  1. Okay, I know that Mesopotamia, Babylon are present day Iraq and the battles were over this land. But who were the Sumerians, the Hittites, the Akadians, the Syrians,.... Where did they come from, what language did they speak? I'm just trying to get a handle on them so that they're not just names to memorize. And who are they today? Can anyone help? Please? Thanks!
  2. I'll be teaching this for a c0-op and am trying to figure out the best way, or the way that will make the most sense to me and the kids. Do you teach chapter after chapter? Or do you group the chapters by civilizations? If so, does anyone have a list or schedule of how you've grouped them? I'm so lost! Please help!:001_huh:

  9. I'm a complete history newbie, about to teach sotw 1. So I'm thinking about teaching by civilizations rather than chronologically. So, what are the civilizations I'm looking at? Ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome obviously. Ancient China/India. Then how do I group the rest? Sumer, Assyria,....etc.... that part confuses me. Thank you for any help.
  10. I'm starting to look over sotw 1 for next year, and just looking it over, i'm getting confused! the medes, the persians, the assyrians,.... how do you help your child keep track of who's who and which empire conquers another? any visuals? I guess that's what I'm looking for, some sort of visual to track what's going on. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.
