  2. How much of the additional readings and activities do you do? We are reading fiction set in the time period we are studying (Middle Ages). We do one or maybe two of the activities. We do a notebooking page once a week alternating random topics or scientists. I am good about checking the additional readings out, but after one extra book on each topic ds's eyes are rolling back in his head. He gets it, he gets it! I see people mention that they read all of the extras and do all of the activities. Aren't your kids bored to tears with the repitition? Is my son missing something here?

    Can you just divide them up and spread them out and see how that works?

     

    I'm using FLL and GWG right now. We do 3 days and 2 days. For Math, Singapore and Miquon...we do 4 and 1. Etc. I have issues too. :auto:

  4. How do you turn off the time feature? We've had this for a couple of years but never stick with it because ds gets so frustrated with it because of the time and giving his low grades because of it.

     

    :001_huh: I'll have to take a look. I'm pretty sure when I entered the level it asked if I wanted to set a time. I'll let you know if I can find it later. You can always email and ask them. We can see the clock, it just doesn't do anything. :001_smile:

  5. We use it with ds5 who is a very reluctant reader. We turned the time feature off. He can takes much time as he needs. If I put him on it alone, he guesses. If I do it with him, he does quite well. My only complaint is that they use a lot of proper nouns to describe people that ds is not familiar with (I.e. Pam, Tim, etc.)

  6. Here's a list I made of popular secular curriculum choices. She can look at the right side of my blog to see what we're using for 2nd grade.

    All of the 2nd grade goodies in my signature are secular. I came across one lesson with a religious poem in FLL2(skipped it) and there's a song on SSL that I skip over as well, but other than that, no problems.

    ETA: With lists like this I don't know if they're talking about independent reading or read-alouds or what. Obviously most 3 year olds aren't going to go sit and read The Blue Fairy Book independently, so the list starts out as read-alouds. When does it change, or does it? That is never clear to me.

     

    I don't know, but 8/12 books for 2nd grade on that list are Little House. I'd prefer a bit more variety.
