Holy Drained Bank Account, Batman!
Mercy_Me replied to Mercy_Me's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Oh, I know! I alwayssss search coupon codes before I buy anything online. I still remember the first time I did it and saved 20 bucks off of my Children's Place order. I was so thrilled! And then I got angry thinking about all of the money I had thrown away by not doing that. LOL! That is AWESOME that you saved that much on the computer! -
Holy Drained Bank Account, Batman!

Oh how I wish we had a Savers here in the Southeast! My BF frequents hers in California and LOVES it!! -
Hi everyone. :) I have 4 kiddos ranging in ages from 14 down to 3. It's no secret that clothing them (even when I am thrifty) is, well......expensive. My youngest was in need of fall/winter clothes, so I hit several places online to see where I could do better. Both places were having great sales, so I built my shopping cart at both to compare. My average was around 145 and that included 4-5 pants, 4-5 shirts, maybe a hoodie or sweater, a pair of shoes, possibly. Other than needing a heavy jacket and a nice Christmas outfit, that would probably get him through the winter and into spring, so I think it is somewhat of a bargain. Have I let the cuteness go to my head?? What do you guys think of that price? (for one child)

Bad headache does not = migraine
Mercy_Me replied to Snowfall's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I have never had migranes, but I do get your point. I have OCD. Diagnosed and am being treated. People around me are CONSTANTLY saying things like.."Oh, I'm so OCD today, everything needs to be just so.....or, "I'm totally OCD over my towels"...or, or, or......I just want to stand up and SCREAM, you are NOT OCD, and be THANKFUL you are not! It isn't cute, quirky or endearing like all of those **** movies make it seem. It is debilitating, destructive, depressing and MANY MANY other things. I WISH all I cared about were clean straight towels. -
Quick question about combining history......

Thank you! I am new to this and learning as I go. I just don't want them to suffer because of my lack of confidence. -

Quick question about combining history......

Also, have any of you used A Little History Of The World through until the end? Good results? -
Hi guys! I am homeschooling my 8 year old and beginning next week, my 10 year old. I have purchased separate math, reading, writing and spelling, but I would love to combine history. We are using Gombrich's A Little History of the World as a spine and I supplement with books, activities, DVDs, etc. What I would like to do is continue the way we are going with the 10 year old as well, and simply tailor her activities to her fifth grade level. I like the idea of bringing her back to the beginning and going forth in chronological order, but with her already being in fifth grade, would I be doing her a disservice? Thanks in advance!! :001_smile:

OMG! The whining around here this morning!

LOL. I see I am not the only one battling the "I don't want tos"! -
Our Vision Our vision is that every child lives in a world where they feel safe, loved and celebrated. Our Mission The Challenge Day mission is to provide youth and their communities with experiential programs that demonstrate the possibility of love and connection through the celebration of diversity, truth, and full expression. The survey is more than likely just for the purposes of demographics. If anything, they could simply choose not to answer. I certainly CAN see why it would make some parents cringe, but the best thing to do is not make a big deal about it and truly try to gain something from the experience. Sounds like a fantastic program with VERY respectable goals.

Annoying kid/"friend"-how to break it off??
Mercy_Me replied to Jeanne in MN's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Hi. I know this must be a tough situation, because this has MAJOR "hurt feelings" potential. I think maybe what I would do in your situation is give him another chance, but deal with his behavior issues directly. "I'm sorry you think our house is messy, I can call your mom to get you now if it bothers you." Put the ball in his court and give him a chance to correct his (obnoxious) behavior. If he continues, I don't think I would allow him over anymore. He is simply being rude. But do give him a chance to correct himself, if you can. :001_smile: -
LOL! Yes, I have been trying to keep up with those; it can get a little confusing. :001_smile: I have already seen by lurking that the curriculum board is going to be invaluable. I don't oppose religion being a topic in a book, of course not, but when it is the central theme of a book, and proselytizing that theme, it's not going to serve our needs. I would prefer to know that BEFORE I spend money out of an already tight budget!

Hi everyone! I have been lurking for a little while now and I thought it was time to introduce myself. I have 4 children, ages 14g, 10g, 8g and 3b. This is our first year homeschooling. I brought my 8 year old home from public school at the beginning of the current school year and in a week or so I will be pulling my 10 year old out. She is a social butterfly, so I know this will be an adjustment for her, but this is, by far, the best choice. My 14 year old will remain in public school, with fun activities at home to supplement her learning; the 3 year old will be learning by osmosis. :) I am not religious, so thus far, I am not exactly popular in my bible belt homeschooling community. :P I am in desperate need of encouragement, and above all, friendship. I know I will have tons of questions, and having a place where I can come to ask them is wonderful. I look forward to getting to know you guys! :)
