  1. Just wen to the Dr. for the same thing w/ ds (4). I was wondering for 3 weeks if I should bring him in. He does have chronic asthma but it seemed different to me. Dr. said asthma is worsening and gave us an inhaler to use 2x daily- only have used it 3 times so far and already starting to improve.

I would take him in just in case of bronchitis or walking pnuemonia. My dd (8) recently had a persistant cough and when I took her in to my surprise she had walking pnuem. Not as bad as it sounds but we did take the antibiotics to be sure.

    Good luck

  2. I loved my Dressy Bessy doll. And since I had a twin brother, he had Dapper Dan, which I liked as well.

    Spirograph, Lite-Brite... I loved those!

I also really liked Colorforms. Do they have those anymore?

Yes, I loved colorforms - and I did see them recently at toys r us.

I had the cheap barbie house with the cardboard walls and elevator - I loved it- I used to make Ken and Barbie dance the night away ahhh.... memories.

Loved my Golden Books - Pokey Little Puppy was my fave.

Cabbage patch kids- the original I still have my girl, boy, and preemie

    Rainbow Brite and friends-

I really wanted to like Strawberry Shortcake but my little sister liked that so that was absolutely out along with My Little Pony

We played Little People till all hours (a favorite)

Remember Weebles??? "Weebles wobble but they don't fall down"

Also, had and loved the treehouse

  3. And dc always sing:

God rest you merry gentlemen, let nothing you dismay. . . .

For Jesus Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day

To save us all from Satan's power when we were gone astray,

Oh our God needs a Tupperware drawer, Tupperware drawer!

Oh our God needs a Tupperware drawer!

(huh? Don't know HOW they came up with that!)

  4. Do not call dh and play a practical joke on him by saying "I'm so sorry honey, I just backed into your new car" and then 2 hours later- actually do it :blushing: terribly embarrasing when you have to convince him that you actually did do it this time.

NEVER- leave a four y/o for 2.5 seconds strapped into the (running) van so that you can grab his sneakers (5 steps away). Those little buggers are FAST and will smash said van into garage wall (while 3 older sisters scream in horror). Oh, yeah and never tempt him by saying "now you stay right there" :glare:

Do not divide a recipe so far down that you cannot figure out the fractions and therefore create volcano cake in your oven (it stinks -bad and for a long time)

Never believe the guy at the snowmobile rental place when he says that the trails are suitable for beginners. He just wants to rent one more sled and he will charge you through the nose when you wreck your sled as you careen down the "death slide"

This thread has been a blast!!!!!

  5. I honestly thought I was going to explode from my gargantuan size and her sheer activity! She was average in size--7 lbs., 8 ounces, but she sure made up for it in activity.

My method for inducing labor, when you're ready, is to sit down and have a good cry over your condition---at least it worked for me. I think God had mercy on me at that point and said, "OK, kiddo, you can go ahead and have this baby!"

:lol: Yes, I agree that this is a very effective method for inducing labor. This was the case with my twins (although I had to cry for two days:glare: makes sense I guess). One of them was a little kung fu master and she came out rip rearing to go. She was my most challenging baby but is now at age 6 the most compliant loving child. The other one just couldn't help having her poor little head stuck up under my ribs. Her sister wouldn't let her come out of the corner :tongue_smilie:.

Hang in there, we know how you feel. :grouphug:

  6. Alright, the dimes thing is going - well, changing. We'll tally at bedtime how much they've earned for the day. See, I was trying to not tie the allowance to chores so much, but that's what it has ended up being. Well, maybe we'll just scrap it all together.

They're cleaning their rooms right now. They have a list to follow, so it isn't too overwhelming. Start with the stuffed animals, then the books, then dirty clothes, then trash - done!

I know I'm a pushover sometimes. I catch myself giving in on something and wonder what on earth I'm doing.

I'll be working on C-O-N-S-I-S-T-E-N-C-Y this next week - and every week after that for the rest of my life probably.

Thanks for listening to me complain. You know, kids never misbehave when you're around other people, so I mention my concerns to my mom or a friend and they think I'm nuts. But it's been getting steadily worse for the last month and I get to about lunchtime and seriously want to start knocking heads. It HAS to get better or I'm going to be bald before dh gets home.

Oh I have loved this thread. Thank you all for the great advice I've also gleaned. My children also do great with lists. I made a list for each of them for morning routine and they follow it to the letter with enthusiasm (not typical) Even after they have memorized the list - they still love to use it. I have one who gets a bit upset if anyone is preventing her from following her list to the letter  (ie number four is brush your teeth and you are standing in front of the sink)

  7. We have more than 19 YIKES! That is between 4 kids. I have only bought 4 for the kid's swap we did at christmas with cousins. We all bought webkinz to swap. Other than that they have all been from friends and family at birthdays or christmas, or bought with their own allowance. My kids did get addicted to them for a while but we only allow 20 min of computer time a day and they barely use that at all now. When I say addicted I mean every day for months they would all use their 20 to play webkinz. My kids also do love to play with the real stuffed animal as well. They use them to set up "webkinz school" and other such imaginary play. They love to build webkinz homes out of cardboard boxes. Overall I'd say webkinz have been fun in our house except for my mild irritation with the volume and I've put a freeze on any more coming in. :001_smile:

  8. Sounds scary but- my left breast is sore. Has been for a couple of months. NO lumps or bumps. Went to the ER -everything is ok but just unnerving. Dr. thinks it could be related to a virus (as could the vertigo be) I still don't know why it hurts- I'm going to call for a mamo. on Monday.

I still have the vertigo which doesn't hurt but sure is debilitating.:glare:

  9. The other cookies are called Crescent Cookies (I just knew that pastry degree would come in handy some day):001_smile:

I was going to ask how to find a good iron to make them in:)

My aunt always makes them and brings them from Cleveland when she comes for Christmas. Since she is flying this year, I thought I would buy an iron and invite her to come to my house and make them with the kids one day - they are our favorite treat!~

In my experience those electric ones that plug in and make 2 at a time don't work very well. They make the cookie too thick and not crisp at all. I struggled with one of these for a few years before my grandmother gave me hers. Maybe it wouldn't matter as much to you but I was used to thin and crunchy. If you want to find the old fashioned kind I would maybe search the internet or visit your local "little Italy" if you have one and ask around. You could also try a baker's supply store. I'm not sure they are even made anymore but it would be worth the looking imo.

I think it is a wonderful activity to do with the children. We all enjoy it immensely. It creates such strong memories I believe because of all the senses that are involved with the process. I feel my grandmother is "with" me everytime I make them.

  10. One of my most treasured memories is of these cookies. My Grandmother made these every year for Christmas Eve. I used to call them snowflake cookies before I knew they were called Pizzelles. The year I got married she gave me her pizzelle maker which was her mother's. It is a heavy steel long-handled tool which makes one at a time over the stovetop. It is over 100 years old and it is my most prized posession. :001_wub:

Not that you asked.... just had to share

  11. Yes, we do nicknames but not to the extreme that others might take. We have a Bina-bug and a doodle-bug and the other kids have nicknames that are just their proper names shortened. Although Doodle bug has also been goose. I forgot about that one!

My sis takes it to a new level though - She calls her daughter at least 5 different nicknames - most of which make my skin crawl. "princess" happens to be one, cappy, lella and yet another : "J" :ack2:

  12. Love it or hate it .... this is what we sing/chant to my 'little man" Said to the tune of WHO LET THE DOGS OUT who-who-who-who -------- "DANNY THE MANNY -who-who-who-who"

Guess you could call it one of those "inside jokes" that all families have which are unique to them.

I suppose we call him our little man because he truly is the littlest male in our house. Having three older sisters can be tough so in a way we are referring to and celebrating his uniqueness. I find it endearing and never for one moment thought of it as derogatory but it's always good to know someone elses perspective.

  13. Thanks so much everyone.

DH needed the computer last night and this morning so I am just now reading all the replies. I will check into all your suggestions. The vertigo is a little bit better today. The nausea is gone and I can at least walk around with one hand on the walls. I did the epleys last night without too much trouble and slept in a recliner- I think I'm almost used to it :001_huh:.

I did take the Meclazine yesterday but it really didn't help and did make me tired.

    I appreciate all your suggestions!

  14. ummm...no pretty at all....but the MOST comfortable underwear in the ENTIRE world....that NEVER give me a wedgie...and, ftr, I have a large rear...LOL Are, don't laugh....TIGHTEE WHITEES! That is correct ladies....mens underware!
