We used this the year (grade 8 with an accelerated student) we did Conceptual Physics. We used Paul's book with the ferris wheel with great success. I think there were about 3 chapters were there were no videos or support information that lined up with what we were doing but it was easily remedied with youtube videos on the same topic.

Sports eligibility is an area to double and triple check and to try to get written copies of policies. We have had people tell us that homeschoolers could play with the local high school teams. Only true in that area if the student was part of a local charter (ie, public) school. Other places wouldn't even let homeschoolers compete against public school teams (ran into this in VA, although the law was recently changed, I think). On the other hand, we have friends whose son was able to be a full participant on the local high school soccer team (in a third state).
It really depends on the area and the school and even the sport. With USA Swimming, for example, a swimmer who changes teams has to wait for 120 days before competing for the new team and also has to be released by the old team. (Usually this is just a matter of getting a signature that there are no outstanding payments due.) This is for club swimming, not high school level.
Yes and no. A swimmer can change teams, and can compete. They will be considered unattached to their new team for 120 days from the last time they competed with their old team at a sanctioned meet. The transferred swimmer will just not be able to compete in relays or earn points for their new team at competitions were points are earned, but they can participate in individual events and earn individual points.
(return to lurkdom).

Over the years I have used your suggestions from when my kids were in first all the way up until high school. I am so very thankful for your words of wisdom and your simple (and effective) curriculum suggestions.

I've only managed to follow one person's plans. And they weren't even plans just things that worked for her and her kids.
LoriD has been my go to source for curriculum ideas for over a decade.

Yes there are two versions of this book. Modern Speller, which combines grades into two volumes and Dictation Day by Day which brakes years up into separate books. We start using them in year two, after we finish Saxon Phonics.

I just noticed that amazon sells instant videos to a selection of GC lectures. Has any one purchased them in the past? Are they same quality as the videos from the GC site?

Story of the World
WWS
LoF- we only did Fractions when it first came out and my child begged me to drop it. This child has never made the request. Just did not like the story.
Real Science for Kids
All the different Trail Guides
We attempted to use MM, just could not make it happen

We used Saxon Phonics through Grade 2, and I credit it for giving my child a solid foundation in phonics and spelling. I enjoyed it so much, I wish I could other curriculum written like it that created such results.
The vintage book Composition book by grades, Wheeler's Speller and Dictation by Day
Prufrock Logic books (I find these to be a better value than others on the market)

Do homeschoolers nationwide use the same code when taking the SAT or ACT?

I just realized we are looking for information for the same person. lol.

I really don't think the information is out there. I've been looking for a friend and just can't find a neutral/non-homeschooling resource site.

Our time zone make the classes at an odd time for us. So ds is working through the book concurrently with with the reminder half of Intro to Algebra. Right now we are rotating after each chapter, I have found it has made my son's math journey more enjoyable.
I'm hoping next year when we move to Geometry we can do something similar.

My son is working through C & P right now. And his big grins are slowly turning into furrowed brow. They weren't joking about it starting nice a smooth and getting harder in the end. My son is still having fun (???) though.

What about using the relevant portions from one of the following:
Human Odyssey by Spielvogel
Ways of the World by Strayer
Both books are recommended AP books. You can find both on Amazon used in your price range.

In your opinion do you think the textbook could be easily switched out with another textbook/resources?

Isn't there a Great Courses for High School Bio?

I might add take reviews with a grain of salt, in our hurry to get the best, we sometimes forget what others think of as too easy or too challenging might be perfect for your student. I have heard conflicting information about TT over the years, I think it fits a certain type of student and that for some kids and their long term goals it is the right fit.
Also if your student has never worked in a AOPS book, you might want to try it before you buy it. It can be very overwhelming for a lot of students (and parents).

We have studied Mythology in the past (my child was obssessed for a few years), so we are going to skip reading but will listen instead.
Here are the books, plays and poems I was thinking about adding to History and Lit combo:
The Epic of Gilgamesh translated by N.K. Sandars
The Tale of Sinhue
Poetry selections from the Bedford book
The Tale of the Shipwrecked Sailor
The Dialogue of a Man and His Soul
The Teaching of Vizier Ptahhotep
Bhagavad Gita
The Iliad by Homer, translated by Robert Fagles
The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fagels
Selections from Lives by Plutarch
Selections from Dao De Jing by Laozi
Selections from Classic of Poetry (Shi jing)
The Analects
Sophocles, Three Theban Plays, translated by Robert Fagles (only one)
Julius Ceasar by Shakespeare
Aurelius, Meditations, any translation
Augustine, The Confessions, any translation
Listening to Vandiver’s literature lectures along the way
Tao Qian- selections from
Selections from Ramayana
The Life of Muhammad, "The Ascent to Heaven"
The Mu'allaqah
The Conference of the Birds
Does that look like too little if I want to cover major works of global pieces as they unfolded in history?

See you on your return, if I don't meet you here first.

That will be my next step. Also, I haven't found the state associations to be much help in most things.
I too would like to understand how HI stance on homeschoolers is different than VA but I was up earlier calling due to time difference so I wasn't quick on the questioning.

Frustrating sums up my feeling this morning.
The rep sounded like she was just rereading the FAQ back at me. It does not help there is no one in my area that has btdt. But that is a vent for a different thread.
