  1. Your daughter is a wonderful young lady. Our world is so different today. It sounds as though in our grandmothers day she would have been the norm now the world is different. Although, is it so different. Just the other day my ds, age 15, asked me Mom how and I going to find a wife that will love taking care of our home and our children like you do. (I had to give him a big hug for that.) Honestly I have advanced degree but have not really used them. I love taking care of my family and my husbnad has a job that supports us very well. Actually he is often on call so my working would be a huge burden. We live in a neighborhood where many of the families have both parents working and my son has seen first hand how this can effects the children. So the moral is... my son would like to marry a girl like your daughter. My ds plans to be an electrical engineer and hope to have a job similiar to his dads(my dh) As a side note my ds is also very musical and plays the guitar very, very well. He loves music although just considers it a hobby. He and my dh will often play guitars together for several hours every evening. I love to hear them play. I actually think my ds has become a better student since he started playing 3 years ago.

I say go with your heart in reference to how to direct your daughter future.

Deep down inside I think you know the path you would like to see her follow.

Blessings to you for raising such a kind and gentle lady.

  2. Landscape progect are also popular here, although I would like to see one of the boys do something that would encourage people to recycle, and or use less products with so much packaging. We do not have curbside recycling so you have to take all of you stuff to the bins at the Wal-Mart parking lot. Needless to say our recycling numbers are low. I think it is important that each of us leave a smaller carbon footprint and that this would be a fantastic project for a young man working towards Eagle Scout Wish him all the best!!!

  3. What a great feeling! I just ordered Total Money Makeover from the library. It's nice to see what the end of that road looks like! What a blessing it will be for you, especially in our uncertain economic times.

How long did it take you from start to finish?

We have been married for 18 years.

We have never had consumer debt (ie pay off our credit card every month)

We are living in our 3rd home and have always paid down on the mortgage each house has been a bit nicer than the previous house. We don't plan to move again until my dh retires in about 12 years. ie we have as much house as we need or want and it is in a wonderful location

We have owned 3 new cars during our marriage and always pay them off within two years of buying them. Dh has a compnay vehicle for work.

I really a bit bad feeling so happy given the difficult economics times.

  4. The house is paid for

    The car is paid for

We have no consumer/credit card debit

    Wow what a great feeling

We have worked very hard to get here...pay extra on our mortgage whenever we had extra. Dh did a lot of side work. We paid for our house in 8 years.

In some ways I don't know if it has sunk in yet.

  5. To be honest the reading list from TOG looks overwhelming. I wonder if he'd be better served by reading just 2 books at a time. The most my 9th grader can handle is 45 minutes of great books/day, about 30 minutes of one history text and 30 minutes of a different, easier book for literature. Maybe he's having trouble with all the various readings. He may be reading just to get through the list and not retaining much (I'm just guessing here~that's what mine would do). Mine do better if they can just concentrate on a couple books.

I would love to do TTC lectures, but my kids would probably go crazy with that on top of everything else, I know others here do well with them though.

You still have a lot of LA with 2 vocab programs, spelling and handwriting. Could you cut out handwriting, one vocab program and handwriting?

I agree with this post, Wow he is doing a lot of history in one day. It looks overwhelming, and at a point he probably just shuts down and it not retaining the infomation anymore. I actually still read aloud to my 9th grader while he eats breakfast and lunch and after dinner we do a family read aloud(taking turns reading) Could some of the reading be done in this way. Black Ships before Troy makes a great read aloud.

  6. I am considering using IEW with my 9th grader. We have never used the program before. What would you start with? Programs we have used are

Put That in Writing 1 (went very well)

Elegant Essay (currently using and will finish as it has gone very well)

Basically I need a program to get and keep him writing. He is a good writer. He just need to practice the art of writing more. He wants to be an engineer and writing is not his favorite thing to do. My goal is to help him be prepared for the SAT essay and to write research papers for college.

  7. I recently purchased a Panasonic Digital and I love. It does everything I need in a camera. That said, I used a website cameralabs.com to help make my decision. The gentleman there does a 10 review/preview of lots and lots of digital cameras. He really helped decide on what camera was best for what I wanted a camera for.

  8. Does it come with a cable at all? One that would plug into the frame with a USB plug on the other end that would plug into your computer?

If not' date=' then you are going to have to find a pc that has a slot for the memory card so you can write/burn the pictures to it. Sorry.

If it's this model from QVC, it does have an USB cable

Well I found out that dh purchased this at Staples and put it in a QVC box:001_huh: Next step asked ds, the computer wiz, how to burn the pictures onto the memory card from the computer. He figured it out in about 5 minutes, he must have a great teacher. :001_smile: Then I made him write out the process step by step for me. It's great when the student becomes the teacher. I love this kid.

Thanks for your advice and helpful suggestions.

  9. I have learned by trail and error what helps.

I wash my feet with antibacterial soap 2-3 times a day in the winter and change my socks each time. I no longer have purple spots on them and they are not itchy

Also I exercise (walk 5-6 miles a day) I think this has increase my circulation and has also widened my vessels which seems to help the problem

Mine has been called Reynauds, but like you I don't agree with this. Honestly to me it doesn't matter what it's called I just want to know how to make it better.

  10. Can you tell me what pieces the DVD course added to Spectrum? I look forward to using Spectrum but it looks pretty complete to me...?

I use the DVD's to supplement what is tought in the book. Basically we read the text book chapter, watch the Teaching Co DVD, do the problems in the DVD book, read the chaper again and do the problems in the text book. You do not have DVD lesson for each text chapter. When I have time I will post which DVD lesson I used with which chapter in the text.

Sorry for the late response I am not online much.

  11. We have been without a dog for the last year and a half. We lost our beloved Sheltie to the bad food from China situation and were heartbroken. I didn't even start thinking about another dog until 6 months ago. My doggie history is we had show dogs (Italian Greyhounds) when I was a kid. I had show Shelties for most of my 20's. We lost our last show dog where our son was 4. When our son turned 5 we bought our last Sheltie (pet quality) from a wonderful AKC breeder and exhibitor that I have known for years. I decided to go with a different breed this time - Pembroke Welsh Corgi. We have one of the best corgi people in the county living about 3 miles from us. She is elderly and actually had decided not to breed any more. After talking to me though she said she would breed her beautiful girl in December (I first talked to her in October) She was excited that I might be willing to continue her line for her. I really only called her about a pet but the thought of showing again is not out of the question. Well I spoke to her a few days ago and she gave me a strange reason for deciding not to breed her girl although she is in season. She said she will try to correct the problem and breed her in June. This would mean if she has a nice puppy we would not have a dog until next November. I have subscribed to a Corgi list and just found a very nice, young male Corgi that is up for adoption in our state. I have never adopted a dog before so this is new ground for me. I am seriously considering it thought as I just have a big emptiness in my life without a dog. I also like the idea of rescuing a dog. My only concern is what type of problem a rescue may have. Please tell me your great or not so great rescue stories to help me decide.

    Thanks~~~Karen

  12. I made up index cards with one theorem per card. I called these his tools ie he would have to go to this tool box to solve the mytery of the proof. Now the first clue to the proof is always hidden in the first given. Look for key words and then find theorems that have those words. Make it like a solve the mystery game. OK I know I am probably stretching the idea of make geometry fun and or interesting but they need to engage to be able to get somewhere. My ds has done very well using this method and it is fun to hear him say Oh I know what tool to use to solve this one etc.....

Also talking out the road to solving the proof works well for him too All statements and reasons lead to the next statement/reason. You can't just jump over roads, they have to make a clear path if they aren't linked you are probably missing something. Good luck and remember this is not easy stuff but the light bulb will go off if you keep at it.

  13. We asked ourselves the same question 8 years ago. Fast forward 8 years and I can tell you we will be paying off our house this month, and wow does it feel good. We have only lived in the home for 8 years and it was new when we purchased it. Now interestingly if we had invested that money during the last eight year we would have taken a huge decrease at several times, especially recently. I can't tell you how glad we are we made the decision to invest in our home. Also pull out you loan pay back schedule and you will notice the more you pay early the bigger your realized benefit. Early on in a home loan most of your payment is going for interest. At time we would send in extra and discover we had eliminated 10 payments. I know not everyone thinks this is financially wise, but as for us we are happy campers!!!
