  1. I had 2 upper and 2 lower adult teeth removed for braces with no long term consequences yet. That was 15 years ago (man I'm getting old)!! I just started orthodontics on my DD and was worried she would have to get teeth pulled too, but the orthodontist (the same one I had) said now they put an expander on the top to expand her mouth to make room. He doesn't pull any permenant teeth any more. So, maybe you could ask about that.

  2. I would! We are actually doing the same thing with my DD right now. She is a 1st grader and has done dance for 4 years now. She is very good at it and enjoys it while she is there so I keep having her take it. I think in her case she thinks she will miss out on another sport. She wants to take soccer but I haven't allowed her to yet (it's in another town and 3 days a week). So, I bit the bullet and with all 4 kids in tow, I'm allowing her to do soccer :D But, I told her she also had to take dance. Her answer "I get to do both!!"

  3. I'm not sure how to quote people so I'll just answer questions. She isn't constipated. She goes to the chiropractor regularly, so I don't think it would be anything in her back. When we were at the doctor, they did the dipstick to look for a bladder infection and said that everything looked great. No glucose in her urine, but no bloodtests. Oh, and she did just get her 2 year molars in about 1-2 months ago??

I think I may just be giving her too much independence with it? But, it just seems weird to me where she will start in her underwear, go to the potty, then changes her underwear, mostly without me knowing (until I find the pile of dirty underwear). Then have days and nights with no accidents

  4. Thanks for the suggestions. I forgot to put that she did go to the doctor about 2 weeks ago, because I thought it may be a bladder infection. Thankfully it wasn't. And with this stubborn child, being my 3rd, I absolutely didn't TRY to potty train her that early:lol: She was just done with diapers!! My 2nd DS potty trained himself at 2 1/2 in 10 days on a roadtrip  That was fun! But with her, she is so smart, I think the novelty wore off and she's just like ehhhh. Maybe I will try diapers again at night. It is definetely worse when she has juice, so she can only have water right now.

  5. So, my 2 yo DD potty trained the 1st of April. She was done with diapers, day and night, with no accidents. Fast forward 3 months and she started having a few accidents here and there, then wetting at night and naps again. Now she is starting to pee in her undies almost everytime, will go to the potty and finish and change her undies, all by herself. She is wetting almost everynight now and during most naps. I am stumped?? I haven't put a diaper back on her, but I'm wondering if I should? She can also go days with no accidents. I just really don't know what to do with her. I never have to clean it up because she already does and she never has poopy accidents. Any advice or BTDT!! Thanks!

  6. I had a herbst when I was 12-13 (a long time ago!) and it really wasn't that bad. It just took a few weeks to get used to and I had it for about 1.5 years. I had a pretty bad overbite and it corrected it. Now 16 years later we are dealing with this with our 6, almost 7 year old dd. She has a severe overbite that if we didn't do the herbst would probably have to have surgery. Tomorrow she is being fitted with an expander and it about 6-8 months will get her herbst in.

Funny thing is, we are using the same orthodontist that did mine and he gave us a family discount :D

  7. Does anyone use Start Write to print out their narration and copywork from WWE or SOTW to put it on the paper line size and font they are use to?? Or do you just use the lines from the workbooks?? We are doing italics and I thought is may be easier for my DD to do her copywork and narrations with paper she is use to and a little bit more practice with handwriting;)

  8. Your poor dh!!! He was lucky it wasn't worse!!!

Did he get the vaccine because he had an injury?

I've been reading the CDC info on tetanus. The CDC says there were only 18 cases of tetanus in 2009 - not clear whether that includes any that were side effects from the vaccine.

My husband was very lucky!! After about 2 years the pain went away and he had most mobility of his jaw back, but it took that long for most of the toxins to get out of his body!! No, he didn't have any injury, he works in the oilfield and it was just a booster.

The vaccine batch wasn't recalled and the doctor's office really didn't want to even touch the case. They said it was just a coincidence  with no injury!?!

He cut his finger badly on a box cutter a couple of weeks ago and I quietly brought up getting a tetnus shot and he "politely" declined :D

Because of him and our son being an identical clone to his dad, my son doesn't get vaccinations either.

  9. Yes, it's a HORRIBLE disease with a high potential for mortality. As a nurse, I've only seen two cases....one, an elderly farmer who had never been vaxed. He was injured by a stick from a barbed wire fence in his cow pasture. The second was a child, who had a puncture wound from running around barefoot. The farmer died, the child survived, but with severe brain damage from lack of oxygen during the disease. It is NOTHING to mess around with, and I can't stress enough the need to get the vaccination if your child is at risk from an injury. You are playing a very serious game with your child's life if you don't. And honestly, the vaccine is safe. The child will be FINE if he gets it. I wish I could say the same for not getting it.

I have to say that greatly disagree with the bolded. My DH got a tetanus booster about 3 years ago (he works in the oilfield) and within 24 hours he developed lockjaw. He jaw ached and he couldn't open his mouth more than 1/2 inch for 6-8 months. So to say that the vaccine is safe and the child will be fine is not always true. I urge the OP to feel completely comfortable with any decision she makes.

  10. I know many of you have mentioned re-using workbooks through different kiddos, but I am wondering how you have done this?? I know I am way overthinking this:confused: I really curious with The Critical Thinking Company workbooks as I would love to not buy them 4 times :tongue_smilie:

If you have cut them apart and laminated them, is it more cost effective??

  11. My 6 year old DD went through this! She can read very well, but didn't want to read aloud for some reason. She kept saying for the longest time "I don't know how to read," when I knew that she could. So, I just kept telling her that she can read and she reads great, etc. Finally, it's almost like it clicked with her that she could read and now she reads aloud probably 30 minutes a day and loves it (she is just learning to read to herself)!! But, we also just found Rainbow Magic Fairy books by Daisy Meadows and that is right up her alley :D

  12. I just got AAR in the mail today and I think it will really help my almost 4 year old in learning his letters and sounds, plus he saw it and is so excited to start! I was very fortunate and found mine used (only 2 of the student pages were colored) for $80. So, you may be able to find a used one (which for me, makes me not feel so bad!!)
