  1. Okay, I know that Mesopotamia, Babylon are present day Iraq and the battles were over this land. But who were the Sumerians, the Hittites, the Akadians, the Syrians,.... Where did they come from, what language did they speak? I'm just trying to get a handle on them so that they're not just names to memorize. And who are they today? Can anyone help? Please? Thanks!
  2. I'll be teaching this for a c0-op and am trying to figure out the best way, or the way that will make the most sense to me and the kids. Do you teach chapter after chapter? Or do you group the chapters by civilizations? If so, does anyone have a list or schedule of how you've grouped them? I'm so lost! Please help!:001_huh:

  9. I'm a complete history newbie, about to teach sotw 1. So I'm thinking about teaching by civilizations rather than chronologically. So, what are the civilizations I'm looking at? Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome obviously. Ancient China/India. Then how do I group the rest? Sumer, Assyria,....etc.... that part confuses me. Thank you for any help.
  10. I'm starting to look over sotw 1 for next year, and just looking it over, i'm getting confused! the medes, the persians, the assyrians,.... how do you help your child keep track of who's who and which empire conquers another? any visuals? I guess that's what I'm looking for, some sort of visual to track what's going on. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

  14. I'm looking for a book or a curriculum for a co-op class, possibly kind-1st grade or 1st-3rd grade. Does anyone have any suggestions? It'd be a 12 week class and I'm looking for lots of hands on learning, things that wouldn't necessarily get done at home, if you know what I mean. :tongue_smilie: Thanks.

  21. Does anyone have any advice specifically for my 7 year old and my 2 year old? thanks!
  22. Okay, I have two questions. First, I have ds7 and ds 5. They're shots (up to 4 years) are up to date. Now for their boosters they're supposed to get between 4-6, are they necessary, or can they be delayed even after 6? ds7 hasn't gotten his three boosters. Second, ds2 is behind on all his shots. last time, doctor told me he had to get certain shots (b/c he's older than 2 now) for them to be effective. i forget which ones, may Hib or DTaP. Should I keep giving him his shots spaced out, or can I wait until he's three or even four to continue. Tried looking for alternate schedules on the web but none talk about the 4-6 year range, and all the alternate schedules just space out the shots; they don't wait until an older age. Hoping that some of you will have info or experience to share. Thank you.
