I CAN'T seem to decide what to use for the coming year (which is coming around the bend too fast!!)
I have rising 9th and 7th grade Dd's. Both need geogprahy. I can't decide whether to have 9th gr Dd focus on geogprahy and then do the traditional ps history/social studies approach for the rest of high school or go with my original plan of a 2nd cyle through history over then next 4 years, hoping to include geography.
Does MFW or TOG cover geography??? A little or well??
I wanted to do the history together with both Dd's but I am not sure which route to go and how to cover enough geography if we don't dedicate a year to it.
Thanks for any advice or insights!!

Thanks! That is a great idea! It crossed my mind to skip some of the review sections. Yes, it is too much to do two, esp. over the summer. We will just do 2-3 new lessons and one review instead.
Thanks for the help everyone! It is always so helpful to get other's opinions, even for just the sake of affirmation.
Have a blessed day!

Dd is behind in her CLE math. I am trying to have her get caught up through the summer by trying to have her do 2 lesssons a day:tongue_smilie:...if possible..and even then she will barely finish. She is one grade level behind as it is already so I don't want to have her more behind than that. She can always do algebra in 9th, giving her one more year to get caught up.
Just needed some thoughts....isn't the 1st book in each level purely review? So if Dd is working finishing up a level over the summer, can she skip the 1st book of the next level since she did not take the summer off from it?
(There may be only a 2 week break from it from the time we go on vacation until we start school again.) That way, she will have a little less catching up to do.
Thanks for any thoughts!

We started and stopped Latin (Prima Latina and LC1) over the years but never stuck with it due to lack of time.
DD is starting 9th grade in the fall and wants to study Russian for probably all 4 years.
But I want her to study Latin for at least one year, maybe two. (We will have to make the time!)
First of all, is one year still beneficial?
Secondly, what program would you recommend for a beginner in Latin at the age of 14? We prefer ecclesiastical.
Anyone have anyfeedback on Rosetta Stone Latin? We are planning on RS for Russian.
Thank you and have a wonderfull day!

Thanks, LUV2EDU, for the info.
So it looks like 3 CD's overlap between the two packages and you get 2 CD's of vocab instead of 4 with the SAT package. Makes it hard to decide which route to go.
I guess I will call them this week to get some advice.
Thank you!

Can anyone please give me the lowdown what to get?
I haven't been to their website in a long time and it looks like they have different sets...one especially for SAT/ACT test prep, and the reg. Wordsmart Vocab CD's. What should I get? Can anyone clarify the difference pls? I would prefer to cover all our needs with one set, as they are so $$$$$.
I have a dd going into 9th and a dd going into 7th.
Thanks!

There is always so much to learn!!! ;-)

Ah-ha!!! You learn something new everyday!!! ;-)
Thank you!!

I do that too, but most of the time, they have expired. Plus it takes time to sort through it all.
Thanks again! :)
Have a great day!

PS- Can anyone tell me, who is not well versed in all the tricks (I only know the basics here!), what is the easiest way to watch for the replies on one's posts??
I email it to myself and check that way.
Thanks!

Thanks! Worked for me too! And the discount turned out to be EXACTLY what the shipping was!!!!!! Funny!!
BTW, where did you get the code???
Thanks so much! :-)

Maybe as we get closer to Memorial day with all the sales/promos....CBD they probably doesn't have free shipping coupons all the time.

Anyone have a CBD coupon code for free shipping?
Thanks!

Thanks everyone!! Wow, looks like I will be busy! We have read many of the books mentioned but there are also others I haven't heard of and we havent' read. I will check them out.
I am excited about the Facts about Fiction site. Thanks, Amy! Will save that and check it out!
My girls loved the 4 book series by Sarah Maxwell, who is/was homeschooled. They have their own business/website called Titus 2.
My younger Dd was especially inspired by the Christian character, kindness and obedience portayed through the family in the book.
Thanks again everyone!

We LOVED That Quail, Robert!! ( or whatever it is called!) Great book! We were cracking up so many times, especially in the "chase" scene! Thanks for reminding me we have that book!
Thanks everyone for the lists. We have many of them but there are others I will look up.
Thanks! :-)

Anyone have any suggetions or lists?
Something wholesome and hopefully character-building. Even many of the Christian kids books have romance in them.
My Dd 13 LOVES horse books but they too have mention of romance in them. Are there any out there? Some mention of general old-fashioned courting is OK.
It seems in order to find anything, we need to get books on a much lower grade/reading level. Our girls are 11 and 13 and love to read! But it seems so hard to find "good books'!
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a site out there that lists and rewiews/rates books based on things like violence, romance, language?
Thanks!

I am confused. I looked on the CLE website at the LA page. It shows Sunrise LightUnits to 8th grade and then nothing til 12th grade.
What did you mean by English I and English II? In what curriculum?
I didn't realize it stopped at 8th...or does it? Actually, I think I saw samples for 9th grade LA on the CLE yahoo group....or maybe I am mistaken.
Dd does need to focus on Writing and Lit but I don't want her to forget all the grammar she ahs learned all these years! And without review, she will!
Thanks for any clarification!

9th grade: Geography or History cycle #2 with TOG or MFW
in High School and Self-Education Board
Posted
I really appreciate your reply!
I am strongly considering MFW. Do you think the geography included in MFW be enough to fulfill the geography requirements (isn't it one year/1 credit? ) if you used their program over the 4 years (when they come out with years 3 & 4)?
I am new to the whole high school requirements and transcript thing, credits, etc. So all this is a bit overwhelming!
Thanks again!
