  1. Hardly. This is not an open and shut situation where it is clear lethal force was needed. It just is not.

We will see. A jury of Z's peers will decide that matter on more information and evidence than we have from the news and reports available to the public. I just hope no matter what that truth and justice prevail. If Z targeted T to take down with deadly force, I hope he fries. If Z made a bad choice to follow T, but ended up getting his head bashed in....and felt that his only choice was deadly force, that he goes free. Although Z will never be free. He will be tormented with "what if" the rest of his life and will have to stay in hiding for many years from the vigilantes who have a $10,000 bounty on his head. Regardless 2 families' lives are ruined.

Case is closed for me tonight. Sorry the use of words offends you....but in other words I am going to sleep.

  2. I would rather be an alive piece of crap and leave my fate to a jury.....boy, adult or eldely person.....i do not care.

I do not raise my children to beat someone's head into the concrete even if someone is unkind, rude or makes a false accusations. Defend yourself? Yes but not abuse someone because they question you. To be fair, I also teach them to leave police business to the police. That is what 911 is for.

You should be faulted for causing a conflict that resulted in the death of a child. I wouldn't call you stupid I would have called you a piece of crap that belongs in jail.

It's fun to be flippant but a child is still dead.

  3. Or if the parking space snatcher gets out of the car.....you try to confront them by chasing them down the parking lot. Is it reasonable for them to turn around and deck you then to start bashing your head into the concrete? You cry out for help but everyone just calls 911 rather then try to come to your assistance. So you

    A. Let them possibly kill you. Hey you deserve it since you followed them.

    B. hope for brain injury. Being able to talk and control your faculties are overrated. After all I do deserve it for following this fine young gentleman who is using me as a punching bag.

    C. Take the gun out of your holster and shoot the parking space snatcher. After all you are trying to defend yourself. It is me or them.

At this point the issue is not the parking space, but your life being in danger. Regardless of how you got there, it is your right to defend yourself even if it means using deadly force. Just because you carry a concealed weapon does not mean you intended to use it on the person who took your parking space. Yes, your friends, family and police would think you were stupid for following the parking space snatcher....but should you be faulted for protecting yourself after having your head bashed in?

    Case closed. Goodnight everyone.:tongue_smilie:

But if that someone follows up calling the parking space snatcher a b!tch with accosting her and then shooting her dead we can conclude that this someone is:

    -overly aggressive

    -over reacted

-caused the death of someone else for not much of a reason

  4. So when someon calls someone a b$&@$ because they take their parking space or cut them off do they truly think the other is a female dog or terrible woman? In a sane state of mind, one may ration that was unfair or inappropriate. That is why when someone says something nasty in public there is usually an apology. Usually to really label someone a liar there needs to be a pattern. Same with racism....

  5. Yes at 21 he had a scuffle with police which I acknowledge in the attempt to look at all sides of this case.

The voice heard crying for help on another 911 call (with a neighbor) was not T but Z. T's father denied that the cries for help were his sons. Z's friends and family heard the same 911 tape and acknowledge that it was Z's cries for help. Just an interesting tid bit.

Again, when you have been cut off by a driver, nearly run over or any other time that your adrenaline is at an all time high....have you said something that you regret? I know I have. Even Cops say things on reality TV that has to be bleeped out when stress is at an all time high. Heck, real housewives say terrible things that they don't mean when stress is at an all time high. One racist remark, does not make one a racist.... just like one lie does not make a liar. Z mentored a black child, has family and friends that are black....oh and I love that they bring up that a majority of the kids he calls the police on are black....well it is a predominately black neighborhood. That would make logical sense.

Anyways, you have your opinion. I have mine. We will see what the impartial grand jury decides....another reason why America is the best country on the planet :)

But there is ample evidence that he:

-initiated contact and chose not to stay in his car.

-has a history/reports of aggressive behavior including pleading and getting diversion for assaulting a police officer plus a DV report.

-Calls the cops all.the.time on 911 for non-emergent matters and

-called the person he shot an expletive on tape.

Yet we should just take his word that it was a justified shooting?

  6. My suspicion is that when the case goes before the grand jury more details will come out that will explain why this is an open and shut case. Evidence is being withheld from the public ( after the disaster of the Casey Anthiny trial).

I think the first article is a well rounded view of Z. I could not find one on T. Most of the articles on T nominate him for sainthood or chastise him as the devil himself. Unfortunately T committed his first crime with the wrong person by assaulting Z. He paid with his life which is unfortunate. Walking in a neighborhood with Skittles, carrying a concealed weapon with a permit and talking to someone you deem as suspicious are not crimes...., but beating someone's head in (no matter how justified you feel) is.

Z is not a racist nor is he white. The only racial tensions right now are coming for the ACLU which should be protecting Z too since he is also a minority. I am sick of the race card being played. At this point, I feel like we have a reverse racism issue here in America.

  7. I do not think you understand. This man did not have his gun unholstered. He carries a gun with him like some wear a cellphone. It is his right. He has a concealed weapons permit. If a police man was pursuing someone, would you say that he was pursuing someone with a gun if it was in a holster?

Here is an article that tells you the good, the bad and the ugly of Zimmerman. If you have not read it before, please read the whole article. http://www.minnpost.com/christian-science-monitor/2012/03/who-george-zimmerman-and-why-did-he-shoot-trayvon-martin

Here is also the good, the bad and the ugly of Trayvon:http://www.opposingviews.com/i/society/crime/school-report-trayvon-martin-found-jewelry-and-burglary-tool

How is it suspicious activity to be walking home to your dad's house? If Zimmerman is such a stellar neighborhood watchman, why didn't he know that Trayvon was someone who was supposed to be there? Why do NW get to determine who is allowed to walk through a neighborhood ~ and then pursue suspicious individuals with a gun? I'm beginning to dislike the very idea of NW if they are allowed so much power.
  8. This neighborhood had a crime problem. Zimmerman had actually stopped crimes in the past and was given credit in the local paper. I would guess Z's job as a neighborhood watchman was to look for suspicious activity. He approached Trayvon to see what was going on. T chose to make it physical. unfortunately Trayvon paid for this mistake with his life. Z has been a neighborhood watchman for a while. He carries a concealed weapon regularly with a permit. This is not some man who chased after T with guns blazing like the media describes.

  9. This was not a white neighborhood. It is 51% black with a high crime rate. Zimmerman had actually stopped crimes in the past without incident. Zimmerman is not white but hispanic. Last time I checked that is a minority. When the man who shot Trayvon had a broken nose and injury to the back of his head with grass stains on the back of his shirt, it seems to me he was attacked. Yes, he should have heeded the direction of the 911 dispatcher. I know Zimmerman would take it back if he could. This man is devastated not triumphant.

America is way better than any other place on this planet. At least we can worship in our churches without the church being blown up by crazy extremists. We do not circumsize women in a crude fashion against their will. We have the right to disagree with our government without fear of retribution. We defend people who we 100% disagree with them because we are free. We do not abort babies against the mother's will because they are over their quota for children.

This is not post racial America. This is Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton protesting a case that most of the evidence has been withheld. This is the liberal political machine also known as the media trying to divide our country in an election year. Do not buy into the propaganda. Google, research and get all sides of this case. Read the police record with an open mind. Take the racial component out of it and try to look at the facts with an open mind.

Yes, I was outraged when I heard the shallow reporting of the media. I took the time to research the facts in the case before I came to a conclusion.

Welcome to post racial America were a black young man is killed for walking in a white neighborhood while black and nothing is done.

This is an example of systematic racism in which the cops did not investigate because it appeared open and shut black man white neighborhood of course he was suspicious and self defense had to be used.

Not to mention it has taken a month to get into the media.

It is sad and scares me that many people think racism does not exist systematically in the us because we voted in a black president.

  10. From what I understand, Zimmerman had a broken nose and injury to the back of the head with grass stains on his back which implies that Trayvon was standing over him beating his head in. Zimmerman carried a concealed weapon regularly with a concealed weapons permit. Zimmerman is not a white man. He is Hispanic ( Half Hispanic half white). In my book that makes him hispanic....just like Obama is half white and half black. I do not consider him white. Keep in mind I am white and my husband is Hispanic. Our kids are Hispanic.

Zimmerman did make a racial slur...but anyone under the influence of stress and adrenaline I challenge you to see if you would say something "his or her mother would not be proud of". Zimmerman in the past stopped home invasions and other crimes in his neighborhood. The neighborhood is 51% black. This neighborhood dealt with lots of crime.

I 100% believe that Zimmerman should have followed the directions of the 911 operator. He did follow the protocal of the neighborhood watch. Zimmerman approached Trayvon to ask him what he was doing in the neighborhood. Trayvon responded with physical violence ( enough force to break his nose and cause injury to the back of his head). Zimmerman felt that Trayvon could kill him. He was not aware that he was unarmed. Zimmerman shot Trayvon with Trayvon standing over him. Zimmerman is devastated and unable to sleep.

Trayvon was not a saint. He was suspended for marijuana possession and suspected to be a small time dealer( based on some Facebook posts from friends). He is also suspected to have punched a bus driver.

All this to say, this is a horrible tragedy. Both families are changed forever.in my opinion, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson need to go home. This is not a racial issue. Just because someone lies one time, does not make him a liar. Just because someone says one racial remark, does not make him a racist. Zimmerman has black family members and friends who have stood up for him. There is evidence that the police will not disclose which they believe makes this an " open and shut case".

All of the information above you will not hear on a broadcast because the media has a liberal agenda. Ok, I said it. I feel better. Mr. Zimmerman made some bad decisions and so did Trayvon. Unfortunately Trayvon paid with his life. Mr. Zimmerman has the right under the second amendment to bear arms. He did have a permit for a concealed weapon which does not make him a monster like the media wants to portray.

  11. Ok, today I started using the "Talking Ben" app where he parrots the reader to have Ben review with my daughter some of our lessons for OPGTR. She loved it. This might work for a 2 to 4 year old.

Also, I must say I :001_wub:the app called "The ABC's of God". Handwriting practice, differentiating letters on upper and lower case, finding letters within a text, reading Bible verses with your kiddo, learning what "God is.." with a word for every letter of the alphabet....I LOVE it! I just had to share.

Please share your favorite apps for toddlers and preschoolers and any creative use of apps!!!:bigear:

  12. I bought OPGTR because it does "double duty" in my house. I bought the complete set used on the WTM sell page for $30. I suggest the complete set for the 4 year old to start from the beginning. I skip around for my 6 year old since he went through tycr 100 easy lessons and A beka phonics. OPGTR will have your child at a 4th grade reading level.

I bought the Miquon program because I can teach both children at the same time. ( I after school my 6 year old) I also bought a large set of cuisenaire rods. I am using MEP as a supplement for Miquon.

My 4 year old will be part of CC in the fall (mainly to develop classroom schools with mom in the room :) )

I will add to the program as we progress. I want to guard against committing to too many programs. Oh, and read a ton of Great books and have ds read real books rather than readers.

You also need to choose a handwriting program. You can do Cursive First or A beka cursive. If you want to teach italics then use Getty Dubay or beautiful handwriting for kids. If you want a good program for manuscript, I suggest HWOT.

  13. I taught my son to read pretty well with TYCR 100 easy lessons. He is doing a beka phonics this year for kindergarten in a Classical Christian school. He is in the highest reading group and reading pretty fluently.

All that to say, I bought OPGTR for my daughter and to help my son to go from a 2nd grade reading level to 4th grade level. I am on lesson 6 with my 3.5 year old and lesson 77 with my 6 year old ds (skipping around to fill in the holes).

OPGTR is much more gentle and systematic than TYCR....which I like

  14. I really like this poem. When my son comes home, I am going to dramatically read this poem, the one about "One thing at a time" (suggested above), Persevere and It Can be done....and let him choose. I will post a video for the group!

This is cite for a boy, and short enough for a little guy:

    THE WORM

    Ralph Bergengren

When the earth is turned in spring

The worms are fat as anything.

And birds come flying all around

To eat the worms right off the ground.

They like worms just as much as I

Like bread and milk and apple pie.

And once, when I was very young,

I put a worm right on my tongue.

    I didn't like the taste a bit,

And so I didn't swallow it.

But oh, it makes my Mother squirm

Because she thinks I ate that worm!
