We are taking a 2 wk. vacation to San Diego. We live in the Denver area. We want to stop and see lots of stuff in between-we are planning our time for that. We're doing a "half circle" tour, meaning, we aren't going to be doing Grand Canyon/Arizona this time around. So, we will be driving through Utah, a tiny bit of Nevada, and into San Diego. I know we want to see Zion and Bryce. I would love input from those of you who've made this type of trip and what places you went to and where you stayed. It would be fun to NOT stay at a hotel every night, and NO, we aren't bringing a tent-we could bring sleeping gear, though, if there were some fun cabins to stay at. Where are some good places to stay that are reasonable on the budget. Any input would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!

Opinion - Was this too much of an assignment?
Karie replied to Niffercoo's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I assigned that in one sitting. My son says the same thing when he doesn't want to spend time working on something. Now that he's in Algebra, I think he'd rather do those easy review sets :001_smile: -
Anyone have this scheduled out?? With all the schedules that are floating around on this board, I was hopeful that someone has put this together so I don't have to reinvent the wheel!! What would I do without this board!!:D

My Father's World, can I get some input??
Karie replied to Karie's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I really appreciate all the feedback!! -
I've been looking at adding in Progeny Press guides for middle school. Quite a few of these, he's already read. Have you ever had your child repeat a book for Progeny Press? My son loves Redwall and Holes, abut I'm wondering if it would be useful to redo these with PP. Or, should I go ahead and pick some he hasn't read at all??

Where can I find CLP examples of light units?
Karie replied to Karie's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Thanks Heather! -
I can see a few examples from their website, but I remember seeing a site a few years ago that had some light unit samples that appeared scanned. Where can I find that website?? Thanks!

I am using MCT-just starting Voyage level in about a month. I really like the grammar and writing, but I feel that there just isn't enough writing. I've been looking at BJU 7th grade and am curious how others liked/disliked this writing/grammar curriculum. I'm also looking at BJU Literature. I did Lightning Lit 7 this year and it was very easy. I'm hoping for something a little more substantive. If you've used this program or found something better, could you please let me know?? Thanks!

My husband has been teaching my boys Greek off and on for the last few years, but it's been rather hit and miss. My boys are 9 and 11 and I think I need something more structured that I can do with them. It seems like these computer programs are worthless because they are just learning vocab words and not communicating it (like when I took Spanish in high school). I haven't a clue how to get them into learning a language! I asked them what they want to learn, and they both said Chinese. Do you have any suggestions for me on where to start? If you believe a computer program like Rosetta Stone would work, let me know. I'm baffled at this point!!

Another history ?..MFW vs. All American History
Karie replied to Karie's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I really don't have a strong feeling towards either direction. I don't know if a textbook approach is quite right for my 5th grader yet. -
I'm trying to decide history for this upcoming year with a 7th and 5th grader. We are doing middle ages/reformation this year, so I want to go into Exploration-1850's. I've never done something like MFW before. I've done SOTW and this year History Odyssey middle ages with my older son. I need something more planned out for me, and I want to make sure there is enough reading and writing in this program. I actually have quite a few of the books that MFW requires already, so I don't need to buy much except a few books, the Teacher manual and student pages. Also, do I need to buy a set of student pages for each child? I'm just curious how this went for you as far as scheduling, intensity (I like history, but I don't want our school to be ALL about history), and so on. Could you give me your feedback...pretty please?? Thanks!

We'd like to visit this place in the near future, but it seems like lodging is SO expensive!! We don't own a camper, so hotels is the way to go for us. What is the best time of year to go? Obviously, since we home school, we are more flexible than just June and July! Any seasoned Yellowstone/Teton travelers out there that could give us some tips on where to stay, what to do, and when to go.....so that we can maximize our dollar? Thanks!
