Hello All,
I am considering NW CTD summer camp for my 7th grader and I'm wondering if anyone has sent their child to that summer camp. Did your child enjoy
it? What was their experience like? Also, what are everyone's summer plans? Camps? Travel? I am torn between just having a relaxed summer at home,
and signing them up for more structured camps. My son is a reader and writer, and he would be happy to just stay home and read books and write his stories.
However, since we homeschool he already does quite a bit of that.

I am looking for a live on-line Latin 1 class for my 9 year old that he could take in the winter and/or spring. It seems most classes are either year-long, or part 1 is only offered in the fall. Is anyone aware of a beginning Latin class he could take ?

Does anyone have suggestions for either historical fiction, or non-fiction, audio books? My son is asking for "more history" for the time we spend in the car
listening to audio books. I'm looking for suggestions other than Jim Weiss, or SOTW (which we have). Thanks!

Thank you for all the great suggestions. He loves stories of all kinds (for example, he loves "Arabian Nights" by Tarnowska), but seems most interested in greek and roman mythology right now. I'd love to hear about the other resources (not greek and roman) too.

My son is really enjoying studying ancient history and mythology right now. He has done SOTW volume one, and most of the suggested reading. His favorites on this topic are D'aulaires' Book of Greek Myths, Marcia William's Greek Myths, Osborne's Tales from the Odyssey, Connolly's books on Ancient Greece, Jim Weiss' recordings on mythology and ancient history, the Percy Jackson series and the Kane Chronicles. What else could I give him?

We are thinking of having our almost seven year old son evaluated. Can anyone recommend someone in this area? We are in southwestern CT. Anywhere between New Haven and Manhattan would be fine.

Here's a definition of gifted:
Personally, I don't think it matters when homeschooling. What's important is meeting the child where they are and providing an interesting and challenging learning environment. The only reason I would test is if we decided to try to gain admittance to a program that required test results (like CTY or SIG).

My 6.5 year old is an avid reader. He is on book 5 of the Harry Potter series. Other favorites are The Boxcar Children, How to Train Your Dragon, Tumtum and Nutmeg, Kenny and the Dragon, The Hobbit, Dragon Rider (lots of dragon stories!).

I'm looking forward to reading any responses to this as my ds (6.5) is also obsessed with these books. The only thing I have to add is that the recording by Rob Inglis is the best audio book. He is an amazing reader. And, of course, you must have a map of middle earth:

Thanks for the feedback. My son also went to CTY one summer and his reaction was mixed. He doesn't want to go back to CTY either.
