch is moved up to #1. Then it shows up on my Wii movie menu.

I love the watch instantly option! The only thing I wish it had was closed captioning, but oh, well, maybe another 10 years. ;)

Oh, wait, do you mean you can't find the instant queue list on the netflix menu on TV? That's usually the first category. Do you have any movies put in your instant queue on your netflix account? Maybe that's why?

  2. My 17yo dd recently started Trinessa bc, and I'm concerned. We'd been thinking of starting her on bc for a while but kept putting it off in the hopes that her cycles would become regular. We decided to give it a go because they still weren't regular, she recently started dating, and she also hoped it would help with her skin. I know there's a period of adjustment, but I'm really worried because in the short amount of time that she's been on Trinessa her moods have just been giving me whiplash. This is a girl that's been pretty level-headed and easygoing, able to handle stress and change, and generally enjoys life. But it seems like since she's started the pill, she loses her temper a lot, is reduced to tears over things that didn't phase her before, and is just not very happy. Her periods are also much heavier, more painful, and last longer. There's also some breakthrough bleeding.

I've googled Trinessa and am reading all these horror stories, so my immediate reaction is to get her off of them. I think I'll be making an appointment to see if we can switch bc. I was on birth control for several years before getting married and don't remember anything like this. Anyway, I thought I'd ask here to see what your experiences have been and what suggestions you might have. TIA,

  3. Personally I think Wangari Maathai (winner from 2004) was a brilliant choice, for her identification that diminishing natural resources often leads to civil strife, and her work in the Green Belt movement of tree planting and plant-growing especially among women in Kenya. I think that is an extraordinary insight into the nature of peace and what could lead to harmony on earth. And that "regular people" can have a huge impact.

Incidentally there are two nice children's picture books about her: Wangari's Trees of Peace and Planting the Trees of Kenya. I'd imagine she would be a fantastic choice of a person for students to study, especially those who are into CM in some incarnation. The importance of nature study, indeed.

I remember her! I had to google her name to be certain, but she was in the Planet Earth series. I forget which one/s, but I liked her. She was memorable.

Btw, when I googled her to be sure I had the right person, I found a Time article where previous Nobel Peace Prize winners Wangari Maathai and Muhammad Yunus discuss Obama's win.

  4. Well, Kissinger is the first person that comes to mind when I hear all the gasps surrounding Obama's award. Not that I have an opinion one way or another about Kissinger and his award. I just vaguely remember some of the same gasping about Kissinger.

In case the link is a no-no, it's a Newsweek: Wealth of Nations blurb and here's the list:

    Elihu Root

    Woodrow Wilson and Leon Bourgeois

    Henry Kissinger

Menachem Begin, Yasir Arafat, Jimmy Carter

I'm off to find something else more gasp-worthy, in my own humble opinion. :tongue_smilie:

  5. I love your poll choices. :D <snip>

Honestly, we are in our sixth year of homeschooling and at one time or another most of those have been an issue for us. Probably the hardest this year is finding our groove. We've had a lot of little life interruptions that have kept us from getting in five good days of school each week. :glare: <snip>

    Thank you.

And, yes, I can say each of these options has been something with which we've dealt during our homeschool years.

Isn't it funny how our priorities can change?

  6. 5th and 6th grade I remember reading the Trixie Belden series because of a friend. Another friend got me started on the Phenwick Women series.

My mom read a lot of romance so I started reading those. Celeste de Blasis (Wild Swan trilogy, The Proud Breed, and The Tiger's Woman), William Stuart Long (The Australians series), Clan of the Cave Bear series, Wagons West, VC Andrews, and others I can't remember for certain. I think they included Phyllis A Whitney, Kathleen Woodiwiss, and Victoria Holt.

My dad read scifi, but I didn't read as many of his books. I do remember reading a lot of Stephen King and Dean Koontz.
