  1. I have recently experimented  with dyeing old tops that I like the fit but they have either faded or have some light staining. Rit dye has products for 100% cotton and for blended fabrics. You can combine dye colors if you want to get fancy, but I have stuck to the basic colors so far. I use the stovetop method. There are lots of YouTube videos on how to do this.

Sorry I don’t have any great suggestions on buying new, inexpensive tops. I am also lamenting the fact that my newly gained pandemic weight makes most of my cute tops too tight 😕. I too just keep wearing the same few things that fit. I would rather wear the same thing over and over but be comfy, than wear something different but too tight. I hate tight clothing!  It makes me grumpy and nobody needs more grumpy in the world lol.

  2. I was just at a new neurologist Monday discussing migraines. I have seen a few different neurologists through the years and agree with Hyacinth, they always want to document how often they occur (number of days per month), and the duration of headaches (30 minutes or 3 days). They ask what medication I have taken and how effective it was and want a description of my symptoms.

There is no reason to feel nervous about unexpected questions. Tell her to take her time answering, and just to give the response that best reflects her symptoms. Sometimes it is difficult to describe or sounds awkward to our ears, but they have heard all these things before and have a very good understanding of the many kinds of headaches and their various symptoms. The questions are because they want to offer the best medical treatment to fit her specific needs, not because she is on trial😉

I do recommend jotting down a few notes of the things she wants to tell the doctor.  I always do this now because I cannot tell you how many times I forgot a detail I wanted to mention!

Wishing her the best and praying she gets the relief she needs.

I am editing to add, I have not experienced a lot of odd questions myself through the years, but I provide A LOT of detail about what I am experiencing. (Like every detail I can think recall) Maybe they will ask more questions if you don’t provide as much detail to your  headache experience and they have to play detective to figure it out???

  3. I am growing a mustache😩

Why, oh why is this happening?  My older sis and mother do not have them. We are not hairy people. It wasn’t there 6 months ago, but there is no denying it any longer.  It is super light blonde  and fine, and strangely heavier on the left side. What could be causing this?  Not sure if I should see a gynecologist, a dermatologist, a general practice dr, or something else.  I am totally freaked out here. Please advise.

(P.S.  I am 43 and still have a monthly cycle if that makes a difference)

  4. We read several years ago about a man (colonial period I think) who was executed and, “He dared to think” was written on his grave. Can anyone name the person and the circumstances of his death?
Google isn’t being helpful. I thought if anyone would know, it would be the Hive. Thanks.

  5. I was so intrigued by the idea of a cat eating 20-30 a day, I forgot to respond to the op. Our cat loves robbing the freeze-dried raw treats I mix in with the dog food. Our local pet store carries Instinct brand "rawboost mixers". Packaging says, "top your kibble with raw." They come in beef, chicken, turkey and lamb. My cat loves lamb. I am not sure if they sell a variety for cats or not, but the dog variety does not seem to have any ill effect on our kitty and since they are small freeze-dried pieces there isn't the smell or "ick factor" you may experience when serving fresh.

  6. Just remember that cats are carnivores -- obligate carnivores, as in, they can't be healthy without meat, and really have no natural eating of plant materials. But, cats do NOT just eat the flesh of animals. They eat the whole thing, innards, skin, bones . . .

Veterinary nutritionists generally hold up mice as the ideal cat food. I think they need to eat 20-30 a day or something insane like that.

So, anyway, that's to say that steak/chicken breast/etc isn't going to a complete food for cats. So, if you're giving him more than a little "raw" diet, be sure it is nutritionally balanced for cats.

    Blech.

    LOL

20-30 a day???!!! I cannot imagine how a cat could consume that many. Of course, my mighty hunter won't eat any. He prefers to leave them on the front porch for me to admire when he is done playing with them ðŸ˜. Then he happily eats his canned kitty food.

  7. Love this thread....except now I have this song stuck in my head...

When the boys you used to hate, you date

    I guess you must investigate

    The facts of life

    The facts of life

    If the world never seems

To be living up up to your dreams...

And I can't remember the rest of the lyrics.

Off to google before it drives me crazy....

  8. I love, love, love....my rice socks. Yes, it is just a sock filled with rice and tied in a knot but when I have a headache (and I have a lot) a hot rice sock is heavenly. I have an old brown sock I have used for years. My ds14 bought a lovely new pair of soft extra-tall socks and filled them with different weights/lengths of rice for Christmas. My new rice socks are a priceless treasure.

  9. I have been told to use the kombu when cooking, but I've never found it to make a difference. That said, no one in my house suffers from gas after eating beans, and we eat a LOT of beans. So, I tried it a couple of times and then didn't bother. I doubt I would be serving beans to anyone who had part of a colon missing though. Doesn't seem worth it.

Have you considered freezing cooked beans in amounts that work for you. That is what I do. I cook a whole pound but then freeze it in 2 or 1 cup batches. Then I toss it into whatever I am making. It's very easy. I also make hummus and refried beans and freeze it in muffin tins. Then I pop out the frozen hummus and put it in a bag and just pull out what we need

Well that was a first lol. I went to "like" this post and realized I had already "liked" it...in 2015. Apparently I agreed with this post then and I still agree with it today. 😀

  10. Another weird consideration with the Berkey is the size (specifically the height of the canister). Our Berkey cannot sit on our kitchen counters because there isn't a place without an upper cabinet and it is too tall to fit under the upper cabinet. We have a bench that we put it on which makes it a lovely height for pouring water into the top, but you have to bend or squat down to fill your glass, pot etc. To fill the Berkey, I carry a pitcher of water at a time from my sink. It is such a small thing, but if we ever build a home or remodel a kitchen, I will plan a more convenient height for my Berkey and ensure a pot-filler faucet or spray wand is within reach. Such a first-world problem, I know.

  11. We have the Imperial which holds 3.25 gallons. While it sounds kind of crazy, even to myself, I would buy the Crown which holds 6 gallons if I had it to do over, even though we are only a family of three. Maybe it is my imagination, but it seems the fluoride filters may slow the filtration process down and we empty our 3.25 gallons every day and I have to refill before the day is over. My ds and dh are for some weird reason incapable of refilling the Berkey when they see that they have emptied it with their water bottles and all too often I come to get a drink or prepare dinner and the Berkey is near empty and it takes time to refill. I have never actually timed how long it takes to refill. I am usually in a hurry emptying it as it refills😉

  12. I used the Konmari method. It was wonderful. My closet has never looked so wonderful. That was this past summer.....

    ......🙄Well...

🤔Hmmm. How shall I say this?

    😔....😟...😩

I guess ultimately I was not successful and while there was temporary improvement, I am really deep down a mess.

Guess, I have no real advice except be kind to yourself. Best of luck at your new endeavor 🙂

  13. I buy bread bags from paulasbread.com. They are much less expensive then ziplock. You could potentially reuse the bags and make them last a VERY long time. (These bags are also nice for giving loaves to friends). The bags are much longer than the loaf, so I just give the end a twist and usually set it down on the twist. I suppose if you wanted to be fancy, you could use a little wire twist😉

  14. I love, love, love my Berkey (with fluoride filters). We have had ours several years and my only regret is not getting a larger size. (We are a family of 3 but because I use it for cooking water not just drinking, we use much more than I anticipated.)

  15. No pink?! Clearly Walmart is unaware of how much Hive discussion it takes for such important decisions to be approved. Alas, the black will be warm and functional. All is not lost though. We southerners learned a new name for a beanie and that a toboggan is not just a sled. You may not have acquired the lovely pink beanie, but you have assisted us in our quest for knowledge by inadvertently teaching us new things. I thank you and wish you well with your new black beanie.

  16. I had to look up what on earth a "beanie" was. We call them toques in the Great White North.

To me, a beanie is a colourful peakless cap with a little helicopter on top. ;)

I am glad OP called it a beanie because I have never heard of toques lol. (I am from the freezing cold south 😉).

A pink beanie sounds warm, fun, and a perfect match for the jacket ☺ï¸
