Thanks for all the reassuring words. I guess it's still early. She is preferring to just not eat, which is bothering me. She doesn't like smoothies, but did get her to drink a Carnation Instant Breakfast. I'll try to think up a good menu of soft foods for the next few days just to ease things for her.
Thanks,
Tiffany

Thanks so much!!!! I am feeling a little less stress, now. I know I'll have more questions as I go, but this will get me started.

Do you keep the books on your shelves in order pertaining to the unit?
-
you don't have to take the cd in and out each time? Is that what I'm understanding? Sorry to be dense.

I'm wondering what's on YOUR list for convention. Any non-curriculum, fun items? Any ideas for fun stuff to do with Ancient period?
Here's what I'm buying:
JAG student books
Rosetta Stone Spanish
Saxon 6/5 and maybe DIVE CD's
Any TOG 1 books I can find used or cheap
Mind Benders A
Primary Learning Logs for SWR
Homeschool In the Woods timeline
Elsie Dinsmore cd's and books
Patricia St John books
Beginning Outlining
Need to look at:
Geography games
Harp and Laurel Wreath
Queen Elementary Bible studies for Boys/ Girls
Living Forest Series
Unwrapping the Pharaohs
IEW
Latin for Children vs LC 1
Ivan series
Training Hearts Teaching Minds
Apologia Elementary books (which one, if at all)

I forgot, thanks for the info. I'll definitely get the homeschool version! That way I have the option to do the books if I want them!

Are you able to install RS on two different computers? I'd like to put it on my laptop and also on the desktop so I can have 2 of them working at the same time.

Since my oldest was about 3 we've done "best" and "worst" when I tuck her into bed. She's 10 and still does it!

It's been 4 days and she's still having a hard time eating because it hurts to chew. Is this normal? (Could also be melodramatics!)
Also, it's difficult to brush the crazy contraption. Would a water pik work better?

I am in search of a list of conversation starters to use around the dinner table. Something with open ended questions or "discover about each other" kinds of starters. Anyone have any leads?

I appreciate the input, ladies. I feel like my 10 yo struggles even producing a coherent sentence, much less a paragraph with organization and style. We have done lots of oral narrations through the years, but whenever we've done written ones, I feel like I'm basically telling her what to say. She's wonderfully creative and has an amazing imagination, but can't get it onto paper without gobs of my assistance.
Lee, your point about not being able to jump back into the schedule rings loud and clear in my ears! Hmm... got some thinking and praying to do...

This thread has been so helpful for me, also! I've been feeling the stress of school taking all day and knowing the 4yo is going to be wanting his time too, next year. Thanks for all the wisdom and advice!

Any opinions? Pros/Cons? I don't really need all the worksheets from the homeschool version- too much other writing to get done! BUT, is the tracking software really helpful? What do you think?

How do you all set up your binders, kids binders, organize your books and other materials??? I'm trying to think ahead so I don't have to redo over and over as I go!

Thank you all so much! I now have a very long list to look at!!!

Would you mind explaining why you feel you should have stuck with it? I'm just trying to get a dose of reality with WA. What would you have done differently?
-
Off to search for these now!

We are starting TOG next year and so far am just planning on using WA. However, it seems that a lot of people are using IEW (which I've pondered using for a long time...). Is there a reason you didn't like WA? I feel like I need a ton of hand holding for writing so I wasn't sure if WA provides that or not.

Thank you. I'm not really SURE if I want more! I really don't know what else to add to it. I guess things like how/when to use quotation marks will be part of the writing? Or when to use their/there/they're will be part of spelling. Or dictionary/thesaurus use will be in history and writing?
Just thinking out loud...

I was thinking about using this next year but after using BJU english for a few years, I am feeling like it leaves a lot out. I do have a writing curriculum (TOG Writing Aids) but am wondering if JAG is complete enough for the rest of an English curriculum or do you need to supplement it with word usage, resources use, etc...?
Thanks in advance!

I'm making my convention list and would appreciate some recommendations for your favorite geography games for learning both the states/capitals and also for World Geography. RRC has so many and it's hard to decide!

Finally got registered on the new site!
Anyway, we can't get DSL or cable and satellite hookup is so expensive.
If you use a wireless pc card to access the internet,
1. How much is your monthly plan?
2. Do you have some sort of monthly mega bytes limit you are allowed and do you feel it's adequate for how you use the internet? I have no idea how many bites I use in a month!
3. Have you had any problems with the card or the company? We have to use AT&T since they are the only ones that have coverage in our area.
4. Can you use it for more than one computer?
5. Any other helpful info???
Thanks so much for any help. I am totally illiterate on this stuff but don't want to get scammed when we buy one!
Warmly,
Tiffany
