  1. And in the process still managed to cut the governor's expenses by 80%?

Overall, Palin's travel spending pales in comparison with that of predecessor Frank Murkowski, who charged $463,000 for air fare in 2006. Palin charged $93,000 in 2007.

Sooooo....if I were to get a job in a department store ....and thanks to my talent I was able to prevent losses in the tune of $100,000 dollars.... would it then be ok for me to start taking office supplies and discretionary spending money for my own personal use...trips to the spa...lunches...whatever. I mean, it is money that *I* am allowed to use...to my discretion.... and I *did* save the company thousands of dollars.... so isn't it my right?

  2. If you're looking for something to do this weekend you might want to go see the Impressionist art exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum before it ends on Sept. 21.

We went last weekend and dh and I enjoyed it. (Our dc liked seeing the real cars suspended from the ceiling more than the paintings, but oh well...) When we entered the exhibit area I was wondering why I was asked to carry my (small) backpack purse in my hand rather than wearing it on my back. Then I understood when I saw how close you can get to the paintings...I had expected to see those velvety rope things to keep people at a safe distance, but there weren't any! (And if nudity would be an issue, those paintings are in a separate room in case you want to skip them. My dd is loud and opinionated so I kind of wish we had!)

Another idea: Tomorrow (Sat. Sept 13) from noon-3pm "The Salmon Return" is going on at the Olympic Sculpture Park/PACCAR Pavilion with activities for kids. (Free/Event will be indoors in case of bad weather) The Seattle Art Museum is one of the sponsors so there might be more info. at their website

    Have a great weekend! :)

Very cool....thank you for the info!

  3. Exactly. We need to reject this type of socialism if we want to promote free enterprise and personal responsibility. Our government is already bloated enough. An Obama presidency would make it worse. Beware the kind man bearing gifts. There is a price.

Why would anyone want to work harder and harder for less and less? Regulations already discourage small businesses from hiring employees. I have been a small business owner. If you have ever owned a small business you know what I am talking about.

Bigger government, less incentive to start businesses and create jobs, more citizens dependent on government. This is not the America that our founding fathers envisioned.

Again...MOST of the extremely rich....do NOT work harder and harder...

  4. Everyone pays the same tax when they make purchases. When you buy things taxes are collected into the system. Those making below X would get X amt each year to cover that.

Here in WA we pay over 8.6% sales tax....and that is just in state taxes...how much more would you think we should pay...because, I gotta tell you...I think the idea of sales tax, to replace income tax, sounds INSANE! It would have to be around 30-40% to even come close!

  5. :iagree: just because you make more you be taxed more? Everyone deserves to keep what they earn. I really wish one of the candidates would support the Fair Tax where everyone pays the same tax on what you purchase. You keep your federal Tax and Social Secruity, have your own SS savings worked out and pay the feds as you make your purchases. I know this is over simplified but it's something like that from what I understand.

No federal income tax? How do we pay for Interstates...our military...our border control...our government officials...schools...

  6. What happens when success is penalized?

Then our society would be more balanced. And I don't know if I agree that it's penalizing the successful... for a couple of reasons...a) I don't actually consider inherited fortune a matter of success.... and b) I think the folks that can afford to... have an obligation to society to pay more than those who cannot. But, then, I'm on the same point in the socio-economic-political scale as Ghandi.

  7. I am not talking about ALL the time.... but in cases where they made a decision KNOWING the risks of that decision.... like during a mandatory evacuation... or climbing a mountain.... or any number of other scenarios that my sleep deprived brain cannot think of at the moment...:glare:

In THOSE cases....the rescue of those people...while not only being EXTREMELY dangerous for the rescuers... is also VERY expensive. Who should have to pay for that?

  8. If it is any consolation....even when I am completely even keel hormonally.... most of what Susan Sarandon says (other than when she is playing a part)....makes me want to smack her.... LOL She can just be soooo absurd!

And I am not PMSing....and I think kicking the principal sounds completely justified! :tongue_smilie:

And chocolate is good...it is your friend...have some for me!! :D

I swear, I am on a TEAR today.

First, Susan Sarandon made a completely idiotic remark on TV and I found myself trying to find her email so I could figuratively smack her up the side of her smug head.

Then, I read about the situation with the school and not allowing the mother in and I'm finding myself wanting to track the principal down and kick him, hard.

I think I may go find some chocolate and stay away from people....

  9. CONGRATS DORAN!!!

I have to tell you though....I'm a pretty laid back person...and I am definitely not one that gets worked up about stuff....(I think that some think I am high strung due to my posting style, LOL, so I wanted to clarify....) so, yeah, totally a, 'take it in stride' kinda gal..... but we are planning on buying a house in the late fall, early winter....and the very thought of it gives me little anxiety attacks....LOL....buying a house is just sooooooo freaking stressful! So, buying a house as quickly as ya'll are....would send me screaming to the nearest dark corner....where I would be found curled up in the fetal position and rocking back and forth while mumbling incoheritantly.... How's that for a mental image....:tongue_smilie:

  10. I'd never heard that before! I'd be interested to know if that is the case.

And I fully support my nephew - my brother's only son - who is now serving his 3rd tour in Iraq.

I'm hoping he'll soon be home!! We miss him. :(

I'm fairly certain that it is true....however, upon ACTUALLY viewing the video...I see that he is (allegedly) a veteran....and not likely active duty considering he has lost a leg....

  11. I hope this board will not deteriorate to religion bashing.

I think the original poster was posing a sincere question about how she was supposed to be reading the Greek Myths, a question that I have often had as well. There have been some fabulous replies about looking at them through a different worldview lens, which have been very helpful.

Using such strong and hurtful adjectives, however, about one's God, I believe are not necessary.

FTR, I was not bashing anyones religion....I have read the old testament....and that is exactly how I see the God represented there....I am not the only person to have stated this...it is a commonly stated opinion...even by many Christians...

  12. Well....tea is good for you...you know...anti-oxidants and all...:tongue_smilie: It is good for your physical AND emotional well being....so even when you really can't even stand the thought of tea....you should still have some anyhow. And *USUALLY* once you take the first sip or two....you start to remember that you do actually like tea... sometimes you find that you forgot just how much you love tea!
