  1. Your son is making great connections by saying the duck and boat go together. Please praise him for his clever thinking (maybe you already are) because he is seeing things a different way and you don't want him to lose that ability to think beyond or outside the lines. However, remind him that you are looking for words that sound the same and that boat and duck don't. Read a lot of rhyming books like Cat in the Hat and other Dr. Seuss books, especially the nonsensical ones. Rhyming can be hard, especially at a young age. I say a lot of rhyming things for fun when I talk to my kids and then ask if they noticed anything special about my sentences. (I wore a hat to bed. I wore it upon my head). There are a lot of printables for rhyme I think at prekinders.com. Playing those games helped my daughter.

  2. DD4 plays about twice a week, but when we had the trial she played everyday. I wanted to make sure it was worth paying for and the only way to know was to let her be on the computer. I am not normally comfortable with so much computer time. It is great, but can be frustrating when she get to something that really challenges her. When that happens, I try to replicate the game or skill with hands on manipulatives and that usually helps her the next time she gets to play.

  3. We use Montessori math and my daughter has advanced to elementary level math and I am using a mix of the free albums here http://mondorfment.blogspot.com/2010/02/6-9-elementary-montessori-albums.html and here http://www.moteaco.com/albums.html, but honestly it is so much work that I am just switching to Rightstart C. With a two year old in tow, I need it all laid out for me with a script. :-P
