  1. We do breakfast/bible/read-aloud all in one

Even after years I have not found my groove (it very well could be we are still adjusting to a new state)

Dd7 needs lots of one on one time while dd11 & dd14 need very little instruction anymore.

I try to make sure everyone gets an hour of me, and I try to combine things where I can

I also try to carve out sometime for dd4 though nothing formal right now as she is more than ready for Kindy yet legally would t make the cut off this fall so we are taking our sweet time.

I do like to start with reading for dd7 this is her weakest area.

I am hoping once we are more settled I can have a more organized day, and stop changing everything up all the time on myself.

  2. Bother me tons! In our unique family situation it's been 1,000 times worse with my nieces and nephews who say lots of words I find distasteful coming from a child's mouth using the Lords name in vain the most. They also use racial slurs to a degree that bugs me so much...ugh! Tonight at the dinner table the word "retard" came up way to many times...really bugged me. My kids know better but re teaching a 16 & 12 year old is hard.

It also bugs me when people overuse the F word.

  3. Dd4 has been enjoying Island of the Blue Dolphins.

    She also LOVES SOTW.

In the past we have done. James and the Giant Peach, Charlottes Web, Anne of Green Gables, Dear Mr. Henshaw, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and she really really loved Stuart Little.

She has been asking for me to read a Zombie book (dh is reading world war Z and talking about zombies a lot) I have not found one yet that I feel would be for a 4 year old though lol.

  4. After having two teen suicides in our family/extended family I take any threat seriously. It was horrific my nephew killed him self over bullying about being a virgin (he was 15) this was about 11 years ago and just a few months ago a dear friend of the family who we considered to be our surrogate nephew killed himself (he was 16) and we have NO IDEA why he did it. He showed no outward sings of depression, had a great home life, and was well liked among his peers. My sisters BFF killed herself at school in the early 90's and about 13 years ago my bbf's dad killed him self...

So yeah I think any threat should be taken very seriously and while I'm sure it was an idol threat from your dd due to extreme duress. I think the nurse was correct for seeking help for her. I'm so sorry your dd had to deal with this. I would seek therapy for your dd if your not already just so she can talk out the issues with an outside party.

  5. 2 to 4 no feet on the floor. Everyday from 2 to 4 pm my kids are on beds. I have quite time boxes for dd 4&7 one for each day of the week with a few activities for them to do. The older two (11 & 14 year olds) usually finish up and work they didn't finish or read, sometimes dd14 does puzzles. Everyone uses the potty first and takes a water bottle.

    Sometimes they even nap.

This gives me 2 hours everyday I usually clean for an hour and do what ever for the next hour. I do try to schedule things around the time to as far as outside appointments go.

As for socialization..not worried! my kids are big talkers, never have a hard time fitting into groups or team work.

  6. I do feel prayer works, just not always the way we want it to. That being said our family could really use some prayers right now me standing alone in prayer is not working right now.

    :)

  7. Currently we don't have one. Everything is in baskets we haul them out to the kitchen table and do our thing.

In the past we always had an eat in kitchen and used our formal dinning room as the school room. The new place we are looking at we won't have the space for one but I plan to make a spot for our stuff and not cart baskets around. It all depends if my 7 year old nephew is with us still or not he can not stay out of things and I have to keep supplies under lock and key.

Honestly I like not having one. I don't feel like I need to create a "classroom" we can do school on the floor, outside, on the couch,in the mountains, etc,

  8. We have had so little time for projects this year. I'm hoping to do something this summer in that dept.

I would though like to add my 7 year old who has had the hardest time reading did awesome today and even read a few words that I really didn't think she knew at all. I almost cried.

Here is a bump for your thread though. I will try to think of projects we have done in the past and get back to you.

  9. I didn't even touch band teachers lol..

My 8th grade band teach was Ms. White and she dated the assistant principal Mr. Rice. Naturally there was a lot of "white on rice" jokes which only got you sent to the principals office lol.

All my band teachers had horrible last names Mr.Messing, Ms. Naylor, Ms. White, Ms. Kuntz, Mr. Bashem Mr. Slutter, Mr. Stone, and Mr. Littlepage (please don't take offense if one of these is your last name it's just how kids are kinda thing)

We had a new teacher each year it was awful.

Mr. Stone weighed about 500 pounds and it was terrible watching him try to climb up on the marching stand he fell off and we all laughed and laughed he walked off at practice and never came back. He also had a horrible smell about him, the band room stunk. Kids actually dropped out of both class and Marching band.

  10. Dh got me hooked and it's really not my thing at all... Some of the "squished a zombie in the head with an axe" sounds are a little tough for me but we agreed to not watch it in surround sound anymore lol.. It does have some gore but it's spread out because of the drama aspect. It wouldn't be much of a show if it was all about kills.

I think if you just watch it you will get hooked and you will get past the gore, sounds and random pop up scares...and if you scream. No big deal in the comfort of your own home ;)

  11. Oh man I got a bunch...lol

Worst was a student stabbing a teacher (and it was not the first time he was stabbed at school over his 30 so etching year career) it was middle school and it was during class switching so we walked in and saw blood (I can't remember if it was 7th or 8th grade)

My Senior year one of the new gym coaches had a heart attack and turned BLUE it was terrifying (and before cell phones) it was insane he was sitting against the door and just turned blue and we had to send someone out the back exit and run clear across campus to call 911. (The gym teachers always sat against the door because the lunch room was right outside and people who had lunch would sneak in to the gym to play basketball)

In 10th grade my history teacher threw a book at me (for forgetting my book) and he once threw a desk at the wall.

Our softball coach (also a gym teacher) had an affair with a student and was inappropriate towards most of the team and was later fired.

The coolest science teacher in high school had an affair with someone who worked in the school office. AND his daughter was my brothers girlfriend and he knocked her up it was such a mess.

In middle school my gifted teacher who was such a hippy used to smoke pot in his office, he always wore Birkenstocks and had a car with a million environmental stickers on it. He was by far my favorite teacher ever I was sad to find out he passed away not long ago.

I also had a female science teacher in 9th who was a professional body builder...it was just creepy lol.

  12. I am a little OCD.

I clean up the kitchen after every meal and snack. I can not have crumbs or dirty dishes laying around. I mop the floor every day sometimes more (muddy dogs...grrr) I clean the bathroom every morning after the PS kids leave, and I Clean it again after night times baths (not a deep clean just a wipe down, put things away, swish the toilet and a quick mop if needed)

I wake up around 5 and walk the dog, shower, read, email, blog etc.

I will skip the chaos of getting 7 kids and a husband out the door lol

I wake the HS kids up at 8 so they miss the madness, we do breakfast, bible and talk about our plans

We work till 10 have a snack, work some more lunch at 11:30 (my preschooler niece is home for lunch)

We finish off schooling by 2 and from 2-4 NO FEET ON THE FLOOR I don't care what they do so long as its quite, and they stay on their beds. I use this time to mop/vac, prep dinner and still usually have an hour for myself

Dinner is served between 5-5:30, bedtime routines (bathing, reading etc) the bedtime schedule is staggered with littles down by 7:30 and orders down by 9

I do laundry only for the 5 youngest, myself and dh and only on Thursdays and Fridays. Saturdays we strip sheets and get them all done. The older kids all have shared laundry days and they work out the details of them with out me.

Dh's schedule changes next week so I will likely have to change some stuff up :/

Oh and some days are a total fail like today...I could not catch up to save my life!
